Even with his loss to Calzaghe if he wins this tournament he can end up with wins over Taylor, Abraham, Froch, Ward, or Dirrell. And even after its over he can get wins over Pavlik, Bute, Green, Jacobs. The pool is so deep right his resume @SMW will surpass Calzaghe who refused a rematch after their close fight.
If Kessler wins the tourney without being beaten, he'll have a damn good resume but surely that would only make Calzaghe's convincing win over him in his prime all the more impressive.
This...if Kessler flames out badly, it could also hurt Calzaghe for some. Kessler is Cal's best win.

On Kessler's resumée you forgot Manny Siaca and Eric Lucas. Both SMW champions.
Yeah well I also left out a few from Joe's resume aswell, just lined up the guys that's worth to mention in my opinion. ;)
Stay on topic guys, the thread is not about WHAT Kessler achieved so far, but IF he achieve it.. the way I see it, he will surpass Calzaghe by an inch - IF he pulls this off :
Joe Calzaghe - Notable fights :
Chris Eubank
Jeff Lacy
Sakio Bika
Mikkel Kessler
Bernard Hopkins
Roy Jones Jr.
Mikkel Kessler - Notable fights :
Anthony Mundine
Markus Beyer
Librado Andrade
Joe Calzaghe (Loss)
Arthur Abraham
Carl Froch
Andre Ward
Jermain Taylor
Andre Dirrell
If he kick Bute and Bika's ass in the meantime, there's nothing left for him to prove in SMW tbh. :)

Hopkins is Joe's best win but that doesn't count when you're talking SMW. At SMW Joe's best win is probably Eubank since Kessler fought with a handinjury.
calzaghe was 35, while kessler was 28.
Tyson's prime was early twenties. Calzaghe's was probably early thirties. Not everybody peaks at 28.
I'll admit that Joe might have peaked at 28, but we don't really know since he wasn't fighting the best available opposition back then.
It's rediculous that Calzaggie fan boys are saying Joe was past his prime and Kessler was in it. Kessler is just recently stepping up the competition. Who knows maybe a few years from now he will be at his best...
No, Kessler-Calzaghe was huge because Kessler had cleaned out about half the top ten. He stepped up a while ago.
so? he's a career smw in reality. guaranteed if hopkins didn't come back and win against tarver, wright and pavlik and light heavyweight his fans wouldn't be delusional enough to compare him to hagler after losing to taylor twice.

All I am saying is that when you are comparing Joe's SMW resume to that of another fighter you cannot include Roy and BHop in it.
calzaghe was 35, while kessler was 28.
So? Was Hopkins as good at 25 as he was at 35? NO.
Physical prime doesn't necessarily mean fighting prime.
With the better competition he's fighting he will be getting better experience, fighting full time instead of being a mechanic on the side... tons of factors.

Just remember that Joe's wins over BHop and Roy were not at SMW.

how? idiot.
calzaghe - hopkins, kessler, jones, eubank, lacy, reid, mitchell, brewer
kessler if he wins - abraham, froch, taylor, ward, dirrell, andrade
calzaghe has unified the division and been champion for 10 years +, kessler can get close and solidify himself as the second best ever by winning this tourney but not the best.

Guys ofcourse Kessler can, anybody that wins this tourney, undefeated, will have a better resume at 168 than Calz.

Interesting debate.
If Kessler goes through this tournament undefeated then goes onto beat Bute, it would be hard to say he didnt have a more impressive resume than Calzaghe.(providing he doesnt pick up a L before he retires.)
Then again he lost to Calzaghe head to head when he was in his prime.
If Kessler does go through all these names undefeated i would say he has the best resume of any 168 fighter but not the best fighter at 168.
Thats a pretty good way of putting it.
