11 1/2" for Marquez to 8" for Mayweather. Hand size is a contributor to punching power. This may partially be the reason Marquez has been able to carry his punching power to the Lightweight division so well. In his only two fights at 135, JMM was able to KO Casamayor and Juan Diaz, who had never been previously knocked out. This is very meaningful, given that Marquez was coming up in weight and spent the vast majority of his career at Featherweight.
Given all the shit I just mentioned, do you all believe that Marquez can carry his punching power to the catchweight of 144 and be able to hurt Floyd if he can catch him with a clean shot (or two, or three). And remember, Floyd's been off for a year and a half. Just interested in your thoughts, that's all.

This is a great point. Nacho Beristain knows how to strengthen a fighter's punches. Why do you think that Ricardo Finito Lopez and Rafael Marquez have so many knockouts?
If you group the greatest punchers of the sport, the majority of them either have large hands for their size or very prominent knuckles. It's simple physics. Hand size has a direct impact on punching power, unless of course the person with big hands has no skills whatsoever.
I have really big hands and I didn't even know this was true.

Why does Mayweather look smaller than Marquez in that pic?
Also, I think larger hands can occupy more of your face. Resulting in a larger area of impact = greater KO possibility.
Like a bullet hole VS asteroid crater.
That's not even true.
Hearns has tiny littly hands.
He had tiny hands huh, lol. The dude is a 6'2'' black man. Now think about what you just said, lol. Tiny little hands, lol.
Seriously, Hearns had some mitts, hence his tremendous punching power.
I wouldn't necessarily say it affects punching power, more like punching effect. Imagine someone takes a swing at you with an 8 lbs sledgehammer using the same force as someone with a 10 lbs sledgehammer. The force will be the same but the damage of the bigger/heavier sledgehammer will have a greater effect/damage when it lands on your grill.
Physics, that's the point I'm trying to make, but it's impossible to try to explain it to these imbeciles.
Hand size doesn't matter, dick size yes.
Well i already fought with guys with big hands and they fought like pussies.
The most important is the skill with your punch and the speed behind it. Your hips and your muscles have a bigger influence on the punching power than the size of the hands.
Floyd will be more powerful, you'll see that the day of the fight.
Hand size contributes to punching power nonetheless. You are trying to find a way around your lost argument and you are only making yourself appear to be less knowledgeable. Your best bet is to quit while you're ahead.
Bigger hands? Flawless also says JMM's chest is bigger than Mr boat buyer. Guess we all know JMM is really a SMW. :boxing:
wrong wrong wrong
JMM bests pretty boy floyd in the EXPANDED chest dimension department
Also Gael Garcia Bernal looks like Marquez

Fres Oquendo's hands were measured to be larger than David Tua's....
But Fres Oquendo is a pussy and David Tua is a freakin' monster.
Don't ever compare a wussy like Fres Oquendo to Juan Manuel Marquez.
AND Don't ever compare Floyd to a freakin' beast like David Tua.
Thank you, have a nice day.
I was looking at pictures from the press tour and I noticed JMM huge bear claws.

Handpower is not a contributor for hand power you idiot. I've seen plenty small handed ppl.
wow the title and subject of this thread is a complete joke.....
"Marquez's hands are bigger then Floyds"
WOW so were Hattons....and a handful of other people Floyd has fought....
Hand size doesn't win fights....
impudent insects
Wow, you reek of Mayweather semen.
Marquez' legs are skinny as shit thought, I'm not liking that.
yeah thats not good, but with the extra poundage he will be putting on, they might be ok.
Power isn't something Marquez and his camp are worried about. Speed is where this fight will be won for Mayweather....
That's the biggest concern for me.
That's because he stayed in a division that prevents his body from thickening. His chest measurements are huge for the division he was fighting in and probably took up most of his weight so his legs were always going to have to be smaller; which comes from running and dieting. Increase food intake and lifting and his legs will thicken. He kind of reminds me of Kostya Tszyu with how thick his upper body frame was.
He could add weight with no problem with the size of his torso. I would even favor him getting stronger which goes with Freddie Roach saying JMM looked more powerful at LW which is why he scored the KO. Smaller guys like Hatton, who have a small upper body, shouldn't budge from certain weight-classes because added weight will just hold them back. To much weight/muscle on a smaller frame isn't good. But a bigger frame can move up. That's why you had small guys that were thick like Sam Langford that could jump up in weight with no problem. Not saying JMM is like that but he is a lot bigger than the division he was fighting in. But, it's getting his legs stronger that will be the key and at his age and his hormones will have to be proper running order which they should be considering he is an elite athlete and performs at a high level.
Marquez needs to thicken his legs. It would be smart weight gain as long as he does it right. I'd implement running A LOT of hills with a weighted vest. I'm in the Army and I've done this many times to strengthen my legs. My legs get thick fast and I don't lose any mobility or stamina, in fact I gain stamina. I would not recommend weights (for legs). Hope JMM has a good strength and conditioning coach in this camp.
