If Floyd Mayweather Jr. insists of getting the lion’s share of the money, Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum may opt for Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico as the probable opponent of Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao.
"Mayweather is taking the position that unless he gets more money, there will never be a fight, that's absurd," Arum told the British press. "Manny is the most sought-after boxer on the planet. If Mayweather persists with this position, a fight will never happen."
Arum said Cotto, who also fights under the Top Rank banner like Pacquiao, appears to be a more viable
foe most especially if he wins against Ghanaian Joshua Clottey on Saturday night (Sunday morning in Manila) at Madison Square Garden in New York.
"If Cotto beats Clottey that's just as big a fight," said Arum, noting that Cotto has a tremendous following
among the Hispanics, making a match-up with Pacquiao as sure box-office hit.
Pacquiao gets to size Cotto up close and personal as the Filipino will be in the Big Apple for the 84th annual Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA) awards on the eve of the fight.
Pacquiao trainer Freddie Roach said he prefers the brash Mayweather for Pacquiao over the other names being mentioned since he doesn't only commands big money but is the easiest to defeat compared with Shane Mosley and Cotto.
Roach said Mayweather is "fragile and over-rated" and Pacquiao will surely cut him to ribbons.
Mayweather, however, has a big test to overcome on July 18: Juan Manuel Marquez of Mexico.
What if Marquez scores an upset?
"Then, we'll fight him (Marquez)?" said Roach, who plans to convince Pacquiao to wait until the third week of July before making a decision as to who to fight next.
Arum said he will be compelled to move the Oct. 17 fight to Nov. 14 if Pacquiao delays his decision to name his next opponent, something Roach is comfortable with, saying he doesn't mind waiting up to December as long as it is Mayweather.
Meanwhile, Pacquiao left for the US via Northwest Airlines Friday morning to grace the BWAA banquet at the Capitale. Pacquiao, wife Jinkee, Canadian adviser Mike Koncz and lawyer Franklin Gacal boarded the 8:10 a.m. flight to New York with a stopover in Tokyo.
Pacquiao had initially decided to skip the event but changed his mind on the urging of his advisers.
Pacquiao, who knocked out Ricky Hatton of England in his last fight on May 2, could be back in the country by Monday or Tuesday although the Los Angeles Dodgers have booked him to appear for a ceremonial pitch on Wednesday.
Floyd has never been knocked out and his only official knockdown was a glove touching the canvas. How can you call Floyd fragile when Manny has been KO'd twice?
That's a good question.
there has been a lot of thread that will most likely be bumped after manny beats floyd. and a lot of posters making new accounts
No need to hide. If Manny can beat Floyd decisively, he will only get much more respect from myself and his doubters for beating a fighter at top of his game.
It will no doubt be a monumental achievement of historic proportions for Manny if can pull it off.
It's all speculative at this time.
roach is trying his best to infuriate floyd into taking the match.
Agreed. But he doesnt have to sell the fight by saying PBF is the easiest opponent because he knows damn well thats not the truth.
The fight planning Genius in Trainer Roach along with his virtuoso boxer Pacman will surely defeat Mayweather in a completely grandiose fashion. I totally expect another spectacular knockout similar to Ricky Hatton's is awaiting Pretty Boy Floyd. JAT
that "retard" has what 3 trainer of the year Awards? He get's called a retard every time and ends up proving everybody wrong. Sounds like the Floyd fans are Fook-an retards.
No one said he isnt a good trainer, but he is known for making ridiculious statements and predictions.

The reverse is also true my man. Hopefully we all get to see with our own eyes who the better man in the ring is.
where was pacquiao ranked before floyd retired? where was floyd ranked?
and even after floyd retired it was kinda up in the air who was the #1 p4p out of calzaghe, pacquiao and marquez
when pacquiao stops throwin punches with his eyes closed then maybe he can be considered #1
Why? Because stopping nearly the last 15 opponents he's faced hasn't been good enough? Jumping 3 weight classes in 1 year, 2 of those wins by KO? Utterly destroying the man that went 8 or 10 rds was it with Floyd OUT of his weight class? Surely that doesn't warrant P4P status. But fighting the weakest of the divisions does.
pac is the real p4p king that's what!

LoL @ u guys who once again laugh at Roach's remarks. I guess you haven't learned shit after Manny's last 3 fights. All of which Roach predicted nearly perfect outcomes. Roach knows his shit. He's already fought Mayweather once with an incapable fighter and still managed to get a SD L out of it. Pacquiao makes Floyd his bitch.

Interesting. Is there a link to article?
Sad this fight will not gonna happen because the P4P #1 King of Chickens and Ducks as usual will do all his power to avoid the fight that he might lost. Unless he grows some balls....if he beat JMM, he will just proudly say I beat the man who beat him twice so theres no point of fighting him. If he lost then he will just retire again and disappear forever. Trust me:wave:

To be honest I can really care less if this fight happens. Give me a Cotto Vs Pacquiao or Mosely Vs. Pacquiao at catch weight of 144 and I think these 2 fights are better then a Mayweather fight. There easier fights to make and it's less drama and Bullsh*t! Mayweather ant going to budge so fuuk it...Go with Cotto or Mosely. Mosely is more then willing to wheel and deal and Cotto shouldn't be a big problem either.
Mayweather better realize he's been out for 2 years and things change. He can't just come back and demand a 40/60 split to the Pound4Pound best fighter in the world and think that's going to fly. Pacquiao is the man right now and he deserves the lions share. If Mayweather can't except that then he can go fight another cherry picked oppnent.
If getting gift wins over JMM...cherrypicking the sorriest lightweight...and a pair of Mayweather's LEFTOVERS makes you fighter of the decade...then that's just one big joke.
Yea Mayweather "destroyed" his opponents in his wins over DLH (split decision) and Hatton (10th rd KO). LEFTOVERS Lmao what a joke!!!!!! Hell the ringpost did more damage on Hatton than Floyd himself!
all that arum really wants is to cash in on Cotto and Manny before both lose again. Especially before they both lose to Mayweather. He wants a winner from them to make some money before that guy fights Mayweather.
....I talk to two different people, one on here in PM, and another on an international call, both of them said an entire section of west london was shut down while he was there. I believe them over you.
Why would you believe them over me?
