to not fight these guys if he was a chicken sissy.
Ruelas - Who is he? I grabbed 10 people and asked who he is and nobody could answer.
Whitaker - already had a loss and a draw so not worth getting in the ring with.
Quartey - not enough PPVs to make it worthy.
Trinidad - Puerto Rico isn't a big enough island to worry about their fighters and doesn't work with Don King fighters.
Mosley - Pomona is East LAs bitch and Mosley doesn't have a big enough fan base, therefore, it isn't necessary to prove whos the best.
Gatti - Hes got four losses.
Vargas - His hairstyle is lame and he didn't even make the Olympic team.
Sturm - Hes a Euro and too green.
Hopkins - He beat Trinidad only because the blueprint was already laid out to beat him, Bernard needs to step up his PPV numbers.
Granted, I'm not the biggest DLH fan, but as an ambassador of the sport, he more often than not made the big fights that needed to be made.
Lets thank our lucky stars he had enough balls to take on some of the best challenges presented to him without making lame excuses, win, lose or draw.
The way I see it ; there isn't anything wrong with a "cherrypick" fight here or there.
Everybody has done it from time to time.
But as of late ; as within the last few years ; nobody's done that more than Floyd.
Christ, he's taken it to a whole new level with guys like Gatti, Mitchell, Bruseles, Baldomir, and Judah.
All 3 of em cherrypick...I aint denying it
But Bernard and Floyd do it 10 times more and get away with that shit.
I actually think Oscar DID duck a Pernell rematch. Just like Pac is ducking a 3rd fight with JMM. The risk of losing was too great. I don't deny it one bit bro. But he fought him at least. What really good fighters did Floyd face above 135 that weren't washed up?? Why is it ok for Hopkins to cherry pick who he wants to fight due to his age??
I know a Prime Pernell would beat Oscar even when Oscar was at his best around 99.
Sturm, Molina, Chavez, and Ruelas aint BIG fights...he gave away the Trinidad fight...
Oscar hadn't won a meaningful fight since 2002...
They were pretty big at the time they were made. You're right the late DLH sucked but from 1995 to 2002 he was a beast. Well he wasn't motivated enough.
You want to talk about him being a Cherry Picker when you have to Way Bigger ones in your Sig & AV. Hopkins & Floyd.

De La Hoya did some cherry picking but he did fight the names people wanted to see him fight against. He never gave Pernell a rematch though.
He did lose the majority of his big fights tho...

The fights with Chavez were big fights, whether you like it or not.
Well that's not entirely true. Ike, Chavez, Whitaker, John John Molina, Ruelas, Vargas, Sturm, Tito (robed) Mosley II (robed) Those are DLH greatest wins.

reading the first part of your post, i swear i heard floyd talking
Yea, but we all know Floyd doesn't make excuses.
Thats why for Floyds entire career, fans have been killing eachother in droves just to get a ticket to see him massacre someone.

oscar went out like a bitch...running on a track with pac and not saying a word to freddie roach...talking about people like they mean nothing...beating up 2 pound forbes...knowing he was twice as small just to get props for beating someone up...crying about how floyd didn't win the fight simply cause he was more active...firing certain trainers and people because they associate with others...letting hollywood turn his ass...the dude just didn't have a good end of career run...but regardless...he will be a hall of famer and he will go down as one of the greatest...
Lovin the hate
Makes success all the more sweeter once Floyd rips JMM and Pac to shreds
Hate?
This about appreciating the face of the sport who actually took the tough fights and didn't make excuses for them not to happen.
This is about showing what a megastar does with his status whether he wins or loses because he understands that there are fights that the fans want to see.
ODH is a failure in the ring..
A cross dressing queer..who got busted up by Forbes.
Who cares about what he did in the ring, he is Money De La Hoya, how is he a failure?
Mike Tyson.
But thats neither here nor there...In the ring..he was a failure.
Oscar is a cross dressing failure.
I didn't realize Tyson fought the majority of his fights in the DLH era. and are you sure Tyson made more money?
So again, how is a man who made hundreds of millions of dollars a failure since you all care about how much money another man makes?
