This is long but a must read! Mayweather fans, stop falling for this bull crap. The haterz have got so bad that they have convinced a ton of Floyd fans that they have to feel bad about this fight. Thats bull crap.
In Floyd's WW fights he would weigh-in at 146 and come into the ring at 148. He even had to pot shot in most of his fights because the guys were so much bigger then him. Meanwhile JMM just KO a very very very good fighter in Diaz who was the best LW in the world and JMM looked physicaly very good in that fight. He's not that far off from Pac in terms of having a good body. JMM then called him out and now there fighting. This is not a tuneup. This is a real fight. By saying that its a tuneup, you will then be taking credit away from Floyd when that shouldnt be the case. Floyd is not Margarito, Williams, Clottey, or Cotto. I cant beleive how people dont care at all about Floyd fighting at 148 while those guys come in the ring between 162-170 pounds and one of them is currently fighting at MW. Margarito just got KO and his fans say that he was weight drained and should move up. Its a joke.
How come its so bad for JMM to move up but no one has a problem with Williams going to fight guys like Pavlik at MW after just fighting Quintana or Mitchell? I dont hear anyone saying anything about that. Infact they say that Williams should fight Pavlik and he's a punk if he doesnt. Are we all forgetting about the Mayweather-Winky Wright proposal? I think people forget alot about the facts. Floyd had just beat Gatti at 140 while Winky had just killed Tito at MW. Floyd wasnt even a big 140 pounder and had only had 3 fights at that weight but not one single person said that Floyd shouldnt fight Winky. They were way way way further apart in size then Floyd-JMM and still everyone said that Floyd should fight Winky. Floyd was a small 140 pounder and wouldve had to jump straight to 154 to fight a guy who had fought at 154 his whole life and just fought at 160. A guy who came into the ring in his last fight at 168 pounds while Floyd was 144 for Gatti. That fight was so fair but Floyd-JMM isnt when Floyd comes in at 148 and JMM at 146? Remember, its not like Floyd is going back to step 1. Floyd has moved up in weight a ton of times also. Tell those WW's that you brag on so much to move up and lets see how they do besides Williams. They wont look the same at all. People make it sound like Floyd is a 160 pound WW in his 1st division picking on little JMM. Get real.
Do you remember what alot of people said when the talks were breaking down? They actually ripped Floyd and blamed him. They called him a punk and said that he was the one that asked for the fight. Now JMM is asking for it but everyone is still ripping Floyd? Even with the size mismatch there were a ton of people saying that you shouldnt count Floyd out because he is a P4P beast. JMM is that same beast but he has no chance? Come on now, you guys are such hypocrites. Floyd fans, dont fall for it. JMM is the real deal. This is not a tuneup. It will only be a tuneup in the sense that Floyd treats everyone like a tuneup. How can you have a tuneup with maybe the best guy in the sport? Even still Floyd is fighting him at a catch weight when he didnt have to at all. Williams was just asking for Calzaghe to fight him all the way at 168 but JMM cant fight little Floyd? Did you guys see that AT&T commercial? Can any other WW look like that? He is a small guy but he's not going to sacrafice his future to appease JMM. For what? It makes no sense. The fact is simple. He's Floyd and whatever side of the fence he's on is the wrong side. He will always be wrong in a ton of fans & medias eyes. They despise him with a passion and he will always be the bad guy. He's a victim of his own talent. People penalyze him because he's talented enough to fight above his natural weight.
When did we hear Floyd ever say that this was a tuneup? The closest thing weve ever heard was a reporter who said they talked to Floyd's friend who told them they wanted a tuneup before Pac and everyone jumps on that. Even now you have half the media saying that JMM is the tuneup and the other half are saying that he was talking about someone else before JMM, not JMM as the tuneup. Floyd in no way will call JMM a tuneup. How can JMM be a tuneup for Pac when alot of people think JMM beat Pac both times and is the P4P #1 guy in the sport? Its getting redicules. Dont get me wrong, I think Floyd kills him but thats only because I think Floyd kills just about everyone in history if he fights at his natural weight. Thats what people are misunderstanding. He's so good that its like he cant fight at his natural weight anymore or people will rip him. Yet when he fights above it then they rip him for pot shotting and running all fight long. Now there saying that Floyd may have a tuneup before JMM. Whats wrong with that? That would be great for boxing. I think he would be trying to make the JMM fight that much bigger. Im just sick of the double standard that people dont even realize that there doing. When you have a shot to fight the 2 best guys in the sport then you dont hesitate on that because it may not be on the table again or guys may lose. You have to jump at it because you can fight the other guys anytime after that
Tito came back out of shape, with his last win, in 2004, he fought another old washed fighter, and they managed to get 500K+ PPVs
Is Oscar,Hatton(In the UK), Tito and the rest!!!!!!!!!!
Who was that? Mayorga wasnt washed up.
For his first fight back, Floyd's nit going to fight someone that could be favored to beat him (i.e. Williams) or someone who could seriously check for rust (i.e. Mosley). So, at Welter, he could fight a guy like Collazo which would be interesting even though everyone would assume Floyd the winner before the opening bell and the fight would generate so-so buzz...
...or he can come back in what can be built into an event againsta future Hall of Famer who will make a good show with the same chance of winning a Collzao type would realistically have.
I don't get the fuss. Events are good for Boxing.
Mayweather talks so much shit that people will pay now just to see his ass get whooped. But before he fought Oscar De La Hoya fans didn't care much of him. De La Hoya brought him to the map and those that got to know him from there on want to see him fight a worthy opponent in a fair fight.
Hey numbers are numbers. Its called A DRAW.
let me show you the diffrence between average floyd and fighters that are actually popular in America.
VS Zab Judah generated 374,000 PPV buys
Vs Gatti 365,000 buys
vs Baldomir 325,000 pay-per-view buys
Oscar Vs mayorga generated 925,000 buys
Taylor-Hopkins II pulled in 410,000 PPV Buys
Tarver-Jones III pulled in 415,000 Buys
Trinidad vs Wright In 2005 pulled in 520,000 buys
Shane Mosely vs. Fernando Vargas 420,000 buys
Morales/Pacquiao III - 350,000 buys
Morales/Pacquiao II - 355,000 buys
Tarver/Hopkins - 330,000 buys (06/2006)
Mosley/Vargas II - 350,000 buys (07/2006)
Pacquiao-Marquez 400,000 buys
Other than Oscar and maybe Tito none of those other fighters have ever been cosidered very popular in the US. Notice how Floyds PPV numbers finish in the bottom part of this list when he isn't fighting Hatton or Oscar?
Like i said before pretty fuking average!!!!!
Are you telling me if Floyd fought Tito, Wright, Taylor, Mosley, Vargas, or Pac you wouldnt bet he would do AT LEAST over 500K?
Obviously everyone knows Oscar is in a league of his own but Floyd is on par with Tito....
Put Ricky Hatton in a PPV with Carlos Baldomir and see if he breaks 200k outside of England.
Mayweather talks so much shit that people will pay now just to see his ass get whooped. But before he fought Oscar De La Hoya fans didn't care much of him. De La Hoya brought him to the map and those that got to know him from there on want to see him fight a worthy opponent in a fair fight.
Which means what? Again popularity in America doesn't mean more than popularity anwhere else and the reason boxing is so popular in England and the phillipines is because both Pacman and Hatton made it popular there. It's not like they were hot beds of boxing before them. Floyd is the exact reason why boxing is floundering in America. Because nobody in America wants to get behind a gigantic douche bag who beats up the mother of his children and can't go thru a single interview without telling the whole world how much better he is than the rest of us. Just because Ricky and Pacman's fan base is primarily in another country that doesn't deminish that they are more popular than floyd could ever dream to be. Seriously please explain why being popular in America is the only way you can be a popular fighter?
You keep mentioning PPV sales but you keep dancing around the fact that these huge PPV sales were mainly because Floyds opponents were so popular not the other way around.
Wow. WOW! You are blowing it so hard. Is anyone reading this? Hatton made boxing popular in england!!!
How is that so? Why did Oscar AND Floyd break the record? Why wasnt it with Mayorga? Why isnt Hatton even on PPV unless its with Floyd or Pacman?
Your argument has no validity.
That in one PPV Hatton had with Floyd he proved that his fans have made him as popular as Oscar was around the world.
I think some of floyd's relatives might have bought a couple of PPV's so i guess he cotributed.
Put Ricky Hatton in a PPV with Carlos Baldomir and see if he breaks 200k outside of England.
This is a tuneup. JMM has never fought above 135.
Mayweather will damn near shut this guy out on the scorecards. I give JMM maybe 2 rounds at best. Floyd is just a horrible matchup for JMM.
Floyd is a great fighter whos won belts at every weight class.
But the one thing he is NOT, is the best welterweight. His resume at WW is downright pathetic considering the amount of hype he gets.
Ive never seen a fighter fight at a weight and continue to fight at a weight but never fight ANYBODY relevant at that weight.
In Floyd's WW fights he would weigh-in at 146 and come into the ring at 148. He even had to pot shot in most of his fights because the guys were so much bigger then him.
So, what's the problem with him fighting at 140 then? He can obviously make it really damn easy and probably be much more comfortable there. If he's so much smaller then giving that tiny concession to a natural FW or SFW at most, is absolutely nothing.
He should be happy to go down to 140. If he's not going to and whine about him not coming up to 147 then he just needs to get moving and actually start fighting some real WW's and you need to stop making these daft threads that are pathetically sad.
Really he should thank Oscar for opening of fights that used to be impossible to happen.
Like Oscar said these fights were only seen in video games. Next time Mayweather will ask to fight flyweight.
Again how is Shane a big draw now when he has never been a big draw????? Even in his prime???
He did a lot with Oscar twice obviously since it's Oscar. He did 900k with Vargas two times. He's not a huge draw, but it's a lot more then the 100k he did with Casamayor. He did 400k against Pacquiao the second time and around 250k with Barrera. JMM isn't a huge draw and neither is Shane, but Shane is the way better draw.
My point is, if Floyd wanted a bigger fight with a bigger paycheck, he could have, but didn't. He didn't duck Mosley, just chose an easier tune up fight.
But then if Pac get by Hatton a Floyd/Pac fight would be "the super fight"? How can that be if JMM is a tune up for Floyd and at the same time Pac and JMM are relatively equal?
Because JMM is fighting at 147 or 145, not 130 or 135. JMM loses speed and defense skills and is not the same fighter.
You do realize that Marquez, at the same time Floyd was fighting Baldomir at 147, was fighting Jaca at 125.
This is the same guy that moved up to 130lb to chase Pacman, then again to 135lb to chase pacman. This is the same guy that was outsized by a small lightweight named Juan Diaz.
People can say size doesn't matter all they want, but there comes a point where it does.
135lb is too big for Marquez already, 147 is a joke.
Dude, Ive made that same argument about Floyd a million times and no one listens then. Floyd was at 130 when Oscar was at 154. In this thread I talked about how Floyd was at 140 when Winky was at 160 but everyone was ok with that fight and called Floyd a punk when it didnt happened. Pavlik was fighting guys at 170 when Williams was fighting at WW. Calzaghe was at 175 when Williams was at WW but everyone wants to see those fights. Also, Floyd came in at 148 against Baldy while Baldy came in at 165. That just further proves my point.
The size difference isn't that big, the mismatch is in the style...reason why I call it a tune up. Ofcourse I'll say it is a good win but really, I see nothing in JMM that could trouble Floyd
Yes, the size difference is that big. Juan Manuel Marquez has a 67 inch reach. Floyd Mayweather has a 72 inch reach. 5 inches in reach is HUGE.
Marquez barely has more reach than Ricky Hatton. This fight is absolutely meaningless with statistical differences like that.
This is long but a must read! Mayweather fans, stop falling for this bull crap. The haterz have got so bad that they have convinced a ton of Floyd fans that they have to feel bad about this fight. Thats bull crap.

Like i said before pretty fuking average!!!!!
You made my point. Im not stupid. I know what the numbers are and it proves my point. You yourself said that the guys Floyd were fighting were bums yet his numbers are just as good if not better then all the other fights when those were 2 super stars fighting eachother. I never said he was Oscar but he's the next best. You also have to remember that those fights happened when Floyd was basicaly a nobody. No one in the mainstream knew him that much at that time and he still put up virtually the same PPV numbers against so called bums as other Super Stars put up in Super fights against eachother. Thats crazy good. Then he set records with Hatton & Oscar. Now what do you think he will do after all that pub and with the mainstream now knowing who he is?
Also, stop keep talking about Hatton like he's above Floyd. He's the man in England but he's nothing in the US. Floyd made that fight. You can give props to Oscar but Floyd was the big man in the Hatton fight. No one knew Hatton in the US. Sure he has the fans but they come from England. Before that fight, if he wouldve had an HBO PPV card, no one wouldve bought it and you know it. Floyd sold that fight in the US, hands down
good point. why can't Mayweather have a tune-up fight against a nobody?
because he's sooooooo special he can't give an up and comer a shot, and give his fans a free fightnight on HBO.
i dont know im asking. what's the deal.
do people forget Jmm is number 2 on the p4p list?????
Am i ****ing missing something??
I never believed in those P4P rankings, but that doesn't mean you can fight at any weight class and much less compete with the best.
do people forget Jmm is number 2 on the p4p list?????
Am i ****ing missing something??
Exactly what i have been saying!!!! None of the other fighters floyd has faced have ever been that high on the PFP list except maybe hatton.
