If anyone has noticed, since the death of Exodus Tyson yesterday, there has been very little media attention associated with this tragedy. While I'm sure Mike prefers it that way, I can't help but notice a stark contrast in the media's coverage of the events. It is as if Mike Tyson's actions as a human being have trickled down and consequently lessened the tragedy that is his daughter's death.
Jett Travolta died of a seizure. He had a history of seizures and though his death was unexpected, it was certainly not "lightning striking", by any means. In comparison, the death of Exodus Tyson was very random and by all means a shock to everyone. Not only was she younger, but she died in a much more astonishing fashion.
However, with that said, Mike Tyson is known as a "bad guy" and Travolta is known as a "good guy". Because of this distinction the public and the media view the deaths differently. Jett Travolta gets All Access Hollywood specials and Exodus gets the back page. It really gives some perpective on how we are viewed based on who we are associated with.
If the situations were reversed and Jett Travolta had been the one wrapped in an electrical chord, the media would be in mourning and we wouldn't stop hearing about it for a month. But because Exodus is the son of a convicted rapist and all around "bad guy", her death is minimalized and pushed into the last line of the news as a "nice to know".
How is one child's death more relevant than the others? They're not, it's just the media and public perception. Exodus Tyson was just as innocent as Jett Travolta and deserves the same respect he was given.
Rest in Peace, both of you. Equally.
Well, if someone died in my family or something it wouldn't even be on the ****ing news because I'm not a celebrity. Racist my ass, millions of kids die every day and most of them don't even make the news and yes in freak accidents. I'm sorry that happened to tysons child, but the media should keep their noses out of family matters.

very enlightening post.... great point
didnt even think of it but this is all very true
I wanted to clear a few things up here.
I never intended this to be a race driven thread, nor did I imply anywhere in my post that race was the reason the stories were covered differently.
However, if you can't admit race plays a part in media coverage, you are simply wrong. Again that has nothing to do with what I'm saying here.
I also never said I wanted more coverage of the death of Exodus Tyson. I'm sure Tyson prefers it that way, and honestly I do too. I don't need to hear all these stories about a child's death like that.
The way they covered the Jett Travolta death was terrible and completely misguided. Exodus Tyson and her family are better off and we are better off without that sort of coverage.
What can't be ignored though, is the fact that because of who Mike Tyson is. There are people out there that honestly believe that Mike is getting what he deserves. That is a sick and disgusting thought.
I didn't mean to offend anyone at all. Excuse me if I did.
The media in the United States of America is a joke. Seek your own news independently.

There's been plenty of coverage. I've seen it on CNN, FoxNews, MSNBC, and even on the ticker at CNBC when the market opened this morning.
And for those saying its a race thing, cmon. Sure, maybe the mainstream media thinks of Mike as somewhat of a B-list celeb these days, but if it was Tiger Woods, or Michael Jordan, or Denzel Washington, or 50 Cents kid, it would have still been all over the 6 O'clock news. And last time I checked, they are black too.........
Its been on Fox News alot. Plus you have to remember that people love Travolta (for whatever reason) and he is on Opera all the time which is the same audience that the media is looking for when they run the dead child stories. People dont like Mike so much. Im heart broken for the guy and like Mike, but dont be so fast to label every god damn thing racism. It's a useless crutch.
I see who's story you chose to believe. I personally belive the stoned confession, the bitch got too drunk, they probably raped her, they thought she was dead, so one of the guys when to one of his friend's that lived next to a lake or some body of water, and he paid him to get rid of her (AKA dump her in the middle of the ocean).
That sex slave triangle bullshit is all because of Dr. fuc.king Phil.
Dude they said she died from Blazing some herb.
lol @ seizure. That's a load of shit. They're liars.

There's more black people in America than White people? Discounting Latinos.
Your president is black for **** sake, stop pulling the race card.
The U.S. population's distribution by race and ethnicity in 2006 was as follows:
* Total population: 299 million
* White alone: 74% or 221.3 million
o Not including the 23.2 million White Hispanic and Latino Americans: 66% or 198.1 million
* Hispanic or Latino ethnicity, of any race: 14.8% or about 44.3 million
* Black or African American alone: 13.4% or 40.9 million
* Some other race alone: 6.5% or 19 million
* Asian alone: 4.4% or 13.1 million
* Two or more races: 2.0% or 6.1 million
* American Indian or Alaska Native alone: 0.68% or 2.0 million
* Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander alone: 0.14% or 0.43 million
White or Black or Not.
Natalie Halloway's case is sensational. She was kidnapped overseas and sold into a sex slave triangle then killed for snuff.
Has nothing to do with race. That's shocking shit.

Don't be so stupid.
Welter, why are you grading the death of a child?
The simple fact is the parents. That's the only reason a child's death will appear in the media.
Travolta being one of the biggest movie stars from America.
And I'm sure it will get it's fair share of coverage in days to come.
I was not grading the death of a child.. The OP asked a question about race.. I am countering with celebrity status.. Celebs are rated by the Grade system.. The higher the grade .. the more PRESS anything to with this person will be.. REGARDLESS of color.. Think I am kidding? What if Denzel Washington's Child died?? what about Sam L Jackson's?? How about Will Smith's?? Think the media might go a little more apeshit???
There's more black people in America than White people?
No there are not. You obviously don't know the demographics of the US. If you don't know about it, you should not comment on it.
Why would you even give a sh!t to begin with?
Do you nothing else better to think about, other than stirring up racial matters you know nothing about the hidden details?
When did plastering your kids death all over TV mean RESPECT?
It was actually a very nice, intelligent and open conversation up until this point and other race baiting comments posted recently
*sigh*
Race is still a big factor in the media today and I admit that most news outlets seem to focus often on suburban white America as opposed to the poor or black of the country.
In the case of Jett getting more media attention than Exodus, though, I think placing the reasons squarely on race is, in itself, a bit nieve. Jett Travolta died in very mysterious circumstances- try to remember they weren't sure exactly what happened. As tragic as Exodus's death is, we know it was almost certainly accidental asphyxiation from a cord hanging near a treadmill she was playing with. The media jumped on the Travolta story partly because of the circumstances of the death.
Coupled with that, like someone said, I think John Travolta has a more favorably viewed career at this point. Tyson was an athlete, who is given attention due to his athletic pursuits- which have long since been over. John Travolta continues to appear in movies and shows from time to time, and manages to thus stay relevant.
Boxing is less popular than the movie industry, and John Travolta is currently more relevant in the area that made him popular than Mike Tyson is.
To me, even if race is a factor in this case, it's by no means the leading or contributing cause to the lack of coverage.
What is funny is I have seen news Of Exodus all over the place, but I have never heard of Jett Travolta and just now learned it was John Travolta's kid that died.
Seemed to be the opposite here.
