Straight up, I am Mayweather fan and yes the man has skills and an excellent team/advisor that helps to match up Floyd with the perfect foe.
I know there are alot of Floyd diehard fans on here and this is questions is directed to them mainly but anyone can answer.
As great as FMJr is, what does fighting a Marquez or a Pacquiao who both would be moving up from lower weights to fight Mayweather, do to his achievements. Does beating a Marquez and Pacquiao help solidify Floyds greatness? I mean seriously, these two guys would be jumping up in weight to fight Floyd. Floyd would solidify his greatness in my eyes if he fought legitimate WW rather then lightweights who pose at WW. Beating a PW, SSM, Cotto and calling it quits would cement his legacy. Not wins over Pac and Marquez.
As a Floyd fan are you proud of this?
Back to the topic of JMM:
Once JMM name was mentioned it was pretty obvious what Floyd was doing:
Minor reason:
Fighting JMM would be a good tune-up because of the size relation even though JMM isn't as small as people make him out to be considering we are talking about Floyd...and, JMM is a very good fighter ranked #2 P4P. JMM isn't a heavy pressure fighter so if Floyd does show signs of the lay-offs, JMM shouldn't be able to push him so hard that Floyd loses from being tired...which is a scary thought for him because a tired fighter in his position may likely quit instead of getting knocked out the proper way. Age, inactivity, mental questions at this stage........not good.
MAIN REASON:
Floyd wants "get-back" for Pac destroying Oscar and people making a big deal out of it. Floyd wants to take Pac's best win/draw/controversial as well, and piss on it. This way, it's calling out Pac to come and fight him and if he doesn't, well, he beat JMM in greater fashion. Of course, Floyd has to school JMM and KO him to finish it off...which might not be as easy as some seem to think it will be.
JMM should help him setup a fight with Pac and serve as a good promotion tool.
I'll bet Floyd will try to convince Arum so he can fight Pacquiao, but never Cotto.
Chances are, Pac will be put in with Cotto and if that doesn't work out because Pac demands Floyd instead, Arum will pull a Klitschko and have Floyd sign a contract to fight both Pac and then Cotto.
Which will actually please a lot of fans.
Good thread. Pac and JMM are the top 2 fighters right now, but Mr boat buyer beatin the top WW's does more for him simply cuz those guys are more of a challenge. Pretty simple stuff. Tough luch convincing his cocksuckers to accept that tho.
Shane doesnt want it.....shane only wants the payday and Floyd aint buying it.
I think Cotto wants to fight Floyd...its Arum whos messing things up....hes even trying to PUT cOTTO VS. pAC TO GET ALL THE MONEY FOR TOP RANK.
aRUM IS FOUL.
The second Cotto fires him...Cotto vs. Mayweather wil happen ASAP.
I feel that. Arum looks out for himself and his promoting company first. Thats why ive said and ill keep saying Pacquiao isnt ducking Marquez. Its Arum trying to milk Pacquiao and his fan base before he puts him in the ring again with a fighter like Marquez. Why split the revenue with GBP when he can line up Pac vs. Cotto and stage a big event.
Sure but we as FANS need to be realistic about what fights can be made..
Williams
People come in here and make fun about Williams not being a draw and not having fans..then turn around and say Floyd should fight him....umm why>???...He doesnt draw remember....so Floyd will not fight him..hell I want to see the otheres WELTERS fight Paul...Cotto hasnt yet and SSM blatantly said he cant beat Paul.
Mosley
After SSM kod Vargas and Floyd beat Baldi this was the fight that mattered....Merchant asked SSM numerous time why wont you fight Floyd?..SSM said he neede a vacation...he said he had a toothache and he said he needed to see a dentist......interstingly enough that following friday on Friday Night Fights he said hed fight Margarito in a heartbeat...Wait did I miss something...Shane is also 37 and past it...and the second Floyd is announced the winner EVERYONE will say well if shane was prime he would win or they will say that shane being old is the only reason Floyd won.
Cotto
Believe it or not this fight was offere to Cotto and ASrum at 140 pounds...THEY DECLINED.
Floyd went on ESPN and said hed love to fight Cotto......but that he wont work with Arum.....because hes a snake....further proof of that is evient when Arum says that Pac will get a 60-40 split to fight Floyd...ridicouous...he knows Floyd wont sign and will price Manny out.
I'll bet Floyd will try to convince Arum so he can fight Pacquiao, but never Cotto.
if this is true then hopkins should get no credit for beating tito and dlh.
Tito and De La hoya weren't the same fighters they were fighting at another wieight. tito especially came chubby to the fight out of shape, he doesn't know how to go up in weight with eating chocolate bars.
Sure but we as FANS need to be realistic about what fights can be made..

I would like to see him fight Williams but right now in FMJ career that fight would not generate huge interest PPV wise and this stage in FMJ career thats what he's all about.
Now if your statments about Cotto and SSM are true then I rest my case, those fights wont happen cause Cotto and SSM dont want them. But if either one wants a piece of Floyd now, I think Floyd should take it rather then coming back for Marquez.
if this is true then hopkins should get no credit for beating tito and dlh.
This response is just to the Hopkins part, being this is for Floyd fans I respect that!Trinidad and DLH,were solid wins but those are just a tiny part of the B-Hop legacy and in fairness to B-hop,he was the major underdog against Trinidad,Pavlik,Tarver, there is so much B-Hop has done!!!
Stop whining and crying if your a fan be happy the man is even lacing them up again..let him worry about his legacy...we just watch the fights....Floyd only cares about CASH...his legacy is sealed...hes one of the GREATEST lower weight fighters of all time...and a guy who went through 5 divions undefeated and was a champ in all 5.....and was lineal champion in 3 of them.
If your a Floyd fan like you claim then you realize hes been away for 19 months and is a fighter that relies on tiing...speed...reflexes..defense and accuracy thiongs that get rusty with inactivity...JMM is a tune up comeback fight.
Im a Floyd fan but him coming out of retirement to fight a Marquez (Pac i'll be ok with) doesnt really solidify his greatness IMO. Your a Floyd fan I can see, wouldnt you rather see him fight PW or SSM?
Im a Pac fan and I wouldnt mind seeing him fight SSM, FMJ, or Cotto to solidify his greatness, not saying he wins, but just the fact that he took BIGGER RISK?
if this is true then hopkins should get no credit for beating tito and dlh.
Okay then answer this, IF Oscar beat Pacquiao that night then he gets bumped up the P4P list? Thats what im trying to clarify, how does a bigger guy get much credit for beating the guy that moved up to fight him.
I dont think Hopkins is riding high or considered a P4P fighter for beating Delahoya now is he?
Oscars biggets wins of his career wouldbve been aginst FMJ at 154 who MOVED up to fight Oscar....and aginst a 147 pound Pac who moved up..those would be Oscars TWO biggest wins because regardless of weight FMJ and Pac WERE the WORLD RECOGNIZED 2 P4P Number 1's.
This is what boxers do..they move up and challenge themselves.
Floyd, Oscar, Roy, Shane,Williams, Hatton they all do it.
If JMM and Pacman the number 1 and 2 want to move up and meet Floyd at 143 or 140....then so be it.
Those would be two fo Floyds biggest wins...beating Pac and JMM INSTANTLY make resume WORLDS BETTER.
They both dont even campaign at WW but at a catch weight of 145 or below yea, ill give it. But really as a Floyd fan would you rather see him beat a PW, SSM, or Cotto?
Straight up, I am Mayweather fan and yes the man has skills and an excellent team/advisor that helps to match up Floyd with the perfect foe.

As a Floyd fan I want him to fight SSM, Cotto, PW, Clottey, and yes even Pacquiao.
Two or three of those fighters, but coming out of retirement just to fight Marquez and Pacquiao who both dont even pose at WW wouldnt be great to me.
Its like Tyson beating on smaller LHW or Cruiserweights to solidify his greatness.
If I had my choice, Floyd would be fighting Cotto but I also suggested he needs some tune-ups given the amount of time off he had.
If he wants Pac, it actually may be good to fight JMM for promotion which in return serves as a "tune-up" for some viewers. If he can fight at the level he once did, which to me is debatable on what level he was fighting at before he left, then he should beat JMM, and if he tries; possibly knock him out; thus setting up a show-down with Pac; who by the way just fought at WW himself. Knocking out JMM is something Pac didn't do and people even debate his victories so be sure for Floyd to bring that up.
Personally, and few seem to do it, I go by fight-time weight to determine size better.
It will be interesting to see what weight Floyd is around now and what he will show up as...as well as his overall mental and physical condition.
He can fight JMM, then Pac, then Cotto.
What would I have liked to have seen?
Floyd to have not retired and fought Cotto...and whoever else.
I think he may have actually been forced out because of the Pac vs. Oscar fight.... Just a thought though.
In addition: Pac vs. Mayweather would be a HUGE fight for the Sport. Of course, Pac has to get by Hatton which might not happen...we'll see.
If Pac loses, then it would be easier for the fans to push Mayweather vs. Cotto.
everytime he dishes out a boxing lesson should make any fan proud regardless who it is.
So Floyd fighting a Marquez and Pacquiao would solidify his greatness even though both guys dont campaign at WW?
