If this fight gets made and Miguel Cotto wins either by KO or UD, would you give Miguel Cotto credit for the win or say that Margarito was damaged goods from the Mosley fight?
Why didnt Tony's plaster effect Clottey and Williams.?????????????
Clottey didn't even look like he had been in a fight.
It makes sense that he started loading after the Williams defeat, in which case only Johnson, Cintron and Cotto would have been the victims.
So you are telling me Clottey punches harder than cement boy? Not sure where you are getting that from because Clottey dosen't have a KO in 4 years (facing crap competition) so he most defenetly dosen't have more power than Margacheato.
I think it has alot more to do with the fact(as you had stated in your last post) that Margarito throws alot more punches, if Margarito had plaster against Cotto and landed 270 punches, all but 30 power punches then Cotto should be dead. But as I was saying when it comes to one punch power, it seems Clottey puts a little more pop in it, not much mind you, but a little.

Yes... Cotto would get the credit..........No Excuses...
I take it you've seen the Mosley fight? He started pressuring and then he started to move and counterpunch effectively midfight.
This was 2 skilled boxers trying to outbox each other, Cotto had better timeing then Mosley but was still pressuring. You make a very good point though, I had forgotten about the Mosley fight.
but i've never seen him really on anything else or change his gameplan midfight.

If Cotto won by KO, I'd understand cats sayin Marg was damaged by SSM cuz Cotto couldn't even make him blink before. If he simply outboxed him, nobody could question it tho. Either way, I hope they fight again, wit no controversy.
He only fights one way? You have not been watching Cotto fight that much then, he almost always fight different in his fights, if you look at his fights at Jr. Welterweight he was really versatile, in some he boxed the shit out of his opponents while slowly breaking them down (Bailey, Abdulavev, Maussa, Branco etc.) in others he just plain went in to destroy the guy (Torres (although sloppy gameplan being Torres was the harder puncher), Malignaggi, Pinto, etc.). In welterweight it has been the same but he changes his gameplan in the same fight you can see him pressuring sometimes and then outboxing, the only fight he did not do that was Margarito, in which he kept with plan A all through the fight even when that was not working.
I've seen most of the fights you've mentioned(not all) and still see the same fighter, I'm not trying to knock Cotto, I think he's a very good fight but the fact is even though he can outbox fighters his style is always to move forward or circle, he has great boxing ability and sets up his shots well and it has defeated almost all of his opponents, but i've never seen him rely on anything else or change his gameplan midfight other then resting from time to time.
If Clottey comes with the same gameplan as Margarito Clottey will gas out pretty quick. Clottey is not that tipe of 100 punches a round fighter. He is a guy that keeps his hands up a lot and throws very few punches per round.
If Clottey even tries to do that Cotto will win TKO before the 8th round.
True I dont think he'll be throwing 100 punches per round but he does pressure well and I think his power is better then Margs. He's gonna give Cotto trouble and at least for me Cotto is gonna have to show that he's learned from the Margarito fight.
If he beats Clottey with a better gameplan then i think he just might be able to take it to Marg, cause i think Clottey is gonna come with the same gameplan. The only thing is I've been watching Cotto fight for a while and he only seems to fight one way, if he changes it up and shows improvement against Clottey then he'll be back on top and possibly ready for Margarito.

Yep, and he was also hammering Marg's body which took it's toll. Another thing Cotto didn't do. Cotto fought with a really stupid plan though and if he comes up with a more sensible strategy next time I think he'll get the win. I hope he gets a world class coach after the Clottey fight.

True, Mosley was fighting very well while going back and what i really noticed was that Shane was using very good head movement and throwing from different angles. In a rematch i still see Margarito winning this.

He couldn't keep Mosley off because Mosley's chin is alot better than Cotto's, and Mosley also has also more power. Margarito is still a bad match-up for Cotto, loaded gloves or not. Mosley wasn't getting hit nearly as much as Cotto because he did the one thing Cotto refuses to do.....clinch!

the reason those bombs didnt faze him was because he was backing up and getting hurt by margs punches. when marg fought mosley the 1st few rounds he was smiling and coming forward when mosley tagged him too but the difference was he couldnt keep mosley off without his secret weapon. cotto by ko or wide ud

Depends how bad Margarito looks tbh, if Cotto KO's him it will suggest he is damaged goods because he landed bombs on his chin and didn't fase him in the first fight. I think Cotto wins a decision even if he isn't shot.

Definitely credit to Cotto. How can he not deserve it? I would love to see the rematch regardless of the outcome.:boxing:
