i think pac is giving up more than cotto with the weight, cotto is the bigger guy and he can make the weight without hurting himself, i don't think he would be weight drained, 2 pounds is quite a bit in boxing, but cotto was a guy that has alway been professional and trains like a professional, therefore i think he will eat and train like a pro to get to the contracted weight and we can all see one hell of a fight.
cotto is one of the most professional fighters i've ever seen in my life, 145 is very doable for him and he will be ready for war come fight time.
i like this fight, 145-147, who cares form our stand point as fans, this is a style match up that is going to be explosive..........
i wonder if pacquiao's body will be able to handle cottos bone crushing power????
I don't know Cotto's body though and what cutting an extra pound will do, but 145 seems alright to me.
a baby infant could lift 1 pound. It is the same as fighting him at welter weight.
Fair would be to meet half way though. In this case, Cotto has the better end of the deal since 2 pounds is not going to be a huge factor. Unless they really want to streatch the rehydration processes.
Are both titles on the line?
Correction, only 1# Cotto never weighs 147 at weigh in.
GAME ON! Only a pacman hater will shit on 145. This is a legit fight, I got Cotto by middle round stoppage. Im not going to judge Cotto off the Clottey fight, no one looks good fighting Clottey especially with blood streaming into their eye.
agreed
No one knows really, only Cotto knows his own body. If he thinks 145 is fair, then he'll sign the contract and shouldn't have any excuses if he loses.
agreed
if a guy is at 147 and can't cut 2 lbs. to 145......he shouldn't be at 147.
cotto guys try to tell me cotto is only 155 lbs. on fight night YET he can't cut 10 lbs. to 145?
hmmm.........
people can't have their cake and eat it too.
Unfortunately, that's a problem in boxing. Maybe not with Cotto, but with other guys.
They're just barely making the weight limit and look like zombies doing so.
its fair... because cotto have to pay his lottery ticket with pac.. so he have to risk something in order to get the shot...
but i voted for its good... but not the best for cotto.. cos the best it will be 147...
still 145 is fair.. hope everyone got my point!
Cotto said he is comfortable with 145 lbs. His admission means we must all agree.
The catchweight is valid because Manny is at a disadvantage. To level the playing field, Miguel should be forced to train extra harder for this fight. It's not unreasonable to give Cotto an extra challenge if Pacquiao is willing to fight well above his maximum weight class.
Sounds ok, but I still say if this has to happen, Pac should want it at 147, full fledged. I just don't get the point to a fight where the winner can't get full cred.
Cotto fighting at 160 against a guy weighing at most 147 on fight night is more than fair to me.
You think their is something wrong with that yet their was a bigger weight difference between Oscar/Floyd. And Guzman/Soto aswell. Floyd was the smaller fighter in that fight, and won. Soto was the smaller fighter and lost but not because of size because Guzman still fought his hit and run style even being much bigger then Soto!
Skills win fights, not size entirely
Not fair for Pacquiao cuz he has to move up 5 pounds while cotta only gotta go down 2 pounds.
He is getting the bigger check, so he is happy. Both are big draws, so I guess Cotto getting the weight advantage is only fair since he is getting cheaped on the money right now with it being 65/35. Probably should have been like 60/40 for Pacquiao, but I guess the weight was part of the contract so 65/35 may stick.
Fair would be to meet half way though. In this case, Cotto has the better end of the deal since 2 pounds is not going to be a huge factor. Unless they really want to streatch the rehydration processes.
