Promoters Dan Goosen and Dennis Rappaport have conducted preliminary talks regarding a heavyweight clash between rising contender Chris Arreola and former WBC champion Oleg Maskaev, ********* has learned. The two veteran promoters along with Maskaev manager Fred Kesch were seen discussing the fight at the press conference to announce the super middleweight tournament on Monday afternoon at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Goosen, the promoter of Arreola, was in attendance to represent Andre Ward who couldn’t make it due to the flu. Neither Rappaport or Kesch would either confirm or deny that negotiations had begun for the Arreola clash, only opting to say that Arreola was one of a few potential options being explored. It should be an easy fight to make considering both heavyweight champions Vitali Klitschko and Wladimir Klitschko are likely to be tied up with defenses in the fall against David Haye and Alexander Povetkin, respectively. Arreola (27-0, 24 KOs) is coming off an impressive knockout of Jameel McCline in April. Maskaev (36-6, 27 KOs), who had his hopes dashed of securing a title fight against Vitali Klitschko last month when arbitrator ruled against him, has won two fights since losing his belt to Samuel Peter in March of 2008.
This could be a very entartaining fight and it should happen
Maskaev is like a spent shell casing.
He's shot.
He must like getting lit up by big punchers.
And the weird thing is, he boxes pretty well, then always seems to get hit by someting really wild.
Yep. The Nipple's people picked yet another easy fight. At this rate he will be ready for The Rock in about 3 years.
it should an exctiting fight tho, both guys dont have much of a chin, should be great
arreola has a solid chin.travis walker is one of the hardest hitting heavyweights with power in both hands.he just offers nothing else.that was the only time arreola was down I believe.no shame in taking a knee to him.maskaev is alot better than people think.he hits very hard & has a great power left hook, something chris better be aware of or it could be a tough night.when he lost to peter, peter was at his best.that's the last time peter was in shape & motivated.arreola should win but maskaev is always in shape but what's he really got left? We will see.mccline was in for a paycheck & was in terrible shape(worst I ever seem him).maskaev will be ready & never should be underestimated.by far his toughest test.the maskaev/peter fight was a good scrap until peter caught him.I look forward to this fight.whoever wins is in line for vitali so oleg has a chance to earn his title shot.he will be ready.arreola has alot to lose but also a huge momentum builder if he wins.
