For fans only please. :)
What moment did you enjoy most in the career of Joe Calzaghe? Was it the first title win over Christ Eubank? The defining win over Jeff Lacy or was it simply just the beatdown of the all-time-great Roy Jones Jr.?
For me it has to be when he finished his career on top, by beating Roy Jones Jr., a great win by the way. Calzaghe was fresh on that night, he gave me one hell of a fight.
What's yours?
The Lacy win alot of people seen Lacy as the second coming and would beat calzaghe, and some people view Lacy as a bum and don't give Calzaghe any credit for the win.
Whilst Hopkins, Roy Jones, Toney, Winky, Tarver etc. were all facing the best, where was Joe?
Generally being avoided by Hopkins, Jones, Toney, Winky and Tarver. Who, amazingly enough, didn't fancy fighting a guy from Wales who nobody in the US had heard of, who might actually be rather good, for peanuts, for the WBO strap.
Odd, that.
I'd say the Kessler win was my favourite. That was an amazing fight and Kessler was another great Champion (like Calzaghe) unlike the mass hype that was Jeff Lacy. Although don't get me wrong it was amazing to see Joe make Lacy his bitch and ruin him all at the same time.
Come on, why'd you still hate the guy? Man, he was a good boxer, never backed down in a fight.
Er.. lol?
Dude, the guy was hiding Wales for 99% of his career.
His promoter Warren when fired said it all. All Joe wanted to do was pull of of bouts all the time.

Facing Mediocre Mandatories. Dude, the guy is a talented boxer, but don't kid yourself, his career is laughable at best.
i like joe i aint the biggest calzaghe fan but much respect to him and his accomplishments. but if i had 2 pick a favorite moment it would be when he and kessler fought for 168 supremacy in calzaghe final fight at that weight.
When Lacy would beat him...
When Kessler would beat him...
When Hopkins would beat him...
When Jones would beat him...there were a few!!!
The fact is, you can only polarize opinion if you are a great fighter. He was either loved or hated. Average fighter don't get loved, hated, or attention. I love it when somebody declares their contempt for Calzaghe. It just enforces the view that he is important enough to warrant somebodys hatred, and thus cannot be average.
Joe Calzaghe was a great fighter. I'm still hoping he comes back one last time, but I doubt he will.
I'm a massive Robin Reid fan way more than i am a Calzaghe fan and that fight wasn't close and teh only controversy was whether paul thomas should have been allowed to judge a fight again.
Robin himself say on the ring apron after the figth and said he lost comfortably.
The fact is Ried always went to sleep in the middle rounds and he was 3 rounds down on MY card and I wanted him to win.
Well I scored the fight 115-114 to Reid. With the point deduction Joe was lucky to win the fight
So you were one of the two reid fans at the Nottingham Arena then?Actually I was on board HMS Montrose in teh Med at the time, I watched it on VHS sent out by my dad.
Reid was pretty popular in the late 90's.
I thought the Lacy fight was a great performance.
Nah the Lacy fight was embarrassingly one sided. It was hard to actually watch. Joe did great but it was too hard to gauge how good he really was as Lacy did nothing.
The Kessler fight showed his true versatility I think against a top tier opponent.

THe Lacy fight, he would have taken a lot of beating that night IMO
His very very lucky, controversial split win over Robin Reid.I'm a massive Robin Reid fan way more than i am a Calzaghe fan and that fight wasn't close and teh only controversy was whether paul thomas should have been allowed to judge a fight again.

I don't like Joe C, but it ain't right to shit on the Lacy fight if you were one of the cats who thought he'd get KTFO at the time. I was, and I give him mass cred for that. 1 of the most thorough ass whoopins you'll see.
the jones fight, it was electric. all his career bottled up in 60 minutes of action. his whole legacy and undefeated record dependent on that one fight.
great way to bow out.
