Like others have said I remember hearing Steward say he was keeping Hamed away from JMM because the fight was too risky. So basically their was better money fights out there for him. He knew JMM could possibly school him so they stayed away. If they were to fight back then I would pick JMM by decision. Hamed would have had a chance with his power, but Marquez would have found the openings all night long.

Marquez kills him, Barrera didn't even have a good right hand and he beat him. (a right hand is a key element to dismantling a southpaw) Marquez has an amazing right hand. No question he woops overrated Naz.

So was there ever negotiations to get those two to fight and what happened? Hamed backed out right? Hamed wanted to fight either of them for his whole career. But after the first Barerra-Morales fight that Morales won, everyone believed barerra had beaten him decisively (including myself!) As did hamed and alot of boxing experts, so Naz went for Barerra....... After Barerra beat Naz, Naz was intitled to a rematch as it was in the contract of the fight but he never took it....... I dont know what his excuse was. He fought Manuel Calvo and after the fight explained how he was in negotiations with Morales camp and how the fight was to happen in that year. Hamed never fought again

Marquez maybe prone to knockdowns but it is almost impossible to finish him, i dont think Hamed can do it.

Ur right. He should of faced JMM if he was the mandatory WBO challenger. But Naz was all about the glamour and showbiz of boxing. He wanted to boast about titles, not necessarily quality opponents. JMM was too risky, but i think if he was a bigger name or a champion Hamed would have fought him. I think Hamed could have KO'd JMM. He could have, but IMO he wouldn't. Heart is what makes him get up from all the knockdowns against high caliber opposition and it isn't something you get over time. He always had it so even if he got knocked down against Hamed, I see him getting up and continue to put clean counters on the little defense and bad balanced Hamed. JMM wasn't a serious contender during Hamed's pomp, he had his title shot and blew it against Norwood. The Hamed that fought Molina would have beaten JMM easily and probably a featherweight Pac too. You know it's a shame the WBA pulled the BS with Sanchez'z belt or Hamed would have had the full set. It was from 97 to 99 before the Norwood fight, he took that cuz he got tired of waiting for Naz. Its okay being able to hit Hamed. Do you know what happened to the most guys that backed him up? Kelly getting hammered to the canvas multiple times. Ingle rushing Hamed got nailed on the way in. Sanchez brutalized. Daniel Alicea brutalized. I dont think Bungu had ever been stopped before or even down, if i remember right. Tom Johnson shook up from almost everything that Hamed landed solid. How many title defences had Johnson had before that? Steve Robinson durable guy could not take Hamed's power.
