Manny pacquiao in his last 4 fights, has walked into the ring on fight night as a full blown welterweight or even super welterweight....
he was:
145 against marquez last year(fighting at super featherweight)
147 against diaz last year(fighting at lightweight)
148 against oscar last year(fighting at welterweight)
and i believe he was 142 against hatton (correct me if im wrong)
Plus, espn's tale of the tapes shows that they are the same height, with the same reach. Im sorry guys but that makes this an even fight at 147. For this to be a real fight, both fighters need to be at their best. And there is no reason for this fight to be @ 145 instead of 147.
Note: if someone could post the tale of the tapes for the 4 fights aabove that would be great :boxing:
pac= started at 107
cotto= started at 135
oh shit!!they are completely the same!!
huh..think before you write.
think before you write pac was 16 you plank
manny is 30 u fuc.ken idiot....
Hey dude....chill out with the name calling. That's just being fkin' rude. Learn same forum manners. Real mature...u don't know me to talk to me like that.
I said i think he's around 35-38, and i read that more than once in this forum.
they ain't...and can somebody answer me a question...how tha F*** manny gained so much weight???? and don't even loss a bit of power neither speed??? and don't loking fat in such much little time???...i think he's ussing anabolics!!!
I've been wondering about that too...seems a little fishy to me. At 1st i was thinking steriods, but i doubt Manny would do that, I don't know what anabolics are, but I'm assuming they help you gain mass w/o effecting your workrate. as long as you keep working out a lot. Are they legal? He's seemed to reach a higher overall level in a pretty short time period...hence my agreeing they are around the same size.
Respect.
Nobody is making the argument that this isn't a welterweight fight, or that anything above 140 is a welterweight fight. The argument is that it shouldn't be for a welterweight belt. If the welterweight LIMIT is 147 you shouldn't be able to challenge for someone's title belt if you are FORCING a cap on their weight that's below what the divisional requirements allow. If Pacquiao wants to weigh 141 or whatever he wants that's fine but don't try to call yourself a welterweight champ when you won't let the champion defend the belt at the weight classes limit of 147. If Pacquiao or anyone has the nerve to say he deserves the belt if he wins then let Cotto come in at 147. It's that simple. I mean even if Pacquiao was to eventually fight for the ring welter belt it would probably be at a catch weight. that's a joke. I don't have any problem with this fight or any catch weight fight in particular, just not for a belt which this fight will be for. I don't think any legit argument could be made otherwise. If the sanctioning body: wbc, wba, ibf... etc say our welterweight title fights have a limit of 147 pounds then a challenger shouldn't be able to force his opponent to defend at 143, 144, 145, or any weight below 147.
Your post says 147= the limit. That's what the limit should be for the title!!!!!!
thank you, thank you, thank you. Ive posted this several times & they still dont get it.
Welterweight 147 lbs = the limit. NOT THE MINIMUM, NOT THE REQUIREMENT, BUT THE LIMIT.
Same thing about Cotto. He should just come out and say he doesn't want to fight a jr welter and move on.
In fact everyone should move on. Mosley wants the fight. The winner of Bradley-Campbell wants the fight. Valero wants the fight. Miguel should just junk the Pac fight and start negotiating with the other welters. That way everybody can just move on.
Good point. I've said in the beginning I'm a little uncomfortable with this fight...not 'zactly sure why, but even though they are around the same size it seems to be being made.
What????

No they ain't.
they have the same structure size but Cotto is a slightly stockier guy, he generally carries more weight than Pacquiao, Pacquiao comes in at a much lower body fat.
Pacquiao was 148 against Hatton however, he weighed in for Oscar at 142, and fought at 148.
This is what i meant, Mangler...I was looking at the chart in this thread (i tried to copy it here,) comparing them. Same height, reach, But Cotto has a bigger frame, has a little more meat on him, but manny is solid muscle. Somebody mentioned Manny having bigger legs, so it evens out a bit more. Cotto is 28, Manny i think is 35 or 38 years old.
So I guess Paul Williams should fight at Heavyweight since he as tall and has a bigger reach then some..... What a tool. Bad analysis my friend
says the guy thats already red with 200 posts........
has pwill ever fought over 166? idiot

the limit for the org is 147.
a catchweight is an agreement between the fighters.
all the org cares about is that neither fighter go above 147.
chavez-whitaker was at a catchweight of 145. pernell's welterweight belt was still on the line.
thanks pink for clearing that up..... i saw that fight, but it was in like Japanese so i didnt know.....

if thats the case, pac needs to stop flirting with wws if hes not gonna come up fully

u do follow boxing right? where have u been for the last month? just look at boxingscene archives, shane has publicly stated that he wants to fight pacquiao at 144, 60/40 split, for his wba welterweight crown, & rematch clause included to pacquiao. Like u said, it all depends on both camps negotiation for the crown. & as kenny blankenship pointed out, welterweight number of 147 pounds is the limit, not the required weight.
have u ever seen a catch weight fight for a title?
LOL. Where have you been? Mosley has repeatedly stated he'll go down in weight to make that fight happen.
All this bullshit about the weight. Like I said Miguel can stay at welter and fight other welters.
if thats the case, pac needs to stop flirting with wws if hes not gonna come up fully
shane has already stated on live tv that he wants the fight at 147....... i personally doubt that shane will put his title on the line at 143....... if shane is defending his title, he gonna want to weigh in at 147

i dont think so brah.
shane has stated numerous times publicly that he will fight pacquiao @ 144 & will stake his wba crown as well. im pretty sure cotto getting his biggest fight in his life vs his most popular & decorated opponent will stake his wbo crown as well.
we will see..... ive never seen a title defended at a catch weight....... but we will see.
You don't think so? Mosley has agreed to go down in weight, take a smaller percentage of the purse, went on a media blitz to get a Pac fight, did just about anything and everything to get a fight. And you don't think he'll agree to put his title on the line if it happens?
I agree Pac should just change his mind and fight Mosley. Both have no problems meeting at a catchweights. Only Cotto seems to have that problem. So Pac vs. Mosley make it happen. Or Pac vs. Bradley-Campbell winner. ANy other fights that fight fans won't bitch about.
MIguel can stay his ass at 147 and fight the other welters. PWill is calling him out.

and shane wont go for that shit either...... remember, pacquiao picked cotto himself..... not the other way around
