Arum must be floating the combined US/UK numbers when he gloats about this fight doing 1.5-2 million.
According to an HBO PPV executive (sorry, no link as this was a personal conversation, but I hope you guys will trust this regardless), the fight did approximately 850k domestic PPV buys. HBO is still waiting on official numbers from Comcast before they can finalize a total, they have the numbers from DirecTV, Cox, et al.
Looks like it will miss the 910k done by Mayweather-Hatton...but a huge success nonetheless.
Just enough to price himself out. HAHAHAHAHAHA!
Now it's 50/50, I thought you stuck to 55/45. HAHAHAHAHA!
i said worse case for floyd would be 50/50
and how can floyd price himself out when he is a bigger draw than pacquiao?
Vargas would still be going if not for Tito. Tito ruined two of those guys.
Ried was going to get ruined no matter what, Vargas shouldnt have been rushed to tito, he did NOT beat winky wright, that should have been a sign right there, however people forget, Main Events was scared vargas would actually be in trouble with the law before a big fight could be made, which is why they went out of their way to make the fight happen. tito beat the hell out of him, vargas just needed a little bit more polish and he would have been fine, but he didint get that chance at got rushed into stardom.
think about how fast ried fell compared to the rest of the team. Look at vargas, david diaz, mayweather and tarver, and now think about ried. LOL

i was rooting for reid in that fight...im not gonna lie

damn!!! tito-reid had $7.3mil at the gates? that's crazy
That is not only crazy, it is AMAZING. Just a smidge below Trinidad-Vargas! And beating out much "bigger" fights. Wow, Tito was really something in his prime...
CUP,
I got similar information and created a thread earlier. So maybe that's corroboration.

Thank you for linking that. Sorry, I would have posted in your thread had I known about or seen that thread.
Also, you mentioned they are already shooting 24/7 for PBF-JMM...that's amazing this far out...I really didn't think they'd even do one for this fight, just a countdown show, but HBO loves Floyd and boxing needs Floyd (and I'm not a Mayweather fan), so it makes a lot of sense, especially building toward PBF-Pac.
(was there even a PPV in America before with 2 non-american fighters?)
There have been good few PPV's in the USA, were both fighters were both non americans. Here's a few
Lennox Lewis vs David Tua
Naseem Hamed vs Marco Antonio Barrera
Manny Pacquiao vs Marco Antonio Barrera
Ricardo Mayorga vs Felix Trinidad
Manny Pacquiao vs. Erik Morales
Miguel Cotto vs Antonio Margarito
1.4 million buys in the UK alone at 4 in the morning disagrees with you.
Nobody knew who ricky hatton was in the united states is what i meant.
Floyd was the AMERICAN draw in that fight. and Ricky was the British Draw in the fight. That fight prove thatt Floyd AMERICAN APPEAL WAS 910,000 homes in AMERICA...
you have to factor in nobody knew who ricky hatton was when he fought Mayweather.

Manny Pacquiao is not as big a draw as Mayweather. But that's fine. There is no shame in being the #2 draw in the sport. Remember, #2 is the position that Floyd held, commercially speaking.
The important thing to note is that a fight between them (Floyd and Manny) would be greater than the sum of its parts. Just like "The World Awaits". Oscar's previous high was 1.4 mil. And Floyd's was 400K. Together, they did 2.4 mil.
The reason that Schaefer and Goldie tolerate Floyd's antics is they realize that the same behaviours that annoy them, also brings fans in droves.
Mayweather will ask for - and get - the higher cut. But Arum/Manny will be smart and they will look at the dollars and not percentages. You can't spend percentages. Put the emotions on the shelf.
That was the mistake that Shane previously made. He turned down $10 mil for an Oscar fight to go get beat by Winky.
....and , guys, the economy has had VERY LITTLE impact to PPV buys. The VOD business remains robust.
very true....
but if Mayweather does 600k or more with JMM and Pacquiao only did 400k
you know Mayweather will justify so have the upper hand in bargaining
so EJ, you're meaning to say that PAC has equalled Floyd's popularity in America?
i dont know. you know im not crazy enough to say no just to protect some mythical status of my favorite fighter on a messageboard. Its tough to say because mayweather and oscar did 2.4mil together and pacs previous ppvs like the smaller top rank ones and the david diaz fight were nowhere near mayweathers numbers.
