Kostya's solid chin, power, and patented straight right down the middle will finish Cotto in the late rounds. Kostya would eventually land with hard shots and I can't envision Cotto absorbing them for long.
Those who say Kostya was lucky against Judah are speaking nonsense. His signature move is a left-jab followed by a powerful straight right to the chin that his opponents try to avoid every round.
There was no luck in that punch. It was the same punch he had just landed on him two seconds beforehand, but with much less impact. It was also perfectly set up. Unless a fighter swings without looking where he is throwing, or just wings a huge shot in the middle of a toe to toe battle, there are no lucky punches in boxing. He was calmly figuring Judah out, and y the end of the round landed one of what would have been many similar right hands to follow. It just happened that one was enough.
But, if that punch was lucky, then I guess all Tszyu's wins were lucky. Especially all the ones he won with that same right hand shot.
:fing02:
It wasn't a lucky Punch. It was a well timed punched. It was bound to happend sooner or later in that fight.
You're right...
after watching that short clip again. I would have liked Naddy to give Judah a moment to get himself together and try and beat the count on his own.
one lucky punch+a retarded fighter=judah's first loss

he has not achieved more than tszyu. that's the point.
cotto is the more current fighter.
his opponents are fresh in mind.
10-15 years from now people who are new to boxing will look at guys like torres , abdulaev , corley , etc. the same way you look at guys like hurtado , bergman , jake rodriguez , hugo pineda , etc.
This is the part I find most amusing. You have people saying Quintana is better than anyone Tszyu ever fought, apart from Judah and Hatton. He has had three title fights, been knocked out in five rounds in one, won the other and then was knocked out in one round by the same guy in his next fight, and somehow he's better than everyone Tszyu has ever fought....Oh, except for Hatton and Judah because they're the only two guys still fighting a lot today and the only two fighters they know.
People were just as hyped about Jan Bergman as they are about Victor Ortiz today when he fought Tszyu. He was undefeated at 32-0, had knocked nearly every single opponent out, had won the WBC 140 Int. World Title off the former champion Kamel Ali, as well as just beaten the former champ Mike Johnson before he fought Tszyu, who knocked him out in six. No one remembers Bergman today though, just like no one will remember Quintana, Abdullaev, Bailey, Pinto, Corley etc etc.
In another ten years things will be in perspective again. I guess everyone is going to think that Cotto and everyone he fights is better because they are more involved with him.
he did when zab check hooked mayweather and his glove hit the ground but the ref didn't rule it a knockdown....
not really.... i caught floyd off balance.... thats about it... demarcus corley did more to floyd than judah did... much more
Yeah, and Tszyu was made to look a fool by a guy who got blasted out in two rounds and fell around the ring like a moron.
:dunce:
one lucky punch+a retarded fighter=judah's first loss
what is the big deal about moving up?
kostya didn't move up so he's shit?
some people don't move up. some do.
i don't understand why it should be held against a person.
who were the top guys at 147 when kostya was the king at 140?
judah , floyd , oscar , shane , forrest......
he beat zab.
floyd and oscar fought at 140 while kostya was there. he was past it by the time floyd came to 140 and do you think kostya would have turned down an oscar fight at 140?
shane skipped 140 altogether.
all the guys he could have moved up to 147 for , he could have fought at 140 but he didn't get a fight now did he.
and he whooped forrest in the ams. i'm sure he could have hung in there with vernon in the pros at 147 as well.
Moving up proves that a fighter can compete against the best despite weight or size advantages or disadvantages.
Don't take out your frustation with other poster on me, I never said Kostya was/is shit. It's not held against them, it just doesn't look as good when you're talking about the elite of all time and you have fighters that competed against and defeated solid-great fighters 10,20,30 pounds from where they began.
No, that's wrong. He never once made the lightweight limit of 135 pounds. He fought lightweights, but he was never at or under 135 pounds. He was always just under 140, therefore he was actually a 140 pound fighter, but, because the weight rules in non title fights were not a strict back then he was allowed to come in around 140 against lightweight contenders.
He was never a lightweight. Ever.
He was ranked as a lightweight. There are a bunch of fighters out there that fight a couple pounds over the weight limit they're going to contend at until an eliminator or title shot comes around. He was a lightweight.
Take it easy tough guy. :fing02:
What I find stupid is someone that says Tszyu was made to look a fool, even though, like Cotto he was hit once and then recovered straight away, even after he absolutely blew the prime, undefeated version of Judah out of the water where no one else could.
He didn't make him look unskilled, but he certainly won the first four rounds and was the only guy to legitimately knock Floyd down. You know what, the version of Judah that Tszyu fought beats Cotto.
You write a stupid, overly exaggerated post you get one in return.
as i said, and as u and everyone else knows, judahs lack of discpline contributed to that loss more than anything against tszyu.... zab is retarded, thats why he lost.... and floyd won round 3 i believe..... or was it 4? one of them at least..... judah was strong for the first 2, and faded from then on.....
and personally, i think judah had the physical tools necessary to beat anyone he has ever faced, but he lacks it in mentality, discipline and confidence.....
yeah and cotto was almost knocked out in the first round by judah :pat:.....
Yeah, and Tszyu was made to look a fool by a guy who got blasted out in two rounds and fell around the ring like a moron.
:dunce:
that bullshit in bold made me not finish reading ur dumb ass post... first off, cotto recover within seconds from that uppercut, and second off, judah never made floyd look slow and for damn sure never made him look unskilled.... now that my friend, was some stupid shit to say

No, he was a lightweight for 20+ fights Kenty and the other titlist didn't want any so he moved up and got Cervantes. The announcers even say it in the Pryor-Cervantes fight.
I'm not debating your argument, even though not moving up in weight does take off some luster off a resume, I'm debating that point cuz you're wrong.

You mean the same way a shot Judah made Cotto look like a fool in the first round by nearly knocking him out with an uppercut, or the way he made Mayweather look slow and unskilled in the first four rounds, whom he also knocked down.
The difference is Tszyu made adjustments straight away and then knocked him out in the very next round. Cotto fought the worst version of Judah (who hadn't won a fight in his last three) of any of these guys and the same thing happened to him. He was made to look stupid, slow and like he was going to be knocked out.
The difference is Cotto was actually hurt, whereas Tszyu just leaps back after getting tagged by the uppercut, which makes it look worse than it was. Very few punches even hit him, apart from the uppercut and a straight left.

no, actually the key phrase was "made him look like a fool"

well according to flawless , pryor can't be considered a great fighter because he stayed as champion at 140 instead of trying to fight at 147.
pryor was a junior welterweight dude.
he might have have had a few fights under 140 in the beginning but he's a junior welter.
