I kind of feel he is disrupting the welterweight and JR. WW division...
For starters... Mosley-Cotto SHOULD be the very next fight...
You have the two biggest guys, the two champions of the division, and neither are looking at any other welterweights right now..
Then you have PAC who has the Lineal title at 140... and he isn't looking at any other 140lbers right now, either..
Mosley Cotto are the two guys are at the very top of their division, their last fight was very close... and I think Mosley-Cotto should be happening next, but neither of them can take their eyes off Pacman. I understand why, I do... but I feel like they should be focused on becoming the undisputed champion. How good can you feel as champion... when there are two other champions in your own weightclass... I feel like that is unfinished business.
I also feel like, if Pac feels he can beat welters, then he should fight them at welter... If they are too big, then stay at JR WW... until you feel you can handle another move up in weight.
Catchweights may make for interesting fights, but they do not help us sort out either division. In a time of boxing when every weight class has 3-4 different champions, these catch weight fights aren't helping matters.
Also, neither fighter will get full credit for a win... If you beat Mosley or Cotto under 147lbs, how much credit do you expect to get?
Just to end all that, it's not that I wouldn't enjoy a catchweight between Pac-Mosley or Pac-Cotto... I definitely would, I would buy both fights, and I would enjoy both fights, and I know they would BOTH be exciting... I just think as far as boxing purists, there are more important things.
Like a unified champion in the division.
P.s. I am assuming about a 50% agree/disagree here... because I know a lot of people prefer these catchweights... and it's understandable.
Extra Side Note: Full blame is not just on Pac, but Cotto and Mosley as well..
Pac if you want to fight Cotto/Mosley beat them at their best... if you can't, then stay in your division or wait until you can move up to do so...
Cotto/Mosley: You have unfinished business
Take away the headbutt and the cut, and the blood in the eye, and i can't see anything to worry about with cotto. Clottey would have not scored as many right hands during the 7-9 if cotto had full vision. I think these two are a great match up, but i would say 8 out of 10 cotto would edge out the win. His left hook was the biggest punch in that fight, it was just hitting a mack truck is all. Iron chin clottey. Cotto has a great chin as well.
That is a short-term success, and only benefits the bank accounts of Cotto, Pac and Arum, and provides about an hour or less of entertainment.
It does nothing to further establish legitimacy or clarity to either 140 or 147.
agreed.
Wrong. He DOES need these guys because Pac now thinks he shouldnt have to fight for less than $10 million or more, which he probably can't get fighting anyone at 140, except maybe Khan, and he's busy at the moment. So for Pac to get his $12 million (heaven forbid he have to fight for a measly $7 or $8 million) he has to look north of 140.
well being king means that pac gets his choice of the hoes and sets the price and rate too.
Right now the fight that has to be made is what's better for boxing and that fight Cotto vs Pac.

Don't blame Pac, blame Mosley and all those that want to fight Pac so badly.
Pac moved up to 140 and everyone at 147 is drooling over the possibility to fight Pacman because he is the new Golden Boy, they all want that money. Mosley is absolutely obsessed with fighting pacquiao, he wont even talk about anyone else.
Pac doesn't need these guys he's the King of boxing right now and the biggest money maker, he could fight anyone and it would sell well at this point.
No one is forcing Cotto or Mosley to fight Pac, if anything it's the other way around - they are chasing the almighty dollar.

yeah, cotto, mosley, pbf, jmm... there all just paydays for pac now. pac's paid his dues. unfortunately for pac, these paydays are the badest meanest "paydays" you could find.
that's why you gotta love pac.Winning any of these fights by KO would be a big bonus for manny but I feel he really is just busy right now preparing for the next year's political circus. If manny loses then some of his huggers may be turned off and vote against him or it maybe the same as the last election when people got his money but voted for the other more capable candidate. Manny losing his next political fight will be good for boxing.
I agree.
But.....
Manny Pacquiao already has 54 fights. yes thats 54 professional fights. There were no running in all those fights. Manny fought like a rabid animal without a decent meal in yrs in all those fights.
He's looking for the money. Its that simple. Retirement plans doesnt help either.
No offense reed but if pac beat mosley, people would say he's a cotto leftover, and if he beats cotto, people would say he's a margo leftover. Either way pac won't get any credit in beating this great WWs even if they fight at 147. Besides, manny is doing this fighting now for the sole purpose of financing his congressional bid on may, 2010 and has no concern about legacy because he feels he already has that. It is for these reasons that pac must demand for a catchweight. :D

If he wants to fight for a lineal welterweight title, against a lineal welterweight champion, and he in turn wants to be the lineal welterweight champion... then he should fight at welterweight. That's how I feel.
yeah, but technically WW is anything between 147-141 lbs.

I really don't feel Pac is messing up the Welterweight division or junior Welterweight division. It all comes down to the fighters in each of their own respected division themselves if they truly want to be great or not. Pac has proven to be great already and is on his way out with 1 or 2 more huge fights before he tries his hand at politics again.
I am assuming Pac vs Cotto is up next, and I would love this fight to be at 147. A catch weight is fine, but as long as both parties agree to it, doesn't really matter to me as long as the fight gets made. A fight with Floyd is out of the question now since hes suppose to be injured. As for Mosley, he wanted Miguel Cotto, but Cotto didn't want that fight again. I understand Mosley's situation and the fact that he only wants big fights because if his age. Mosley has to fight one of the top welterweights now if Cotto and Pac do fight. A Berto fight is the only fight that would make him close to the amount of money he would want with Pac. Or Mosley can just wait for Margarito again and destroy him the same way, but its really up to Mosley to decide.
Again, its not Pac messing up the divisions, its the fighters themselves in the division who chose not to be great by not wanting to fight the best in their division. Money will always be a huge factor in making a decision and it wasn't always like that for Pac. He earned his right to make big money and has fought Wars to get to where hes at. Like I say all the time, its all up to the fighters and their mentality to truly want to be great that brings the best out of a division.

I agree with that
if pac fights cotto or mosely at 145 or lower, will pac be fighting for the ww lineal title?

alright well drop the plasterito thing, obviously i know your viewpoint on that.
This thread isnt about not making exciting fights.. matter of fact what I said in my very first post is, I would enjoy these fights, I would buy these fights.
What this thread is about, is the fact that these catch weight fights are disrupting the weight classes, we have a lineal champion at one weight class, who isnt looking to fight anyone in his weight class..
And we have two champions both evenly at the top of their division, and they are both focusing, not on each other to make a recognized ww champion... but on another fighter in a different weight class..
Thats what this thread is about.
If Pac wishes to move TO welterweight to fight the welterweight champions, I dont have a problem with that... but don't drag them below their best weight.
If you want to beat Cotto or Mosley, beat them at their best... or wait until you can, and let them fight.
if pac fights cotto or mosely at 145 or lower, will pac be fighting for the ww lineal title?
1. JMM called out PBF right? Answer: _____
2. PBF chose JMM because JMM called him out right? Answer: _____
3. By calling out PBF, JMM already chose PBF beforehand, RIGHT? Answer: _____
4. So why did the fight get scheduled if they did not choose each other?
Do you think PBF-JMM will happen if JMM did not choose to fight him beforehand?
5. It takes TWO to CHOOSE for a fight to materialize, and JMM chose first, called out PBF. If JMM did not call out PBF do you think PBF chooses him?
What`s hard to understand?
Floyd could of called JMM at ANYTIME he felt like it, and asked for a fight, and JMM would agree to it.
Floyd is the chooser in this situation.. and you are the only person that feels otherwise.
If plasterito fought mosley, then it can be assumed that plasterito would be the lineal ww champ right now, not mosely and cotto would be getting a rematch with plasterito.
and lets not forget that boxing is for the fans, to provide fans with exciting fights that can encapsulate and enthrall the population, and whats better then a fight with the #1 draw, the pound for pound, most exciting fighter against the lineal champs ( in my eyes is cotto, mosely got lucky with a win over margarito not plasterito. thus I don't consider him the lineal ww champ right now.)
the catch weight is to create a even and competitive fight, and whose to say pac wont fight at 147?
alright well drop the plasterito thing, obviously i know your viewpoint on that.
