November fight may be the last for politics-bound Pacquiao

MANILA, Philippines – Manny Pacquiao appears bent on entering the political ring that he is seriously contemplating leaving the boxing ring for good.
The reigning pound-for-pound king declared he is good for one last fight, his projected November 14 gig at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas intended to be his swan song.
“Siguro last fight ko na ito para magserbisyo naman ako sa mga tao," Pacquiao said in an interview on 24 Oras.
“Ang mama ko nga ayaw na niya akong lumaban pero sabi ko, kaya ko pa naman, isa pa," added the two-time Fighter of the Year, whose camp is currently in negotiations with WBA welterweight champion Miguel Cotto for a possible showdown.
Pacquiao is eyeing a congressional post in Saranggani Province in next year’s elections and he has already set the wheels in motion for this bid by forming his own local party, the People’s Champ Movement, and setting residence in the province.
Over the weekend, he graced the celebrations for the founding anniversary of the district of Malapatan, where he publicly expressed his intention to serve them as congressman.
“Itong mga kamao ko na ginamit ko pang-knockout sa mga kalaban sa boxing, gagamitin ko para makatulong sa inyo," he told his highly-appreciative “constituents."
To show his seriousness to help the townsfolk, Pacquiao, one of the highest-paid athletes in the world according to Forbes magazine and one of the most influential people based on a list by Time magazine, donated an ambulance and fire-truck for the district’s use.
This would be the Pacman’s second attempt at a House seat after getting knocked out in 2007 by incumbent Rep. Darlene Custodio over in South Cotabato district.
But before Pacquiao could train his 100 percent attention to politics, he has to take care of one more business in the ring first.
Currently, his promoter is in talks with fellow Top Rank fighter Cotto for his “lash hurrah."
The Filipino ring icon himself had greenlit the negotiations with Cotto after personally seeing the Puerto Rican fight and escape with a split decision win over challenger Joshua Clottey in New York last June 13.
Top Rank boss Bob Arum had expressed confidence he would get Pacquiao and Cotto to sign on soon for what he described as a terrific fight. Among the issues still to be ironed out are the purse split and possible catch weight. – GMANews.Tv

i think manny will win this time, but i will not vote for him hoping he will lose and get back 2 boxing, but the problem is i don't leave in saragani.......my hope dies!!!!!!:spank::spank:
Of course not. Better for the fans to have a guy like him around. But he's proven himself.I'd really like to agree that he's proven himself, but there's that nagging third Marquez fight that needs to happen. Then again, it may be just the same...those cherrypickers that dictate his career are just waiting to get the oldest JMM possible.
I hope Pacquiao loses the election again. he probably will though.
I think i heard that he will be running unopposed, so basically its a lock now
Imagine Manny in congress getting elected this time as the Speaker of the House LOL
Sounds familiar doesn't it?
STFU pacq. We see right through this nonsense. Why do u need to try to inflate your value? Unless he really is facing cotto next and needs to hype the fight even more.
What a shame if the Pacman retires when he is just truly in his prime!!!! Going out by KO against Cotto is not a bad way to go though!!!! For the love of Boxing dont vote for him Pinoys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think it would be a huge mistake for pacman to call it quits now.
He's in great shape and in his prime still (if you ask me).
I dont think its even near the time to contemplate quitting the sport.
He's got good years left in him...along with more great fights that can be made. he can still fight cotto, mayweather, mosley, etc.
The "political ring" can wait if you ask me.
My logic is why retire from a sport where being in good shape, being young, and being in your prime are key requirements to be great and you've still "got it" if you know what i mean?
especially when what you're retiring for is a career that doesnt require anything from you physically?
if i was pacman i'd fight the best while im still a top fighter and in great shape THEN retire and take on politics.
unless his legacy is no longer a matter of importance to him then i can understand because he has made his money (most definately) and hes in good health (no damages from the sport) so if he's no longer motivated i could see retiring but if he's still got the fire we all know he's still got his prime.
i say fight on pacman.
I really would like to see Floyd-Pac but if floyd had a rib injury it's not smart to go fight the pacman right after that, he might get hurt again. He better stay on track and spar with JMM and if pacquiao does beat cotto, which is unlikely, they can fight in 2010
I don't want him to retire. But if his heart isn't in fighting anymore maybe he should. He does a lot of things to help out the poor people who live in the PI. He visited those bomb victims over the weekend, and that was a good gesture. Having said that, a guy's thirst for combat can decrease inside the ring sometimes if they are too much of an icon to their country. I think Pacquiao has got more heart than Acelino Freitas, but he's a guy that comes to mind.
Of course not. Better for the fans to have a guy like him around. But he's proven himself.
No doubt, he is entitled to retire, but he is good for the sport so we should all want him to stick around...
Pacquiao tried to "serve his people" before and didn't get elected. He was popular in the country at the time too. So, really, I dont see him retiring after November. It only happens if he gets elected, he already got rejected once, who's to say it wont happen again?
Nah, he is a lot more popular now though than he was back then... regardless of his popularity back then, the guy is worshiped where he lives I think he would get elected no doubt.
i think me and Kess had like a 500K bet on the hatton fight
That explains it!
i'd want the cunt to retire too :D
I just never really liked him. I posted a thread after the De La Hoya fight that I was now a Pacman fan, bait thread though.. Nobody gave a shit though, as expected lol.
