Okay so everyone has said their piece about "Oh Cotto is too big for Pac" or "Pac is too fast he can make it interesting against any WW". So lets poll this what's the bigger advantage? Maybe its just because he was fighting Clottey who tends to stand still at times but Cotto looked like he has slowed down a little bit. The fact that Cotto has been in a war 2 out of his last 3 fights could be a key reason for this. And those wars also makes this an even more difficult fight for him against Manny if they fight in October because his body will be weakened fighting so soon and it could become target practice for Manny if Cotto doesnt score a KO in the first 6 rounds. Manny's speed would become too much late in the fight for a weakened Cotto. I would even pick Pac by late TKO contrary to what i believed before the Clottey fight that Cotto would win by late KO or decision. Pac will tag him constantly with in/out combos.
So lets have it bigger advantage is??? Do you agree with me that Pac's speed would be a bigger advantage or is it still Cotto's weight advantage??This is assuming they fight at a 145 catchweight which is the lowest Cotto has said he would drop in weight.
As long as Pacquiao beats Cotto to the punch, PAC wins the fight. Not to mention that Cotto's chin will be tested from the first bell. I got a feeling that PAC might win this fight by KO. Sad but true.
:Thinkingo
only a good counterpuncher like jmm or a fast boxer like pbf can throw off pac's speed and timing.
but it's not only pac's speed they have to contend with. the intangibles like his work rate, relentlessness and explosiveness from all angles.
Timming kills speed Makavelli You know that!!!!!!!!
Good luck trying to time what you can't see coming.

Yea the Clottey fight didn't change my mind because I think Clottey is a tough pressure type of fighter that all the welters would have issues with. No shame in struggling against a guy like that. I'm just interested to see what happens as the fight goes on when Pac gets hit hard and consistently. I think the shots from a bigger guy can be the difference in this fight,
No i mean i didnt change my mind because Cotto struggled because i expected him to struggle, Clottey is a very tough good fighter with a great defense. Its just that tough fights catch up to fighters eventually and i'm not sure how Cotto will respond moving forward if his body will recover as fast as it did before. And to your second point i can see Pac getting hit hard but i would be surprised if he gets hit consistently. If he does Cotto will most likely KO him.
Early in the fight i expect the speed (hands/feet) of pacman and cotto's timming and adaptability to play a big roll in how this fight would turn out.
Early on the hand and foot speed of pacman will give cotto problems. recently he hasnt been fighting exactly the fastest fighters in the sport (ie. margarito, clottey, etc.) ok clottey isnt a slow poke but he's not comparable to that of pacman or mayweather in terms of speed.
As it is already cotto has problems dealing with guys with speed...clottey was beating him to the punch as it is already (especially late).
If cotto doesnt learn and apply a good defensive gameplan of counters and keeping his gloves up, etc he's going to lose late in the fight cuz he might be able to dance with clottey around the ring but someone of pac's speed will just wear him out even faster.
thats going to be the key in this fight...cotto's endurance and defense. he has to have both because a good offense alone or putting all your hopes on stopping pacman isnt a wise choice of gameplan.
If cotto's endurance and defense improve in time for this fight then i believe he can win because he has the power, strength, body work, and size all in his favor...not to mention he's turned into a very talanted boxer (proof is his fights against mosley and the first half of the margarito fight).
thats my opinion...
cotto w/ good defense and endurance wins a either a close decision or possible late fight ko/tko (10th round or later).
cotto without good defense and endurance will end up either losing a big decision or getting stopped possibly.
Cotto can land punches on Pacman, whether Pacman is faster or not,the biggest question in this fight will be how Pacman handles Cotto's power early!!If Cotto makes Pacman fight backing up,then Cotto seriously has a chance!!If Pacman starts backing Cotto up,it's a wrap, point is both cannot fight backing up,so whoever is strong enough that night to back the other up,the aggressor wins this one!!!
Without a doubt the speed. Manny's gonna hit from all kinds of angles before Cotto has any idea where to defend from. I think the biggest issue are the way Cotto leaves himself open for counters where Pacquiao will fully take advantage of. He saw that on the night and it's the reason he's taking it. Possibly another easy paycheck? All depends how Cotto comes in on the night of the fight but I really doubt the size will help Cotto. Pacquiao sure as hell don't give a fuk.
Funny i think the opposite because of the wars that Cotto has been in the last year. I think Cotto's body would wear down the longer this fight goes while i dont see Pac slowing down. I thought the same as you though before the Clottey fight!

Early on it will be Pacs speed. If the fight goes into the late rnds Cottos size/power will play a big role.
