In comparison to Hearns, i think Hearns hit way harder.
they're totally different fighters with totally different plans of attack the ony comparisons anyone can make to him and Tommy are in height (PWill is about 6'3" to Tommy's 6'2") and reach (Pwill's 84" to Tommy's 78")
Tommy attacked at all times using his superior outside attack while PWill is in constant motion.
bad comparison
I think Ricky Hatton is a good example of a boxer who just plain can't handle the next division up. At junior welterweight he's been a force for years, at welterweight he struggles and has been knocked out.
Paul Williams has shown some pop at lower weights. He's also been outboxed; though we erase that when he knocks the same guy out. When we look at what he's done, though, it has to almost all be taken from his welterweight days.
Where shall we start? His KO of Mitchell? Well, he was on the downside and a shell of the fighter he had been, plus the fight was at 147...so that's not a good launching point for examining Paul's style.
I guess outboxing Margarito. Nice, close win. He fought hard. Props.
Then Quintana beats Paul, but Paul comes back and shows pop at welterweight by KOing him, which he repeats with Kolle- but what does this tell us about what he can do at 160? Nothing.
Sure, he finished Verno Phillips at 154, but that's a different horse entirely.
Winky Wright isn't a true middleweight.
So, where are we getting these assumptions about how Paul Williams is going to fare at 160? Really, that's all they can be at this point. There are questions, and then people have their best guess- but the answers haven't been revealed yet.
Can Paul really take a strong middleweight punch? How about strong middleweight punches all night?
Can Paul hurt real middleweights?
Will Paul's tendency not to fight tall actually hinder him against stockier, stronger men?
Will Paul be able to show the same high workrate when a true, strong puncher is making him pay for it?
We don't know. The jury is still out regarding where he'll fall at 160.
Personally, and I like Paul Williams, I think he should make a home at 154. I'm not sold on his ability to have a lengthy campaign at middleweight.
He is overrated on these forums. Plus those people who think only pressure fighters can give him trouble are wrong. Its all about angles and timing.
Step away from the left hand, jab and come over the top with your own lead.
His head movement is dodgy, leaves himself open when he throws combinations, his offence is almost his defence, with guy like that, you need to time them when they open up. A guy also needs to stay off the ropes against him as well.
Lots of hooks inside too, to body and head, that was the one thing winky got right last week.
Another thing fighters needs to do is not worry about his height, he doesnt fight tall and gives it up in the ring, he also has a habit of letting guys getting inside very easily too, which is why his trainer keeps telling him to 'fight long'.
He's very difficult to beat, because he throws alot of punches so more than often he will get those rounds regardless of wether they land or not. but I would pick mayweather to step to the side and him with right hand leads from angles and the counter left hook is a must also.

ever fighter on here is overrated by nuthuggers
Paul is nice. I just wish he would place his punches a lil better. All the punches being thrown take away some his greatness to me. I also wish he would use his jab more.
He beats pavlik and could possibly beat abraham too. He is not a ww imo, but none of them currently there would be able to dela with him right now. His jab has greatly improved and he is sitting on his punches now. He jsut throws too many at times!
Did the treadstarter say Winky has slower footwork and punches slower than Margarito, wow!,I need some of the drug he's using, most be new or something!!Did they make it in a science lab??!!
You got a good point squab. I'm saying that PWill is a certified badass but there are certain styles he is not built for. One is a high pressure brawler with pop. Paul wants to fight but he ain't gonna win a fight against a guy like Kirkland. To beat Kirkland, you gotta box all 12 and pwill will stop and fight along the way.
Pavlik can also blast him out but his head movement and angles will trouble Kelly. I think Kelly blasts Kirkland out.
AA is also a big problem because he is a strong mofo that has good D, footwork, and offensive arsenal. We know Pwill can be hit.
Forget WW's. They are gonna be tied up for a year and by then he probably won't be able to make 147.
please tell me you are kidding about Kirkland? all Williams has to do is to turn Kirkland constantly and that one dimensional fighter would be sorely outboxed. Sooner or later Kirkland would come undone from the volume of punches laid out there. Cannot believe how overated Kirkland is becoming now.
Winky Wright is a future hall of famer and Margarito isn't-check
Winky Wright has better defense than Margarito-check
Winky Wright is a bigger fighter than Margarito in size and Williams had to move up in weight-Check
Winky Wright is a smarter fighter than Margarito-Check
Williams came from WW to dominate a future Hall of Famer @ middleweight-check
Williams is like the only guy in boxing who could fight in 4 different weight divisions and dominate, has incredible stamina and endorance, great head and body movement, and crazy reach for his size.-check
Is it okay to be excited for a brave fighter with so many great qualities as Paul Williams, he's very confident, but far from cocky, and he's willing to fight the best.
I think Winky would have beaten most guys, he looked sharp for a guy who hadn´t fought in nearly 2 years but he was simply overwhelmed by a guy who doesn´t stop throwing.

Plaster in his gloves?
Not yet he doesn't. I'm following his career though, and it's goin good so far. He's got my vote, i'm just not campaigning for him yet.
Who's the hardest hitter PW faced? Margo? With the plaster wraps? Ya gotta give him propers for finishing that fight though. In fact, PDUB has finished all his fights. Never been knocked down, or knocked out. Ya gotta give him credit for that.

Paul Williams doesn’t get enough credit IMO
He definitely gets credit, but a lot of people are already jumping the gun on him. Let him make his mark first. He's on his way.
