Im tired of hearing "will this be another hagler-hearns" "people are comparing this fight to hagler-hearns". Hey yea thanks for that helluva first round. But the tired fellas only gave us 2 more decent rounds. Ive seen much better fights that lasted more than 3 rounds to hype fights up with, but classics(old shit) plays into peoples minds i guess.
I gotta disagree with u on this one..the first time i watched it, it was like wow..but watching the replays of the fight even made me realized that I just watched probably the greatest fight in boxing history..it doesnt get old..of course gatti-ward 1 still is my fav of all time..but this fight, 4 me, is in 2nd place :boxing:
Gatti v Ward 1 was a great fight but they wern't 2 ATG's. It is rare to see 2 ATG's both fighting at their best so this must always be up there. Will work out my list of greatest fights sometime, i'd be very suprised if Hagler Hearns doesn't make the top 10 though.

It is not overated !!!!
During the 80's, that was a hellava fight. I mean, two of the top names during that time and just coming out with a fury was a sight to behold. It didnt last long, but how could it with the bombs they were throwing. Maybe to all the people who were born around that time and after it didnt seem that great but to be old enough and to watch it that day it was a great fight. No Holds Bar
You would have had to watch it live and see all the hype to fully understand why a lot of ppl rate it high. It would be like Mayweather and Manny just going all out like they normally don't do. We'd be shocked to fu(k.
If you watch the fight objectively, you'll see that after the first half of the first round Hagler pretty much kicked Tommy's ass. Great match, but way overrated
Yep. After watching it several times I realized that only the first round was great. After that it was all Hagler. To this day, the best fight I have ever seen was Corrales-Castillo 1.
I've heard that every fight ever is overrated. Castillo-Corrales I was overrated, Carbajal-Gonzales was overrated, Hearns-Leonard was overrated, Gatti-Ward trilogy was overrated, etc.
I guess it has a lot to do with what kind of action you want to see. One thing that made Hagler-Hearns great is that the fight was hyped as a war between two great fighters and it lived up to it. A lot of times this doesn't happen because great fighters rarely get into unnecessary brawls.
You could say that Hagler got into Hearns' head because there was no way Hearns could have gone out there and boxed with all the expectations that the fight had.
Great fight but I guess it gets tiring when people hype every big fight as the next "Hagler vs Hearns".

Castillo-corrales was much better as well as Ward-Gatti
The suspense factor changes a lot of things. Hearns's legs went spaghetti late in round 1. His legs were rubbery the rest of the way, and Hagler took over. The cut provided a bigger danger for Hagler to lose than Hearns at that point, who was getting tagged with some consistency.
But this is after watching it a couple times and analyzing.
I didn't see it live, but those that did, I'm sure some viewers saw what was happening and that Hagler was taking over. But others could've thought "Hearns was getting the sh!t kicked out of him by Leonard in the 7th and later won the 9th thru the 12th, maybe he can do the same here....maybe he'll open that cut even more".
Not knowing the results changes the excitement level SSOOO much.
Even a fight like Mayweather-DLH, which is ridiculed all the time for its lack of excitement, didn't bore me when it happened, and I wasn't disapointed. Of course I had very low expectations of it so that helped, and I was drunk. But there was the suspense factor of a pretty competitive fight, so when I saw it, I was adequately entertained and intrigued. Now the replay factor.....that's a different story.
Same for Quartey-De La Hoya. 10 rounds of that fight was pretty sh!tty, but it was different when I watched it live, not knowing what would happen.
It takes a truly boring and crappy fight to not keep me interested when it happens live.
I watched it live, and was very exited before, during and after the fight. I was rooting hard for the hitman and felt great after that first round. After that my feeling was in a downward spiral as Hearns kept on trembling over Hagler's southpaw feet. After that first round it became quite clear quick that Hagler would win by KO as Tommy seemed to have lost some zip in that brutal first round.
That was my impression.
So much happened in them 3 rounds that far surpass many great fights that went to the later rounds. The fact that it featured 2 all-time greats slugging it out non-stop is why it is regarded so high.
It is hard to name the greatest fight ever, but Hagler/Hearns is among them.
If I'm just speaking about action/drama, and not the EVENT, these are some of the fights I rank above Hagler-Hearns.
Saad-Lopez 2
Saad-M. Johnson 1
Chacon-Edwards 2
Chacon-Limon 4
Ali-Frazier 1 and 3
Corrales-Castillo 1
Barrera-Morales 1
Carbajal-Gonzalez 1
Trinidad-Vargas
Sithatchawal-Monishpour
Gatti-Robinson 1
Pryor-Arguello 1
I always thought Hagler Hearns was a good fight but it is overrated when people call it the best fight ever, I agree that all those fights are probably better, I would also rate the 2 Bowe Golota fights above it as far as brutal action were concerned, maybe Bowe Holyfield 1 as well. Moore vs Yvon Durelle was another good one, There are a lot of fights that I have seen that have had equal if not more action in them but where not big events so get little attention, what about Mormeck vs Bell 1 that had brutal action in ever single round maybe not the same skill leve but none the less a great war. I never care what over people think about fights I just watch the one's that i enjoy.
Pettway-Brown was a terrific foul-intested fight. The ending sort of made people forget the rest of the fight, which was exciting. Tyson was unintentionally hilarious during that commentary.
"He is uncoherent".

Just like Ali-Frazier 3................. sarcasm.
Over-rated my ass:mad: GREATEST FIGHT EVER! if you don't believe it oh ****ing well....
Oh you must mean either Corrales-Castillo 1, Ali-Frazier 3, or Saad-M. Johnson 1.
That was an excellent fight. I actually liked Gatti-Robinson 1 a little more though. I thought the 9th round of Gatti-Ward 1 was better than any round in Gattt-Robinson 1, but I thought the sustained action level was more consistent in the Robinson fight.
i need to see the Gatti-Robinson 1..ive been hearing it before..thanx for the recommendation..:boxing:
