IMO prime tyson was on his way up and probably when he unified the HW division..
Cuz died quite early on so wudn't say prime tyson was then, but i'd defo say he started slipping once rooney was fired, it was his viscious combo's, power, speed n conviction which makes me believe at his best no one could beat him...boy if cus had lived i think he wud've just defended the whole HW division 20 times n retired undefeated ;P :boxing:
Whose fault was it that Rooney left or was fired? I heard King wanted to replace his training team, but also Tyson was just growing to be an asshole and Rooney could no longer contain him. I know Cus was like a father to Tyson and tyson was at least obedient to him, but Rooney wasnt that same type of figure to him. Either way I know that dickhead King wasnt helpful at all in the situation.
I'm not sure what was going on between the two but from an outside perspective...I put the blame on Tyson for making the wrong choice(s). He chose others over his trainer. A trainer that was linked to him before he was "IRON MIKE TYSON" and the man that helped guide him to the title.

So pretty much everyone says spinks fight or when cus died?
Last Fight with Rooney; Last fight at his best.
Whenever he put on the black shorts and black shoes seemed to be when he was comfortable as a fighter. Forget which fight was the fight he first had both black shorts and black shoes and stuck with it throughout.
I would say this fight was for sure the beginning of what we now label as his prime. It was a big confidence being the Champion as well and he would continue to mature.
he went on the road down,
after gus died
After he left Rooney. Cus was dead by the time Tyson won the title. Maybe some of the motivation dropped but Cus was still used as a motivational tool to keep Tyson trained and motivated to stay on the road to unify the title. The next hit to Tyson was said to be the death of Jacbos. And then of course the final blow was when King came in and Tyson seperated from Rooney.
PEAK: Spinks fight.
Prime: Berbick to Spinks.
It still is a bit weird that we have to label a fighter in his prime at 20-22 years of age...but that's on Tyson for screwing up.
When was Tyson in his prime? Which fight would you define as to when he reached his peak?
My definition is on his way up to the belts. Once he became undisputed he had nothing more to achieve and felt like the top Dog.
Still doesn't mean he was un beatable during those days. styles make fights and if you backed up, he'd beat you (you couldn't run forever from Mike) if you were stronger than him and stood your ground, you had a good chance of beating him.
Ruddock nearly beat him using this method, guys like Mitch Green gave him trouble (well, not trouble, but went the distance) doing this early on in his career.
If you back pedalled or couldn't overpower him, you died because he was good at anticipating counter punches. Holmes, Spinks, Berbick, Bruno, Tucker
Holyfield was particularly strong and would most likely have found a way to beat a prime Tyson as well. Lewis would have lost IMO. Guys like Foreman would be huuge trouble..although there aren't many like George, other than Riddick Bowe.
