What kind of tools does he bring to the table?
How did he keep someone like Pacman at bay?
Someone who is faster then him...
I think timing is everything in this sport.
What is Floyd going to do, and what can Marquez do to take that away?
Marquez has a good counter right hand and an uppercut. What Floyd's gonna do, however, is make him look like a peanut when HE's going to be the one to make Marquez come forward at him. Marquez doesn't look good when he tries to force the action he needs someone to come to him so he can counter. So his best bet is to bait Floyd to force the action if he has any shot at winning this fight

 ...............
Marquez is more offensive minded now than he has been. He is also getting hit more than he used too. I think he is slipping as a fighter when it comes to reflexes and is concentrating more on the basics. It's pretty sad when the result of a slipping fighter is great KO's, but that is how I see it. He was getting beat by Casa and Diaz, so he is now stepping up more and sitting down on his punches
Yeah I agree....... good post.

Good points there deanrw. You might be onto something about him slipping, his reflexes and all.

I actually think we are going to see a fighting mayweather in this fight. Were going to see toe to toe exchanges from time to time but still a cautious boxing mayweather mixed in. Something about mayweathers interviews saying hes going to give the fans a great fight tells me he really is. Especially that hes going up against a smaller fighter in marquez that is moving up 2 divisions and that cant really do much harm to his health if they actually fight. But can he fight better than marquez? He has shown he can before but marquez has shown us what he has in that scenario. This is all IF this scenario does happen july 18.
Marquez can time the phuk outta Floyd. He's the best at it in the sport. And Floyd is ideal for it, since he rarely throws flurries.
Marquez needs to feint more and draw floyd in to throwing punches. How can you time someone who is waiting to time you?
Marquez is a great counter puncher with alot of heart. Marquez is pretty much the complete package besides his defense. He can be prone to be knocked down but he always gets back up and fights.
I expect him to fight on the back foot knowing that Mayweather is the bigger man, and is probably more easy to hit when he is on the offensive. ( every fighter is more open when on the offensive but you know what i mean).
I feel Floyd will be willing to go forward knowing he is the bigger man, is faster on his feet and has the quicker hands.
I expect Marquez to catch Mayweather coming in here and there but Mayweather's superior handspeed and footwork will mean Mayweather will be effective getting in and out of Marquez's range while landing effective power shots. If Marquez does come forward and tries to pressure Mayweather he will be countered all night, Marquez has no chance of winning the fight this way. Floyd is simply too good on the backfoot.
Although i feel Mayweather would beat Marquez at any weight i am not happy this fight is happening because the weight advantage for Mayweather is too much for Marquez imo. I hope Mayweather fights actually 147lbers after this fight.
He is in capable....
Im gonna throw this out there and you guys tell me what you think...
Is it possible Marquez was holding himself back by fighting at 130 at 35 yrs old..? Kind of like Cotto fighting at 140?
He moves up and knocks out cassamayor and Diaz at 135... he seemingly looks better.. Moving up in weight at his age may not be a bad thing.
Also the way he throws his punches he is very technical, so he is able to use his weight and turn that into power... kind of like the anti joe

Pac strikes and stands there....
I disagree.

Lol Yeah, I meant like, will Marquez look Gatti-like because of his inability to catch Floyd with counters? you know what I mean?
Marquez gets hit a lot, we know that much. Marquez is no speed demon with his hands, so i'm curious to see how he would cope with Floyd disappearing when he tries countering. Will he look like a sitting duck, who actually throws punches?
Marquez's handspeed is underrated... but it's his timing that's really impressive... you dont need speed if you have timing
IMO Marquez's only chance is to throw when Floyd throws
What do you want him to do? stand there and try to outbox floyd?
He needs to punch when Floyd punches... Timing.
And I agree.
But that Mexican Warrior comes out in him when he's hurt, or feels uncomfortable, and he doesn't throw back in a smart way, he gets wild.
someone answer post #25
I don`t think so. I think marquez was better at 130 than 135. I only think he was so aggressive because he wanted to go for knockouts and terrorize manny some more.
Gatti just stands there while getting punched, he tries to do his half assed version of the shoulder roll and seemingly makes it worse for himself...
Marquez fires back when being punched at
LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
ive thougth that before to (watching gatti geting gattid, tryin to "shoulder roll")
I don't know why but I envision Marquez getting Gatti'd while awaiting to counter but Floyd will be pot shotting with jabs to the body and staying outside while also identifying Marquez movements to time when to start throwing his straight right hands, thus staying at bay in the early rounds. Then unloading right hands while avoiding Marquez' counters.
As for Marquez, it's easier said than done but he's gonna have to time Floyd's in and out movement, Marquez is gonna have to let Floyd come to him because he is the better counter puncher, Marquez is. Thing is, when you let Floyd take the fight to you, the fight usually ends in TKO or corner stoppage because of the fighters inability to defend against Floyd's perfectly timed right hands to the head, and Floyd not being there to get hit or countered.
Marquez has the tools, but is he fast enough to catch Floyd while he's in his pot shotting rhythm? It's gonna be an interesting fight between two chess-type boxers with one having the better defense and the other having the better counter moves.

What I'm saying, is that when Marquez is out of his comfort zone, or if he gets a little shook by his opponent, his instinct is to fire back. And sometimes when he fires back, he gets wild. I'm saying if he does that against Floyd, he's going to get knocked out. If he gets hurt, or caught up on the ropes, he needs to clinch instead of just fire back.
We hear so much about Marquez's countering ability, and it is great, but Floyd's a great counterpuncher himself. If Marquez throws like that, Floyd's gonna hit him clean way too much.
That's what I'm sayin. If Floyd throws combos against Marquez on the ropes, and Marquez just fires back, Floyd's superior speed and accuracy is gonna get Marquez in trouble. In that situation Marquez SHOULD clinch, but he fights fire with fire and he won't. That's the problem I see for him in this fight.

You see thats where I disagree with you. in the middle of the ring it was absolutely no contest, but Diaz is a physically strong little fat guy, and even when he had JMM on the ropes he would be right up there with him throwing just as many, while landing the better shots. Hell It was either throw back or clinch, and JMM prompted to throw. I would like to see him clinch more though.
LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOO
that had me rollin
