That is a great fucking champion.
good... so finally you answered your own question. plus you earned points from us replying to your thread.
I dont deal with could have, would have, should have.
In 2006
The top 2 man in the welterweight division were
zab judah and carlos baldomir.
and Floyd Mayweather beat them both. before Miguel Cotto even came to the welterweight division.
In 2006
Miguel Cotto was fighting
Ricardo Torres at 140
Gianluca Branco at 140
Paul Malignaggi at 140
Carlos Quintana at 147 first fight.
So When do you think Mayweather vs. Cotto should have happen?
2007
Mayweather fought de la hoya in the biggest selling fight and boxing history
and then Mayweather fought and destroyed Undefeated Ricky Hatton and highest grossing non-heavyweight fight not involving de la hoya.
2006 : Cotto fighting at Jr. WW while Floyd was fighting Welterweights
2007: Floyd was Fighting Jr. Middleweights and making history. and defeating another top undefeated fighter.
i'm not one of those that hate on floyd for taking money fights with ricky and oscar. he's a pro. pros get paid.
it would have been nice if he fought marg or cotto after he had gotten paid.
but he didn't.
he retired.
now he's coming back from retirement.

Standing Ovation.............
not to mention Gerno never lost at 130 before he fought Floyd.
In my opinion, it depends on who he has fought to earn those wins, the quality of the fighters he has faced and the quality of fights he displayed.

me as a fan don't really care if cotto fights for vacant belts or if he has ever gotten a lineal belt.
1. miguel cotto defended those vacant belts against some of the best in the division.
2. mayweather got the lineal title at 147 from carlos baldomir. do you honestly think cotto wouldn't have beaten carlos baldomir if given the chance?

He beat gatti, baldomir, JLC, Judah, and old de la hoya. But then again at the time he fought them any average fighter could have beaten them.especially the four first metioned.
but then again... a win is a win... it's not Floyd Jr's fault that his opponent didn't had what it takes to defeat him, but for Floyd Jr to say that he's the GOAT and did not had the guts to fight the best is just down right shameful.
That doesn't matter because its easier to hate him than like him...
Floyd beats Cotto: "Cotto was never the same after Margarito"
Floyd beats Mosley: "Mosley is too old."
Floyd beats Clottey: "Clottey isn't top competition."
That's what is bound to happen.... Aparently, trashing Corrales isn't an acomplishment. Ripping Hatton in half isn't great. Beating ODLH at JMW isn't good. Killing Ndou(21 wins, 20 KOs) isn't great. Ooooooookay. Like the hating would stop because he faught those guys you mentioned.
so it's easier to defend fights that never happened than wins he actually got?
there's haters for every fighter. no matter what.
if i'm a fan of a fighter , i'd rather defend his wins than defend him for not fighting guys.

Is that a great champion or no?
Is that guy undefeated? LOL
The quality of victims in his resume is more important to me than the titles but that career you laid out can still be considered a great achievement for any fighter.
Cotto has yet to become the man in any division.
and has yet to become a lineal and ring champion in any division.
Pacquaio Has
Mosely Has
JMM Has
Ricky Hatton Has
Nate Campbell Has
Floyd Mayweather Has
What this tells me is that all those fighters put in the work to be recognize
as the man in their division no if and's or but's. Or could have would have or should have.
That why I say Cotto put the hardwork in and rise atop of the welterweight division and win that lineal championship and get yourself some history under your name.
Cotto is a good fighter. but at some point when are we as fans going to say to cotto stop fighting for vacant titles and go get the lineal title. and you do that by putting in the work. and winning the fights that mean something.

Um so? Its just as much as Mosley's fault as it is Floyd's. Cotto faught Margarito and everyone makes excuses, and Clottey was the easy route out. Seeing how Paul Williams was staring right at him.
Look at you trying to downplay good boxers just because "Floyd" faught them.
DLH was a great boxer, just not by the time Floyd got to him. Hatton was a good boxer, just not very good at 147 as was already proved by the time Floyd fought him. JLC was good, but Floyd was 1-1 against him. The guys you listed in the other thread, Corley, Baldomir, Gatti, N'Dou, etc, were you being serious?
No. If the fight was at 140-147 maybe but it was at 154, ODLH's comfort weight.
Comfort weight when he was old, but De la hoya best weights were under that. Mosley showed more ability than Oscar as the years went by. Especially at 147 he's alot faster than at being at 154. theres no doubt that mosley is better than De La hoya at this stage in their careers. Especially at 147.

if floyd had fought mosley one year , marg the next and then clottey the year after......
there wouldn't even be any anti-floyd threads. we'd all love the guy for fighting the best.
That doesn't matter because its easier to hate him than like him...

Floyd beat JLC, Baldomir, Gatti, Judah, old De La hoya for their titles.. Wow no won can beat them? Oh yeah Baldomir beat Judah, Gatti lost to Gomez, JLC stopped 4 previous times.
But not everyone can say they beat Mosley at 147 even if it was a close fight. Not everyone can say I fought a plaster man up untill 11 rounds. does anyone really believe Mayweather wouldn't have quit? He'd probally cried for Margarito to stop.

Who cares what weight it was at? Oscar was old and inactive, far past his best. If that fight at 154 meant anything at all, Floyd wouldn't be afraid to fight the top guys at 147. Hell, he even retired rather than face them.
Now we get to see Floyd fight a true, good WW. Well not really, a 36 yo, past his best guy who was fighting at 130 last year and has all of two fights at 135. Weeeeeeeeeee.
Hey Floyd, fight Cotto, Mosley or Williams, or do us all a favor and stay retired.
if floyd had fought mosley one year , marg the next and then clottey the year after......
there wouldn't even be any anti-floyd threads. we'd all love the guy for fighting the best.
Well if you're talking about Cotto, he fought 3 fighters that Floyd faced and beat all of them in more impressive fashion. He then fought guys Floyd didn't have the ballz to fight like Mosley, Margarito and now Clottey.
Um so? Its just as much as Mosley's fault as it is Floyd's. Cotto faught Margarito and everyone makes excuses, and Clottey was the easy route out. Seeing how Paul Williams was staring right at him.

Hey whos the one is making a thread trying to pretend a fighter is bigger than he is?
cotto has fought undefeated fighters and mosley who is a bigger legend than all the fighters floyd has faced. Margarito was an avoided fighter even by floyd. Mosley is much better at 147 than De La Hoya who floyd won a split decision. am I right?
No. If the fight was at 140-147 maybe but it was at 154, ODLH's comfort weight.
