Finally some comments out of Denmark. Unfortunately not exactly good news although it's not a lot that's being said:
According to danish newsagency ritzau Mikkel Kessler's promotor Mogens Palle says:
"I'm surprised that an agreement evidently has been made behind my back. Other than that I have no comments, since everything is handled by lawyers now."
The latter part of the statement refers to the pending lawsuit between Mogens Palle and Mikkel Kessler regarding the lenght of their contract.
Ortiz - GBP - Top Rank (Top Rank gets a guaranteed percentage of Ortiz future earnings)
equals
Kessler - Sauerland - Team Palle
...besides Sauerland and Team Palle can get along with each other which is likely the key to get Kessler in this tournament.
That surprises me quite a lot. Sauerland and Palle usually hate each others guts. Palle even has a lawsuit pending regarding danish tv-money from the Kessler-Beyer fight.
Ah well... but money talks so .......

No, the fighters are not putting up their belts in their participation of the tourney. http://www.boxingscene.com/forums/images/faces/nono.gif
Didn't the story say that the tournament would have priority over mandatories so that the fighters involved could make mandatories only if it could fit into the schedule?
If this holds the belts would still be on the line untill stripped by WBA or WBC (unlikely I would think).
is their belts going to be on the line???????????

hopefully kessler makes a run for it and gets one of the big three to promote him. you get him out of sweden(?) and the bobfather or the wire hair wonder or gbp could tie up palle for years and make him make a deal.
Not Sweden :grr: Denmark!! :lol1:
This snag with Palle and Kessler should be discussed only on its financial aspect.
The court should free Kessler to fight and deal on regular terms and then the share of the purse contractually destined to the promoter should be locked up to guarantee legal compensation.
The more it lasts, the more it benefits Palle.
The legal system in Denmark is unbelieveably slow. A quicker way would be an out-of-court settlement.
this is just sour grapes from palle, from what i can gather kess is in the tournament and hopefully it will stay that way. hes one of my fave fighters and imo the best SMW right now, if he was to drop out of the tourney i think the competiton would lose something special.
although i would have preferred kess to have signed with GBP, i think they would have been more willing to match him up against the best. i think someone from sauerland must have made a deal with palles company behind palles back.
I agree in the promotional part here. There's likely an agreement with Sauerland who's looking to take over Kessler's rights. Now the 69 year old Wilfried Sauerland has to armwrestle 73 year old Mogens Palle. A shame this won't be in the ring as these two old farts hates each others guts. :lol1:
I'm thinking if he falls through.. They can try again to get either Pavlik (which i'm sure top rank would reject) or try with Bute once more..
If they strike out how about BHOP? jk.. he wouldn't do it either but i'm thinking Bute would.. too much money n the table with this tournament thing.. plus being thrust in the limelight.. these fighters have a shot at being the who's who of boxing..
kessler is going to wipe the floor with them all!
That is not going to happen. I am not a huge Kessler fan but with out him, the tourney would not be the same.
But this is what it was posed to look like:
If everything goes as expected, the following fights are being discussed for this tournament.
Arthur Abraham vs. Jermain Taylor in October in Germany
Carl Froch vs. Andre Dirrell in October in the UK.
Mikkel Kessler vs. Andre Ward in November.
Arthur Abraham vs. Andre Dirrell in America in January 2010
Mikkel Kessler vs. Carl Froch in Europe in March 2010
Andre Ward vs. Jermain Taylor in America in April/May 2010
Andre Dirrell vs. Andre Ward in America in September 2010
Arthur Abraham vs. Carl Froch in November 2010, with Mikkel Kessler vs. Jermain Taylor taking place around the same time.
After those bouts takes place and the points are tallied up, there will be semi-finals and a final tournament bout.
As far as Kessler’s legal dispute with Mogens Palle, I’ve heard that some form of an agreement was reached with Palle to allow Kessler to participate. I’ve been told that Palle will not be part of the promotion, but if everything comes together as expected - Dan Goossen, Gary Shaw, Lou DiBella, Sauerland Event and Mick Hennessey will be involved.
Some other points of interest.
1. Abraham would vacate his title and move up to 168.
2. Kelly Pavlik would be left without any significant opponents at 160 or 168. The only options I would see for him is the winner of Lucian Bute vs. Librado Andrade or Paul Williams.
3. You would have to applaud the promoters involved if everything is able to get worked out. The tournament would be a global event with some of the biggest names in America, Germany, UK and Denmark.

i agree man, good post.
kess has ended up wasting some of his best years because of this dispute.
i disagree that palle is benefitting from kess's recent inactivity but he is not losing out as much as kess is.

Remember when Palle wanted to move the Calzaghe fight to put it on his anniversary or some shit? What an ass. Someone needs to off this guy.
OK not that bad, but he needs to go away.
I noticed your take on Kessler-Ward in another thread. Although Kessler's always in great shape there is the inactivity factor to be taken into account. Kessler has fought 3 professional rounds in the last year and a half once the tournament starts. He might enter the tourney as a favourite and rightly so, but I would think that if he is to be upset the first fight might be the best chance to do it.
I think so too, especially if it's Ward who I don't think he should fight first. Then again, there is NO gimme in this tourney. I'd say it's just as likely we'll see a more ferocious Kessler in his return, given what he's gone through lately.
I'm glad to hear Kessler is at least trying to be a part of this tourney, whether Palle allows it or not. And although he's been overrated by some, I'd put my money on him winning it all.

Wasnt he in hospital last year with some heart problems or something, lets hope he drops dead soon
A bit harsh to wish death upon somebody, but Palle indeed has a heartcondition. He really should retire and look after his grandkid.
