Although no official word has yet been made, it is pretty obvious to most that Floyd Mayweather Jr. will indeed make a return to the sport. In a recent interview on FightHype, Floyd Mayweather Sr., the estranged father of Floyd Jr. suggest his son would be fighting Juan Manuel Marquez in a tune up bout in preparation for a fight with Shane Mosley.
In regards to things shaping up to be Mayweather Jr vs Marquez on July 18th, Mayweather Sr. told the online
publication: "Yeah, all he needs is two fights and he'll be ready for Shane (Mosley)."
Mayweather Sr. who is busy training his star pupil, Ricky Hatton for his upcoming battle against Manny Pacquiao on May 2nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, believes Marquez will be the tune-up fight. "Marquez ain't going to be nothing but a tune-up," said Mayweather Sr., who went on to add that Marquez is someone Mayweather Jr. will take apart like it was target practice.
In regards to Mosley, Mayweather Sr. stated as a fact that his son has way faster hands than Mosley.
Because losing weight just to put it back on again is a pointless charade. Floyd deserves a lot of credit for having to courage to call it what it is. He is the same size as Marquez, and there's no reason to abuse their bodies just to prove something that everyone should already know. They would kill themselves to drop weight and they'd both end up back at 147 anyway.
LOL at everyone already making excuses for Marquez, three months before the fight. The truth is that Floyd will crush Marquez for one reason and one reason only: because he's just that much better than him, PFP.
if he's so much better than him, why not fight at 140?

you know i agree 100% with jr will take apart jmm. juan diaz was hitting him with the check left hook all day
No, he wasn't. He was hitting him with a normal left hook. I don't think Diaz can even throw a check hook. You ever seen him move backwards?
Fight shoudn't happen. even if Marquez comes up in pretty good condition i cant see him winning. And if he indeed comes in good shape despite the extra weight it would only make us wonder if he would've defeated Mayweather if the fight were around the weight of 138 or 140.
Mayweather has speed and size to his advantage but he won't be attacking Marquez like Diaz did, he will give Marquez more time to develop a strategy. I think that Floyd wins it but it won't be a cake-walk either.
Same here, Shane is past it and people dont even see that.
LOl.. so would someone tell everyone that floyd and shane just came at the wrong time..
Shane had a touthache when floyd asked the first time..
Now shane will be too old.. And NO I didnt make that toothache thing up people It was real.. he seriously needed surgery or sumthin he said in an interview..
" shane is already past it " you guys are kidding me right ? mosely is past it like hopkins is past it. and even that i think is a bit of a streach. guys who are " past it " do not in consecutive fights do this :
thoroughly dominates collazo
loses close to cotto ( could have easily been a draw )
ko mayorga in 12 though the fight was close most of the way through
dismantles and dominates the ww champion in 9
I wouldn't even favour JMM against prime Floyd at 130, let alone at 144
The more i think about, this fight could get ugly, i'm not so sure Juan should box with Floyd but being the aggressor could get him Koed
Yea we are all gonna be impressed when floyd KO's a fat slow old JMM... very impressed... JMM was slow as **** at 135, he's gonna look like he's wearing cement shoes at 144-147!
so he needs two tuneup fights before he faces Shane? So he wants to wait till shane is like 39 before he fights him? good strategy floyd.
It sucks with Shane's age now but two tune-up fight is smart for any fighter that comes off that long of a layoff. I suggested 2-3 tune-ups before this article even came out but I thought that Floyd wouldn't go for that. One tune-up fight and it's a go is what I thought. Floyd's a fighter that wants to make sure he is at is best so he'll make sure of that with tune-up fights...but I just wasn't sure he would go with two fights because of where he is at in his career. "Best" as far as what he can get to now because he'll never be the fighter he was "at his peak."
The one thing Shane has going for him is that he hasn't been in brutal fights where it destroyed him and we have modern science/nutrition. However, he is past his prime. Floyd should fight Cotto if he beats Clottey. I wouldn't even mind seeing a Mayweather vs. Williams fight but I doubt that would happen.
Shane could have fought him before. If you get an opportunity, you shouldn't let it slip away. However, I've also said that at Shane's age, he may think different and need a bit more rest than others that are younger and may need to "feel" when is a good time to fight. Plus, many things can be happening behind the scenes that may affect things happening....
