Why does everyone want Steward to train Cotto? Nacho Berstein would do a better job and be a better fit in my opinion. Cotto style is similar to Marquez brothers, Steward always looks for an opportunity to capitalize and make his training seem better than anyone elses... He always takes on fighters when they are already champs, he hasn't lead a prospect in a while... Even Andy Lee was Ko-ed.... Other fighters he came on board after they were champs... Cintron, Klitschko, Taylor, etc... Sorry I had to rant but I get tired of seeing all the threads about Steward like he is the savior of Trainers..
i agree with most steward is a good trainer and is better than what he had in his last fight i think the trainer was just someone in his inner circle, i know spanish and they did not give him much sound advice during the fight i also agree he could have used a better cutman.... the fight w/ pac is huge and he needs the best possible trainer he can get wether it be steward or nacho also i would get joe souza as my cutman since who knows how healed the cut he suffered in his last fight will be.
I dont know man, i think they might work quite well. Manny fighters tend to have a good right where as Cotto is all about the left hook/jab.... Mabey thats a good thing tho Miguel good do with developing the right hand further.
Steward seems to have a good measure of Cotto's strengths and weaknesses from what ive heard from his commentating on Cotto fights
i think steward is a good trainer because he doesn't have a template or method of teaching, he doesn't teach just one style and tailors his approach based on the fighter. a trainer like floyd snr can only teach one way, he can only teach one style.
manny is different he has taught the likes of vlad, lennow and lewis and with each fighter he focussed on their strentghs, on their skills rather than his own and used their sretghs to maks their weaknesses.
like i said hes a very clever guy he knows you can't go in there and expect the fighter to change everything, that does't work (see hatton and floyd snr). he gives advice on little things and teaches them how to end a combo what position their hands/feet should be in and he is excellent when developing a strategy.
his training style seems to focus on evolution rather than revolution
p.s. pacmans current cutman is fine he did a pretty good job last time around, initally it was still flowing but by the later rounds he had it sussed
Why do we all think that what he has now wouldn't work?? He was fighting fine in the Clottey fight till the headbutt I didn't see him looking bad. I believe the cutman should be changed back to the old guy from argentina, but other than that I thought they did a good job...
his cutman wasn't good? he did one HELL of a job.
the statement is too stupid to insult.
simply becuz stewarts better then cotto's current trainer
yep, basically any well known current trainer is better than cotto's current trainer.
cotto's trainer is a farce.

nah bro, they KNEW from the margo/cotto fight that cotto get's hit w/ uppercuts easily, but they didn't do shiit about it. that's a bad trainer imho.
also, cotto's trainer had no clue how to get past clottey's guard, but steward easily deduced that cotto should counterpunch when clottey punches.
cotto's current trainer is a joke.
I think everyone agrees with that, but it's just not feasible.
I don't think Steward is a great fit, but a real trainer is better than what he has now.
Nacho would be ideal, but that just would never happen.

People said the same thing about JT when he left Pat Burns.
I think everyone agrees with that, but it's just not feasible.
