I was just wondering on your opinions on how long left Floyd Mayweather would have in his prime or hasn't he reached his prime?
Do you guys rekon he will keep improving?
Leave your opinions on what you think. :boxing:
32 years old
19 months layoff
brittle hands for the past 8 years
I think it's safe to say that he is past his physical peak.
Skillwise there is not much left to improve.
Hopefully he is still hungry.
I think history shows fighters are always worse when they come back from a long layoff. Then it's time to compensate with brain and heart. The only two to do so with great success woudl be Ali and Robinson. It would be nice if Mayweather was cut from that mould, but I would not bet on that.
I don't think we can actually say where he is at in his career until he comes back. People that are mentally in their prime don't say what he said going into retirement. But he can get the hunger back like Foreman did. Physically, not sure where he is. We'll see with JMM but I think Cotto would be a greater test to show us although Cotto would be to soon after a layoff like this.
Floyd has the technical skills to stay around for a long time even as he declines but he'll risk losing fights when he may not have before.
I still think the fighter below 147 was better overall except the 147 version is stronger. Either way...it depends on how you view it. Absolute best can be seen as 100% while Prime can be anywhere from 90-100% (I guess).
Mental and Physical is key for "Prime" and both should be looked at.
Mr boat buyer is still in his prime and could fight at the top level for a while longer if he wanted to. Problem is he don't want to, so he'll just take easy $ fights. He'll never look to regain the WW crown like he should.
