All I have to say is that was some of the most despicable behavior I have seen in a long time from such a over hyped prospect. It was a fight that he wasn't totally out from, and he wasn't even very badly hurt, and what did he do when he went down, he quits. He could have at least stayed down after the knockdown, and make himself look hurt, but instead he gets up immedietle and when the ref asks him if he is okay he walks away and shakes his head. This man is not a fighter, and makes Kermit Cintron, who never blatantly quit, look like Anturo Gatti. Disgusting behavior from a soft fighter. Also yes, Amir Khan would whoop his ass again.
Its his health, his life, his decision. I bet if Ali and some other fighters could start over, they wouldn't allow themselves to take the punches they took before. You would think boxing fans would understand this stuff, instead they ask the fighters to give their lifes for boxing which is only a form of entertainment. Boxing is not not worth any fighters life. I don't blame Ortiz, he wan't making it through that round and he knew it. He's not a top prospect in my mind any more, but I will continue to watch him.
Maidana won all his fights prior to Kotelnik on KO, now he won this one on TKO. I'm really looking forward to the Kotelnik- Khan fight as the winner may face Maidana at some point of time. As for Ortiz, unfortunately he exposed himself as someone that can't take a punch without whining. look at his face expression between the 5th-6th rd's..when the corner told him that they will stop the fight..he didn't even reply..as he didn't care. I gotta feeling that, if he decide to continue fighting, that he will fight some c-level competition to make some more $ and then call it the day. Boxing is too physical for some one to suceed without a heart.
Ortiz was out before he got hit. Didnt you see how he was in the corner before the round started? The guy was really hurt. You could tell the fight was over before the last round started.
Should he have quit, NO. Was he done, YES!. He had been slowed in the previous rounds by tons of solid punches especially the one that sent him down in the first. I think he will be ashamed and will be back strong but his chin might be the thing that spells his undoing. I think his heart will not be questioned again after this because he will be ashamed and not let it happen again. He should have fought on cuz he'd of been knocked right back down and the reg would've stopped it inside 20 more seconds.
oh hell yea but not just his heart in quetion but the ability to want it....this was suppose to be a showcase for him and it turn out really bad
at the end of the interview he said he has alot of thinking to do and he looked very discourage
If you'd have seen Maidana before and Ortiz's level of opposition you'd know this wasn't a showcase no way no how.
60/40 Ortiz yes but no way a showcase.Maidana was the first top 10 fighter Ortiz fought.
The funny thing was,Maidana got knocked down THREE times, and way harder then Ortiz did,the 2nd round Maidana got dropped heavily twice,he got up like it didnt happen and carried on fighting, the KD that dropped Ortiz for the final time wasnt even a hard KD,and he turned his back and quit?
His heart is in question yes.

That right hand Ortiz got hit with in the round before the last one swelled up his eye real fast.
Maidana hit him w/ the Paul Williams punch what did you expect?
i get the feelin he will always quit when faced with a hard fight.
he met someone who wasnt gonna lay down in front of him,
his 1st real test, and he quit, idk, i hope he gets better.
c'mon it wasn't all that bad.
That shit was disgusting, what does Ortiz think, that he will dominate all of his fights? This was the first competitive fight he was in, and what does he do instead of sucking it up and digging deep, he quits while he evidently was still there.

Glad people are giving Cintron his respects, Cintron was hurt by margarito and what Ortiz did was disgusting. He got up right away, didn't even look at the ref to try and look like he wanted to still fight. He walks away and purposely goes to the doctor trying to look for a way out. And he even admits it in his conversation with Kellerman.
