There are fighters who just fight for the money (exc. Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather) Then there are those who just plain out like to fight (exc. Manny Pacquiao, Roberto Duran, Evander Holyfield)
Other then those already listed, name fighters who are in game because they love kicking ass above anything else.
If I had to pick someone maybe the Klits since they both have Ph. D's and could do something else but instead they decide to box
Because they get MILLIONS for fighting for 36min, MAX. I don't know of doctors that can get that that quickly. All about the money.
No one just likes to fight. Even Manny Pacquiao does it for the money. He made 2 bucks for his first fight, and he took it because it was more than he was making before that.
If the money wasn't there, he wouldn't be fighting just for the feeling being punched in the mouth.
It's just not likely that any fighters does it for anything but money. Nothing wrong with that, however. I like money, myself.
I think most if not all boxers at one point do it for the money to support family or something. It they didn't do it for the money they wouldn't negotiate their contracts.
Shane Mosely says ''Money comes and goes but Legacy is Forever''
When Archie Moore fought for the Light Heavyweight Title against Joey Maxim. Maxim was given a 100 Thousand Dollars and Archie was given $800. That how bad Archie Moore wanted that Championship.
That's right.
Moore also liked playing music but he loved fighting the most. Not really fighting but boxing, the science of it. For the majority of his career he fought for next to nothing because he didn't want to deal with the shady people in the business.
There are tons of guys I can think of who enjoyed the scientific aspect, or the one-on-one element of it.
But not many guys I can think of who just loved to beat the shit out of their opponet.
Carlos Monzon comes to mind.
Well surely he loves fighting if he resorted to even beat the shit out of his wife
No such ting. ANYONE who believes a boxer doesn't fight for the money is a fool. EVERY fighter does it for the money seen? Whether dey intentions be righteous or greed. Dey do it for the money seen? PERIOD.
Dey dont fight cause dey just like fighting. Dey do it for the money seen? If dey were paid only change to fight dey wouldn't pursue seen?
Agreed...
Any boxer that turns pro will do it for the money, that his profession (job) and therefore they will always do it for the money.
How many fights have we seen that get broken off due to money issues.

add David Haye to the list of fighters that just like to fight. I heard if not enough ppl order his fight with wlad in the UK, he might not get any money.
"This may seem cruel, but it feels good to hit someone and know you hurt him." - Miguel Cotto
he likes to hit people
but he can't take what he dishes out
James Toney immediately comes to mind. This guy loves to fight. when I think of fighters that were born to fight.. James Toney is the first person I think of.
If someone is Professionally fighting and not caring about money, then chances are their parents raised a moron.
At the end of the day, Boxing is a "Profession" to the fighters. We are solely fans of the sport and enjoy watching grueling brawls, but in reality only a small percentage of fights are like that.
guys that fight for "love" are guys that have never been big time in the first place, or have "fallen off" .....once you get a taste of the $$$, you only want more.

Manny Pac fights for money. Why else would he want a bigger cut than Hatton.
EVERY boxer does it for the MONEY. If they didn't do it for the money, then they would STILL be fighting in Golden Gloves Tourneys and the Olympics....I see where your going with this thread..but the reality is they ALL do it for the money, because at the end of the day, they have to eat and they have families to feed and clothe.
I think what they are trying to say is fight "primarily" for the money. Not all boxers or even athletes do this. Someone like DLH for example has all the money in the world, I think the last few years he's been fighting for his legacy more than anything else.
Money is important, you would be a fool not to include that in your decision making as a pro fighter but some fighters have gotten past the money aspect of it and want to fight for the legacy of their careers.

when ur on the top it will always be for money. u do it because u like it the first years on the sport, after that it's all about the money.
ask the baseball/basketball players with their salary of 20+millions per year.
Agreed!!! When you get to the top its alway the money that you chase, The guys below you are/would be willing to take any fight to get to that status, All boxers do it for the money imo.
James Toney, an interviewer asked him why he was drawn to boxing, James says "I like violence, I just like violence period"
I remember this, absolutely classic quote :lol1:
Don't be fooled though, everyone is in the game for money. Plenty of fighters stay around for ages, fighting long past their prime to attain lost status - which doesn't necessarily mean they like it. Even guys like Toney are fighting on to become a champion again, not out of personal love.
