Ive made this thread a few times lately about alot of fights and Im making it again. Cotto is a nice guy and a good boxer but it is much better for boxing if he loses. I 1st made a thread like this when Cotto fought Margarito. It wasnt quite like this and I picked Margarito to win but I said that boxing would take a bad hit if Cotto went down because he's an undefeated star who everyone was sweating at the time. Ofcourse the worst of both worlds happened. Cotto got KO and then Margarito was found to be a cheater. It basically brung 2 guys who everyone considered top notch and it took them down a level.
I then made a thread like this about Pac-Hatton. I said that it is much better for boxing if Pac wins because he's a much bigger star, is rated #1, and Hatton doesnt look that great after getting KO by Floyd and looking crappy in some other fights. Thankfully Pac won and now he sets up much better fights with Floyd, Mosley, Cotto, JMM, Khan, Valero, Bradley, and so on. Any of those guys vs Hatton wouldnt have been major fights even if he did beat Pac.
Now we come to Pac-Cotto. I said it before the Clottey fight and I say it even more now but no one agrees. The luster is off Cotto. He's still considered to be a very good fighter but he doesnt have that shine to him anymore. It would so suck if Pac lost. If he won then he could still have major fights with all those other guys I named. However, Cotto just got destroyed by Margarito, didnt look all that super against Jennings, and now was on his bike against Clottey in a fight where alot of people think he lost. That guy cant beat Pac. I mean we all know that he could but Im saying that its not great if he does. I dont mind Pac losing right now to Floyd because he's an undefeated star. I dont mind Pac losing to Mosley because he's also a star who just destroyed Margarito and is the WW champ. However, if Pac loses to a guy who just got slaughtered and looked pretty average in his last fight then that would hurt boxing a ton. The casual fan thinks Pac is a GOD right now and those who know Cotto see him as slightly damaged. If Cotto wins then that sets boxing back alot and we dont even get to see much better fights with Pac against a Mosley or Floyd.
If Cotto wins then Pac probably retires or has a couple of more ok fight and then retires while now Cotto will be raised up some with his win but we wont forget how he's looked recently. Im sorry but Im not exactly super excited about Cotto-Mosley anymore or even Cotto-Floyd. I use to think Cotto-Floyd was a mega fight when both were unbeaten but now its just a solid/ok type fight. Im not just excited about Cotto right now as I am about Floyd, Pac, JMM, Mosley, and Williams. It would just set things back to me and put boxing in a haze. Like where would we go for the big fights? Pac-JMM would be solid but nothing major like it wouldve been. NO way Floyd or Mosley fights Pac then. Cotto is just not that sexy of a fight to me against anyone except a guy like Williams because I think that fight would just be freaky to look at and I actually give Cotto a good chance to win because of his style. If he beat Pac then he should fight Williams next because I think that would make him get his shine back. The Pac fight just wont do enough for me, even if he stops him
Agree, they didn't even read the whole thing but sometimes I can't blame em :( DLT has too much to write.
Seriously though Dom? It took me about 2 minutes to read.

I can see that most of you responded without actually reading it or you just cant understand anything. Im not telling Cotto to throw the fight. Im not even saying that he will lose. I could see him knocking Pac the **** Out. I could also see the exact opposite happening. Im just saying that it is bad for boxing if Pac loses this fight. If the biggest or 2nd biggest star in your sport loses then you want it to be against someone who is on top of his game, not against a guy who has looked very subpar lately. Its not like boxing is the NFL. It only gets hype every once in awhile and we just got alot of hype when Pac killed Hatton. If he lost to guys like Floyd, Mosley, or JMM then it wouldnt be bad because all those guys are beasting right now but Cotto seems to be going the opposite way. Basically Im saying that I think its pretty clear that right now Pac is the better fighter and if he loses then it will most likely be because Cotto is just too big & strong for him, not so much better
How in the **** can anyone keep reading this garbage when you say a fighter beat another fighter by knocking him out in 5 rounds and say he looked bad doing it. That may me stop reading this shit, honestly Cotto landed 118/237 50% compared to 30/197 for Jennings. I know Jennings is no Great fighter but he held a record of 34-1. Shit what did he need to knock him out in the first round. Are you kdding me, stop making stupid ass threads like this and you won't get ripped a new asshole. By the way do you see Cotto's fan base now. If that ain't proof to you that he is still loved and admired then you are not right mentally. Look here whoever wins this fight is deserving and will be one of the sports biggest draw.
Cotto is mainstream enough and will feasibly get big enough fights to where it won't hurt the sport if he wins. People lose, and the people that beat them go on to become bigger stars.
Look at Margarito...had pedestrian drawing power, beats Cotto, and goes on to sell out the Staples Center.
It's only bad for boxing if the guy is truly a nobody and won't get any fights. Like it would have been bad if Clottey beat Cotto, cause even if he beat him Pac, Mosley, nor Mayweather would have fought him. If Cotto beats Pac, we'll have a Mayweather fight on the horizon and that'll be huge.
the thing is, I'm not sure floyd will fight cotto.
It's an interesting post, but I respectfully disagree. Cotto's standing by fighting Mosley, Margarito and Clottey, has been tremendously enhanced even with and perhaps because of the loss and the difficulties he faced with those challenges. We can't have it both ways. We bust on a fighter's arse if he hand picks his opponents and wins clean. We got to respect when a fighter steps up and takes on the tough opponents.
And it's always been that way. Ali losing to Frazier, enhanced his legacy, it didn't detract, it added luster. IMO
you have to respect cotto for taking on tough opponents, but you must also acknowledge that he is vulnerable.
but, against pac he will be too big. everyone one of cotto's punches will hurt pac. cotto even got a knockdown on clottey from a jab.
let's be serious.

Man, you guys are harsh on DLT. He writes an in-depth post and rather than reading what the man has to say and discussing his points rationally you read only the title and call him all kinds of names.
WTF? People have different opinions! Deal with it! If you want to insult and hate, throw insults and hate the people who truly deserve it. Stop acting like a bunch of bitches.
DLT: I think it's a decent post and I agree with you on a number of points.
Agree, they didn't even read the whole thing but sometimes I can't blame em :( DLT has too much to write.
People forget that guys like Oscar and Mosley had bad fights (all boxers do), but look at their body of work (especially Mosley as of recent). You really think Cotto is done as a fighter? The dude is only 28 yrs old and has fought arguably the top 4 WWs in the last 2 years. There isn't another WW right now that could say that.
I believe he's still in prime shape, he just had a tough outing against a tough opponent in Clottey let alone the cut over his eye making him see out of 1 eye. Now, can Pacquiao beat Cotto? Yes, and Can Cotto beat Pacquiao? Yes. Styles make fights and both guys' styles makes for a very interesting fight.
great point and i think u hit it one the money plus when u face top elite guys your not goin to look as good and i think this fight is going to be very intresting
