I remember Vic Darchinyan made a big fuzz about the "TKO" win he got on his record against Nonito's brother, Glenn Donaire. He even promised to KO Nonito as a payback because his bro quit and got a TKO instead of a KO.
So KO is better than a TKO, right?
Which brings me to this...
Michael Buffer said that Pacman won via a 2nd round TKO against Ricky Hatton. Ref Bayless didn't even bother to count and waived off the bout. Was it really a TKO win for Pacman? Or a KO win like what BoxRec says?
Darchinyan made a big deal about the Glenn Donaire fight because it ended in a TD, I don't think he cares about TKOs and KOs as long as he's announced as the winner by knockout.

He also doesn't want TDs, UDs and SDs on his loss/losses too, and because he's special, it's not just KO or TKO, but KTFO! lol

I think they should update the rules, and make the referee decide if it is a KO or Technically a KO. A TKO is too bookish, the fact that the count doesn`t start or end at 10 is automatically a TKO is not realistic.

technically it was a tKO, but in reality it was a KO, and on youtube its a KTFO.
**** yeah a KO is better than a TKO!
You think the video game "George Foreman's KO Boxing" would sell if it were re-packaged as "George Foreman's TKO Boxing"?
Nah, it's a TKO... I don't care what the doctors or anyone is saying, it's the basic rules of boxing, if the ref stops it without counting, it's a TKO.
To answer the main topic, TKO is BOTH better and worst than a KO.
Take Gamboa as an example:
His fight vs Rojas, TKO KO.
Some times a TKO means that you punched the other dude so hard that it would be dangerous for the ref to count before bringing the doctors. Some other times a TKO only means that a fighter sucks and is taking too much punishment and the ref just stops it, that's the weak form of TKO.
Nope, its officialy been counted as a KO,they say the ref needs to count to 10,but Kenny didnt need to,he needed to get the docters in,i read in a boxing mag the state commition still counted it as a KO,because Hatton wasnt getting up
And i think your wrong about the Vic fight, the fight with Glenn Donaire was a TD,not TKO,Donaire got hit with a punch, but like a bitch cheated and said he got butted on his chin, which broke his jaw, which didnt happen at all,the ref agreed and said it was a butt and they had to stop the fight,it went to the scorecards,Vic was angry it didnt get counted as a TKO win, instead it got counted as a TD
My bad... It was a Technical Decision, and what mag was that?
I beg to disagree dog, unless the TKO we're talking about was the one that Pacman gave to Hatton. How many times have we seen refs stopping fights prematurely? I was so sick seeing these kind of premature stoppages, and there's a bunch of them that I can't even recall one, wait, here's some:
Manfredo/Calzaghe comes to mind, a heavyweight fight I saw got stopped in the 1st round and I can't recall the both boxers' names, and a couple of Gamboa fights I believe, and bunch of others, feel free to add guys...
You talking about the David Tua fight in 2000? A lot of people thought Rafa Vs Izzy 2 was premature, I thought Rafael should have got the benefit of the doubt seeing as he was the title holder.

This is correct. The Pac / Hatton fight end was unquestionably ended via TKO and not by KO in the semantic, official scoring sense. A "KO" only officially occurs when you are given and fail to rise for a full 10-count.
As stated above, neither are really any better than the other. They are equally meaningful.

Yeah that's right. If a fight is stopped by a ref and the fighter who got TKO'd can act stupid and say they were fine even though they were taking so many clean shots! With KO it is undisputed and Hatton got KTFO so it doesn't make much difference ha ha.
You'd think a KO is better, just cuz it can't be disputed. As for Pac-Hatton, it don't matter. Pac will have Hatton's name on his 'wins by KO' list, and we saw him truly knock him the fukk out.
I actually think it was a TKO. KO is when you go down for the 10 count and TKO is when the ringside dr or the ref stop the fight out of worry for a boxers safety. Kenny Bayless stopped the fight the moment Hatton hit the canvas because he thought he was in bad shape and probably thought counting to 10 would endanger him more (ie. swallow his tongue). So I think it was a TKO! Might be wrong though!

Yeah. I mean it stands for Technical Knock Out and the ref could have probably counted to 100,000 and Ricky would have still been out of it! It was a TKO by the rule book, but boxrec etc have it down as a KO for some reason or another!

That's how I understand it too. If a boxer can't beat the 10 count, that's a KO, while if the ref didn't even bother to count, it's TKO..

It was clearly a KO, ricky hatton was knocked out cold and looked like a dying fish on the mat.
Then Buffer made a mistake?
If that is a TKO, I would rather be KOed! lol
