Ricky Hatton was "the man" at 140. This was never ever EVER the case, and looking back at it, i dont see how anyone would think so. So lets look back.
The myth starts on june 4, 2005, when ricky out worked an 100 yr old kostya tszyu, and won a title at 140.
Then, he went on to ko carlos maussa in 9 (victor ortiz did this in 1)
Next came Juan Urango, who manny ppl think beat hatton up, and forced him to box instead of brawl.
Then hatton moved up, got knocked out, moved back down, got scuffed up by lazcano, beat paullie, and got ko'd by his first real challenge at 140.
So how the fucking fuck has hatton ever been a kingpin of ANYTHING?!?!?!?!?!?
Despite who the message is coming from, it doesn't matter there intentions behind it. But about Hatton it is truth he's not the most skilled fighter and didn't really beat legit threat @140.
no ever said he was the most skilled fighter, u dont have to be the most skilled to be the best.
not to mention the tomato cans he fought for 38 fights prior to the tszyu fight.... hatton wasnt the lineal champ. floyd was. he fought more opposition is his three fights than hatton did in 40.
Beating Artuto Gatti does not make you 'the man' at 140.... in fact, if that was the case, Mickey Ward was the man there too once upon a time. Shiiit.
Hatton is a bit like a real lif Rocky Balboa, if Balboa sounded like ashley off coronation street, was 140lbs and had no chin!
Hatton may not have the best chin, but its far from glass. Not many boxers could take that many power shots flush from Pac in two rounds and the shot that KO'd him would have KO'd anyone if caught in the way Ricky did.
Ricky is a good fighter and was one of the best at 140.
He lost against the P4P #1 in Pacquiao because of his stupidity on the night. The big occasions get to Ricky and he played into Pacquaio and Roach's gameplan.
He's a tough guy to beat when he's at his best, so just because he got caught cold in 2 rounds by fighting stupid, doesn't mean he wasn't a top guy at 140.
Ricky Hatton !!!

I just spat my tea out laughing at that! So true!
shane moved up from lightweight to fight de la hoya. this happens all the time.
Its happened before not all the time...
There was a laundry list of fighters for floyd to pick from and he picked one not on the list
yeah but manny wasnt a welterweight when he fought him.
Floyd right now is a very heavy favorite to beat jmm... if floyd fought shane floyd would prob be favored but shane would have a very good chance of winning the fight

I dont know why you feel sorry for Hatton, he got paid millions to go out and make himself look like a prat.
Anyone remember this? "Bet the house on me, I PROMISE you wont be dissapointed" and what does he do?
"DUUUUUH ME walk straight into punches with me hands down and not move me head and this is not dissapointing me fans duhhhhh i hope they taped coronation street for me duhhhhH"
Didn't saw this kind of sentiment pre-Pac/Hatton
personally, jmm is a better win than mosley in my eyes. beating mosley doesnt get u any respect, ANY! look at cotto's situation....
manny gets hella props for his fights with jmm.

That's cool, raines, go ahead and disagree man, it's only my opinion. But regarding Urango, that guy is a tough SOB, he can take a good punch and he hits pretty hard himself. That's the reason he didn't crumble. Malignaggi also takes a good punch (see the Cotto fight) but the intensity Ricky brings gave him a rough night.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not even a Hatton fan, but he does deserve more credit than he's been getting recently.
but y does he DESERVE so much credit. il give him the benefit of the doubt and say he beat 45 fighters with only one loss, but as far as the skil set of those fighters, he gets no props from me
wait wait wait...... juan urango isnt skilled, and he didnt crumble at ALL. i have to disagree my friend

Manny didnt get credit for oscar's win while mayweather did
shane is a juicer so he shouldnt get his fight..... and dont even try and claim a fight with jmm gets more money then a fight with shane
Ricky was "damaged goods" for manny...

Ricky is nowehere near as bad as some are making him out to be. He takes too much shit since he lost to Manny. MP is just on another level, as is Mayweather.
Technically, Ricky is lacking, but he kinda makes up for it in other ways. He was hard to deal with and you had to be skilled to not crumble under the kind of sheer pressure he brought. I give props to Hatton, he gave it his all and at least wanted the biggest fights and fought the biggest threats. How can anyone hate on that?

okay ur wrong and im right. oscar has a great resue. there is no disputing that. shane had his shot and blew it. ricky was a hypejob. period

Using nitpicking theories like that, you could make even more of a case that Floyd was never the man at 147.
even tho he beat two different champs to unify before the likes of cotto and clottey were major? right.......
