I would prefer to watch a fight between Toney and bhop after which they both retire. The hopkins vs Dawson fight if it happens wont take place until about midway 2010.
I consider Dawson to be an improved version of Jerman Taylor and I think at this point in time he will outwork Bhop.
Dawson by decision.
It won't happen. Hop will outprice himself and demand all of the split. I wish Bernard would retire so the winner of Glen vs Dawson would become the world (Ring) champion at 175. I would love to see Road Warrior win.
Just saw him say it in an interview with kenny on espn. Great news imo, looking forward to that one :alucard:
finally. He's realized he can't make all the demands. If he were to beat Dawson, he should go fight Adamek or even challenge one of the weaker heavyweight champs and retire
I can hear posters say that Dawson beats Hopkins, but in almost every post they don't give a detailed explanation why. Dawson does not have the work rate of Calzaghe and he even lacks the aggressiveness of the version of Taylor that Hopkins fought. Combine this with Chad's lack of power and it would be a long night for him.
so Hopkins is actually going to fight a light heavyweight? yeah right
if trinidad was still a welterweight when he fought hopkins isn't hopkins still a middleweight when he fights at light heavy? can you have it both ways in haterville?
Dawson can fight on the inside, it's not his forte, but if he needs to he can. His offense is superb, but sometimes his jab is inconsistent. Dawson's weaknesses is his footwork, defense, and stamina, but those are weaknesses that Dawson can easily improve on.
Yeah. I wasn't implying that he can't fight on the inside at all. I just meant that the reason he will have problems with Glen Johnson and Bernard Hopkins (if the fight happens) is because that is those other guys' territory and they are better at it. And a poster earlier in the thread said that Dawson needs to use his attributes which are his reach advantage and his jab. He does have a decent uppercut. But he often times sacrifices defense for it and it causes him to get tagged.
im actually really surprised by b-hops decision.
if he fights dawson (who i fancy to come through the fight johnson realtively easily) then i think he will lose. maybe b-hop looks at him and thinks dawson is still a little green, hes a southpaw (and b-hopnormally does well against them) and he still has flaws that b-hop can do exploit.
but ultimately i think dawson is the sort of large, athletic, quick fighter that hopkins simply won't do well against (i.e. RJJ, taylor). i see hopkins giving him a few problems but dawson will pull out the decision followed by crys of robbery from bernard and his small army of followers.
I've got no problem with people saying they think that Dawson can beat Hopkins. It's just these people that say stupid things like Hopkins would get destroyed by Dawson, and that's why he doesn't want to fight him. It's like they imply that Hopkins is ducking Dawson when it's not a case of Hopkins being afraid of him. He is just exploring his options. And with Adamek maybe moving up to Heavyweight, a fight with the winner of the rematch between Johnson and Dawson seems more realistic for Bernard.
This is why I never thought Dawson was this total package that people make him out to be. I think Hopkins would dominate Chad Dawson contrary to proper belief. He just wants to get paid decently for it so it's not a waste of his time.

Hopkins said that he ''Didn't want to ruin the fabric of of boxing'' or some crap because he beat Pavlik and he feels he'd do the same to Dawson which quite frankly, is laughable.
What are you going to say once Hopkins fights him and beats him? People are looking too far ahead. Hell, I've got my doubts about Dawson being able to get past Johnson.
I think that Dawson will win both fights so long as he doesn't try to stand in there with them. Dawson can't fight on the inside and I don't understand why he was so insistent on doing so against Tarver and Johnson. I think that if he moves and boxes against Johnson, he won't have such a difficult time. Hopkins/Dawson won't be largely entertaining, but I think it'll be good for the more avid fans, not for the casual boxing fans.

I don't know what to think with the guy anymore with this. I like Hops but he said he wouldn't fight again unless it was by February of this year. Now he's talking about fighting on his 45th Birthday next year, what's going on in his head?
You had to be generous to go along with his whole "I don't want to ruin another young career" thing before.
I kinda was, but why did he face Kelly and not pursue Dawson at all? Ok tolerable and understandable a bit.
But why then make out like it's not cool in his books to face the next best guy in his own division?
He's had his chances to make a fight with Dawson, even over the last couple of months? It makes no sense.
Personally I think he was holding out for easier fights, with a better risk ratio. Froch being one whom oh, has just recently become busy for a year. So that's ones gone. Adamek not signing a fight and recently hinting on HW even so that ones less likely.
So all it seems like Nard is doing, is pushing further down his list of preferable opponents, and Dawson was further down there not because of his original excuses, but because he really does realise he has a good chance of losing because he's one of the least manipulable in the ring.
