He wasnt trying to test himself those in those fights which has a lot to do with him losing those fights. I think he underestimated all 3 of them and punched himself out against two of them. Fights that were supposed to test him were Chris Byrd 1 which was his first step up against world class opposition, he won every round. Jameel McCline his first step up against another big man with skills, he won damn near every round. Sam Peter to see how he reacted against a big puncher after the KO losses, he won almost every round. Sultan Ibragimov his first chance at unifying the titles and he won almost every round. Call him boring but to say the three losses were his biggest tests is ridiculous.
Entertainers...?
A boxing match is two things: a sports event and an entertaining event. We all know, that Wlad excels in one and fails at the other.
Despite that, he attracts huge crowd (60,000 in the arena, 11 million on screen in Germany alone, that's HUGE for a 80 million country). And to give the spectators a better show, they surround the main event with some HOOBA BOOBA stuff. I think it's like "sorry dudes, boring fight, but we give you a side dish to the bland main course".
And I am thankful, that the K' brothers realized that boring boxing kills the interest in the sports, and at least put up a good show.
Can you explain what you are talking about? A stiff arm is thrown from the shoulder to a persons face to keep them away from you. As I understand it thats the whole concept of throwing a jab whats the illegal part?
Holding your lead hand out with your palm in someones face is illegal in boxing. Sort of like putting you palm on your little brothers forehead to keep him out of punching range. Wlad does this very often and is not warned or penalized for it. the jab is not a sitff arm sir.A jab is a quick punch fired by your lead hand and pulled back quickly to its originating place of rest
If you watch the vid of the last fight you will see that Wlad often holds his jab extended and uses it to hold back his opponent from advancing towards him...Lefty
I will not listen to you say that Wlad is dirty. He just might be the cleanest fighting HW champion in history and I'm sure you know it when you think about it.
Lewis-holding and hitting
Holy-Every trick in the book. Butts, elbows etc.
Tyson-Biting, wrestling
And so on...............
Maybe the announcers called for it on yank TV. I don't know since I saw it in my own language. But as far as I can tell from the posting on this forum and from boxingscenes own reporters (most notably Jake Donovan) american commentating on Wlad or Vitali for that matter is extremely negative. I don't care who you are but for sure it will help create the viewers opinion wheter you want it or not.
One of the prime examples of this is the Holy-Valuev fight. Nearly everyone who watched on streams or yank tv had Holyfield winning lopsided while nearly all the reporters ringside thought the fight was very close and most probably had Valuev winning. I had Holy winning too. But only by a point. I watched it in german but I don't listen to the commentator simply because the language is slightly tough for me to comprehend.
Bat I am not calling Wlad the dirtest fighter I have ever see but yes he holds on the inside excessively and he uses his jab like a stiff arm. he holds it extended out and uses it to prevent his opponent from advancing. it is illegal to hold your jab out like that. Look it up in the rule book if you don't belive me. Non the less the reff allowed it in his past fight so it is what it is. If I have a tactic that would help me in the ring and the reff allowed it I would use it too whether or not it was illegal or legal....Lefty
Wlad is basically unbeatable right now, gotta respect him for that.
yeah he is king standing atop a heaping pile of cow dung we call the HW Division. His fights are just short of a snooze fest and he is critizied not only by his haters but even by fans of boxing round the world like myself for not putting a little bit of excitment in his matches. I don't know about you but I rather watch a great fight then see a fighter of Wlads quality just jab and stiff arm his was to a shut out. Wlad come on there are more than just Jabs and straight right hands. Have you ever heard of a body shot, uppercut or a left hook?...I said it before and I will say it again I rather watch the grass grow in the dead of winter than ever tune in to another Wlad fight again.....Lefty
Wlad has been tested and failed in the past, but has come back better, smarter, and stronger every single fight afterward.
Talk all the smack you want about Wlad. He may not be the champ you want, but unfortunately for you, he's gonna be the champ for a long time.
"When you get hit that’s when you’ve got to be calm. A professional fighter has to learn how to hit and not get hit, and at the same time be exciting. That’s what professional boxing is about. You’ve got to be clever, you’ve got to be smart, and not get hit, and when you’re able to do this, you’re a fighter."
Cus D'Amato
were just saying if he were fighting in the gladiator dayz that if the opponent did'nt kill him the crowd after watching his performance would...get me?
he would never get that wooden sword Proximo got from marcus CEaser in the movie...he fights like old people fcuk...Lefty
how can a boxer be shitted on for losing???losers fall and stay down..but a champion falls and gets back up and takes back whatever they lost...isnt that why we love boxing???
I love boxing for the drama in the ring the trials and tribulations the knock outs and the back and forth action...I love boxing because I did it for some time and I know it is hard and not everyone can do it. I love boxing because unlike team sports you don;t have someone to fall back on it is you and the other guy man to man 1 on 1...I love boxing because it is the only sport in the world where wo highly conditioned trained athletes compete for 36 minutes or until ne of them cannot get up....All those things are absent from Wlads fights...he is condtioned and trained but it is very rare you find a HW lie that that mathyces those criteras today....Lefty
wlad is a highly skilled boxer but as everyone knows he has become extremely boring...and its clear in his fights that he is scared to take a shot..in his fight with tony thompson in the early rounds thompson was landing shots on wlad and getting over wlads jab..and wlad literally was spazzing out trying to clinch thompson..if thompson would of had more power i would put money on it that thompson would of KOed wladimir..thompson WAS one of americas good heavyweight boxers but he lacked power..thompson has alot of technical skill but fighters like arreola who lack technical skill but have alot of power will struggle against wladimir..we need a fighter who has a balanced skillset..we either have a boxer who hits hard but lacks technical skill (arreola) or we have a boxer who has technical skill but doesnt have much power..(thompson,chambers,byrd)
Wlad has an excellent hook also. Maybe that he uses the jab and right hand a lot in the Ibragimov and Chagaev fights, but if it works can you blame him? He might still be a bit worried about his chin which might be why he doesn't take the chances that you'd like him to take.
You can pick just about any champion and find something that you don't like. Perhaps time makes the past seem much better than the present but you cannot name one HW champion who didn't fight snoozers.
And for my money the Chagaev fight wasn't a snoozer. It was only thanks to Chagaev's granite chin that the fight went as long as it did. Wlad put on a clinic and barely set a foot wrong. I honestly think he should be included in the p4p list.
If it is P4P most boring then yes he is #1.....Bat my beef is not that he never takes chances it is that he never really tried to put his opponents away even after everyone in the house including the announcers were calling for him to do it. he never threw one hook the entire fight I don;t have the punch stats in front of me but I don;t remember seeing one hook even after he had Chagev hurt. I DO NOT DISLIKE WLAD I thinkhe is a very intellegent man and a genuinely good guy. He is highly skilled but in my mind he has been tested and failed and what we got out of those tests is the fighter he is today very slow moving very calculated and exteremly boring......As for what Larry said in a prior post yes turning your weakness into stength undersandable but you cant turn a bad chin good if it gets tapped it will shatter again and he knows it. the reff allows him to hold in Germany and use his jab like a stiff arm as well which excessively are both illegal....Lefty
Lennox did much of the same he found out what worked used his jab to set up other punches other punches besides a straight right hand...he actually threw more then two punches Bat...I wasn't the most found of Lennox but I gained respect for him the last few years of his career. I especially enjoyed his bout against Vitali....I had my criticsims of him yes he used his jab alot and he tied people up on the inside but he did exchange punches a hell of alot more then Wlad does..he also throw 3 and 4 punch combos upper cuts and left hooks....Lefty

Wlad should listen to this and learn that his fighting style while it is effective and he wins is quite boring for fans to watch....Lefty
Thanks for the RED K Tunney ....Lefty
I cannot wait to read your take on Lennox.

Nah Larry
everyone is entitled to their opinion
See like you say that about fighting smart and its not always entertaining
that is how someone fights that wants to be undefeated and so be it
but others go balls out and its more entertaining and a bigger risk
Some are just willing to take it when others arent
I do think the whole division is shyte though
Lennox would beat all those fools
I never apprecitated him cause of his stupid british accent but now that he is gone I see that he really was one bad mo fo
I saw a post about HW's and some one talking about a tournament and in that thread someone mentioned Wlad and he would like to see him tested by a real HW. How quick we forget that he has been tested and he failed miserable. Corrie Sanders, Brewster and when Wald was 24-0 he fought Ross Purity who was 24-13 at the time (he finished 30-20) and Wlad failed that night too TKO Round 11...Since then Wlad has become a very good HW with a glass chin. The fact he knows he has a glass chin makes him a very cautious HW he uses his jab and size on the inside by smothering his opponent anytime they get close enough to land a punch. the result is a very boring afair where Wlad dominates by keeping his opponent at bay with numerous jabs slowly moving around the ring at the distance that suits him pawing with his jab throwing a hard jab sort of liek a sitff arm jab and then a straight right. Very slowly methodically and boring...He has took over and dominated a divison of rejects putting his brother in the #2 spot like a NASCAR team to block anyone who might be a threat to him. Remember shake and bake from Talidaga Nights? Shake and Bake Shake and Bake....Wlad and Vitali....Wlad has been tested and failed now he reinvented himself and personally I rather watch tthe grass grow in the dead of winter than ever watch Wlad fight again....Lefty

Wlad had poor stamina and may still have a soft jaw. But since then he's taken over. Only HW he wouldn't beat is the 1 he won't fight for family reasons.
