This kid is crazy talented .. he's the most polished young fighter in the game at 22 years old. More importantly he doesn't fight stupid. His punches are so fast and accurate. 137-7 amatuer record. He's gonna be a star in this game for a long time
i'v read interviews with birmingham and other people around him since he's turned pro and it's the same thing.
He spars, does training at the gym then naps 2 hrs, then goes to a pool with his dad and swims, then nap, then lifts weights, runs like crazy, everything is non stop.
in 1998 Korobov's family moved to Florida and Korobov, a young teen, stayed behind in Russia for 10 more years by himself so he could develop and continue his amateur career. By all accounts he eats, sleeps, and breathes boxing and has a freakish work ethic. That's what makes him even more scary.
Oh, and not that any of you will probably care but his mother is Ukrainian and so is his Fiancee! i love him even more since finding that out.
Jacobs is nice I wanna see wat happens we he really gets tested against better competition. He looks good tho. Seems real relaxed in there. He sparred at my gym not too long ago.
True, but Korobov seems the better boxer.
Not seen many of Jacobs fights ( If you know of one or two ones that higlight his skills, tell me? ), but Korobov has much better handspeed than someone people credit him for, accurate punches and he's got quite a bit of power too.
I'll admit, his last fight had me worried.
Wasn't looking comfortable at all in there and I think he might had even had some swelling.
Perhaps I'm calling this too early?
I'd take a look at his last fight against Walton and his fight against Varela, the Walker fight was OK but he didn't look as good in that one, he took that fight 8 days after he fought Varela.
Jacobs' handspeed is comparable to Korobov's quite possibly even faster, his accuracy is pretty good too, throws some really nice combinations, has a nasty habit of pulling straight back even though he didn't do it much in his last fight.
I don't think you're calling it too early but I don't think he'll be at the top as quickly as Top Rank were saying based on his last fight. I think he'll still go a long way it'll just take a little more time. Top Rank is probably the best promotional company out there for building up young prospects.
Interesting little fact if you didn't know it already. Korobov beat Jacobs in the amateurs.
he chops a little too much with his punches imo. when he straightens them out, its a whole different story though, gets way more power behind them.
I didnt care for Danny's temperament in the Walker fight either. he looks excellent when hes not threatened, but when Jacob is pressured, he doesnt seem to sit on his punches at all.
you cant simply run from your opponent all night. good pressure fighters know how to deal with that. you need to threaten them with real firepower and clean counters.
I think that had something to do with him taking the Walker fight on 8 days notice after fighting Varela the previous week.
He seemed to do better with Walton's pressure. Dealt well with the cut too.

3:40 - 4:40 is utter destruction

Could you see Bunce's stream in America?
I probably could have but did not know much about him until joining this site. I thought that he was just a guy that commentated on fights after the fact and did interviews.
Korobov didn't look as good on the undercard of Cotto-Clottey when he was forced to go the distance. Right now Jacobs has faced better competition, Jacobs was looking as good as Korobov fighting the guys Korobov has been fighting.
No, I mean in general - not just Korobov.
Like any European prospects?
I'm not saying you all nut-hug American prospects, just wondered if you follow young fighters from Europe.
well, I do my best to try and follow European prospects, but it gets pretty hard to follow them when I cant even see them fight on television. Theres the internet, but still. I dont have unlimited leisure time to go out of my way to look these guys up, and if theyre fighting nobodies in the first place, why bother?
and also, its a little harder to connect to someone that doesnt speak your language, doesnt live in your country, etc...
not to mention some of the European prospects have impossible names to spell out, unless you really make the effort to remember them.
so...while Ill gladly follow European prospects if I get the chance, its only natural to not be that interested in a lot of them.
(until they start proving themselves)
Jacobs has skills, I think he can challenge for a world title in about a year, he's steadily ramping up the competition now, Manfredo will be a good test for him.
No, I mean in general - not just Korobov.

Due to major television stations such as HBO and Showtime rarely airing young European fighters, it is often hard to keep up or gain access to hot prospects that may deserve the attention and provide fans with great fights that they would love to watch.
I don't know, He looked like shit on the Hatton Pac under card. That Russian Olympian who fought before him will stop him.
he was comming off A fight one week pryor to that....
Do Americans ever hype fighters from Europe?
well he hasnt fought anyone even midlevel yet, how are we supposed to judge him?
and I have to admit, he is rather ponderous when hes not on the offensive, and a tad bit slow.
when he does start attack, its pretty impressive though. good amount of variety.
I think hes a little old for a newbie middleweight though.
Kessler isn't stomping anything but bums.
His power is overrated.
He couldn't even stop Anthony Mundine...Sven Ottke did that.:lol1:
He couldn't even stop shot LIGHTWEIGHT Dingaan Thobela.:boxing:
30 years old and still scared to take off the training wheels.
Jacobs will have a far better career than Kessler.
So Kessler could not ko a blown up lightweight? I still think Jacobs gets beat in one-sided fashion by Kessler.
I'm not saying that Jacobs is trash or anything as he has skill but I'll put it like this: he has all ko's in every single fight until he faces a guy with only one loss and then he manages a ud and looks less than stellar. Once he really steps it up, he will not really be that impressive.
Kessler wiped out Andrade and Mundine on the score cards and ko'd Beyer and Lucas, both decent fighters of recognition. His only loss was to Calzaghe who is definitely no slouch.
Even the inexperienced, green version of Jacobs would beat Bute, Froch, or Kessler right now.
Korobov is garbage. Far too slow to ever amount to anything. But he'll still get hyped up for reasons that have nothing to do with boxing skill.
I can only assume you've never watched him fight.

The getting hyped for reasons that have nothing to do with boxing skill comment, i assume you're saying that he sucks but because he's white he'll get hype behind him.
Now who's lying, a black american vs a Russian, who's more likely to get hyped not on merit but rather skin color and where there from by American Press, if you say a Russian you're lying through your teeth.
Fact is they both deserve hype based on skill and amateur accomplishments, they're both the real deal. I think Korobov is better, you disagree, time will tell but don't spit some bullshit like a 2x World Amateur Champion hasn't accomplished shit you dumbass

Can't embed but if you want to see handspeed go to 6:05 & watch the 5 punch combo that leads to a knockdown
I recommend watching the whole fight, it's only 1 1/2 rounds.
Korobov's amateur record is over 300 wins and 10 or 11 losses, 05 and 07 World amateur champ and he beat Jacobs in the Am's
Jacobs is very good but he's just not great at anything, very complete but Korobov is better in every department. Korobov rapes him if they ever fight in the pro's.
