Am i the only one who hates when ppl compare manny to Armstrong?

It is impossible to keep Manny out of top 50 ATG lists now. And 4 linear world titles in diff divisions has never been done before, so it's natural to compare him to a guy who was the first to win 3. Is this Flawless/Flawless./Malcolm/etc's alt # 5001?

Armstrong was just another old time fighter who fought countless toilet cleaners and roadsweepers (No offence to JCC). Pacquiao fights guys who have months to train for a specific bout In Henry's era they were just learning the art of boxing, if you watch the videos they all look garbage. Joe Louis was the beginning of proper boxing I agree with you here!! I have espn Classic & I'm watching all the boxing I can just to compare Pac with the Greats. For me, the start of modern boxing techniques starts with SRR. Then revolutionized by Ali & SRL. Armstrong was Great in his time but will be beat easily by Pac's modern technique. Even SRR was not that Good defensively but his offence was Good enough to dominate his era. Pac came into Mainstream Boxing with Limited skills but good enough to be a Lineal World Champ. With Roach refinements, today's Pac was so Dominating. If you can put the Modern Prime Pac in the 30-50's era, i don't think anybody there can beat him.

Manny is great and its not his fault ppl are comparing him but the guy is being compared to the second greatest boxer of all time when manny isnt in most peoples top 50. Henry had 3 belts all at the same time and people ringside said he got robbed from a 4th. When there was only 8 divisions. Thats like ivan calderon winning his division then beating vic,then beating izzy and juan manuel marquez. You can use your own translation,with any fighters or weight classes but please top with the comparisons. There will never be another henry amrstrong By the way he drank beer to gain weight...CHEA! there will never be another armstrong.. Why you ask? cuz even if you win like 8 world titles and go 51-1, you still wont be considered as good as the old fighters. For some reason, people have this mentality that old fighters, that were great, can not be matched.

The Media & the historians are the one putting Manny there with the Greats. That's a Contrast to Fraud who claims he's the best ever but you can only hear it from his own mouth. Why even make comparisons? Old fighters have the "advantage" of being born in a different era of the sport and modern fighters have the "disadvantage" of being born in a different era of the sport (advantage and disadvantage could be flipped depending on what you're talking about). When modern fighters accomplish something they're always compared to someone else and in the shadows of others (it happens everywhere, not just boxing). It's sad in a way. You can't blame them for being born in the year they were born and it's not their fault people accomplished things long before they got a chance to. It's also sad when old fighters that have been dead for decades get "dethroned" and lose their place in history. Why can't people just be great? :(

I think it's incredible what he has done. I just hate when they are compared im sorry. It's not his fault like nba players being compared to jordan. It doesn't make u less of a fighter your just not in that level. But it is incredible how he can go up in weight and still be as explosive. But Armstrong did it at just another level I'll add the circumstances of fighting then.....smaller gloves, more rounds, same day weigh ins. Its not the talent that will prevent us from seeing another Armstrong, but the rules we go by7 today. Boxing was much tougher then.

But the point of this thread is the comparisons with armstrong as what one poster said, what hank did, holding 3 titles simultaneously isn't possible today. neither is having over a hundred fights. the last one to do that is JCC, and that's because he didnt have an amateur career and fighting bums in his homeland up until his 60th fight probably. elite fighters today get to face the toughest competition early in their career. pac isnt anywhere near hank, but you cant deny the level of competition he had while moving up in weight. he isnt armstrong but he is the armstrong of today.

No one is saying he is greater than H.A. it was just a comparison in his latest accomplishments. With that being said, we hear you and we know. But the difference between one commentator and a few fans comparing him to H.A is a lot different then lets say Floyd saying he is better than Ray Leonard or any other legend he tries to say he is better than.
