Back in the days of Jack Johnson, the sportswriters and boxing fans were looking for a great white hope to defeat him and become heavyweight champion.
Now, they have been looking for a great black hope to take away Wladimir Klitschko's titles. First it was Sam Peter (2006-2007), and now the great black hope is David Haye. After Haye, they will be searching for another.
Why couldn't people 100 years ago accept Jack Johnson as champion, and why will they not accept Wladimir Klitschko today? Why do people place so much importance on skin color?
great white hope was a phrase racist white people used...
great black hope is also a phrase racist white people use...
it only exists within the minds of white racists
Absolutely.
So your saying a champion is not a "real" champion unless he is black?
Aaargh - he's not the lineal champion until he either beats the lineal champion or if the lineal title is vacant, until he beats the #2 rated heavyweight. The Ring's (and the lineal) heavyweight championship has been vacant since Lewis retired.

Fantastic post.
This is true because a % of every race be they black white or yellow are purely racist and that will never change this is the nature of man. The only thing we can hope is that the good white, blacks & yellows outcast the bad blacks, whites & yellow.
Me? I don't care, I loved Tyson & I loved Holyfield & I Love the Klitschkos I have no reason to hate any of them.
Only problem is I doubt the world sees this the same way I do going by visual evidence thus far and that's DEEPLY disheartening. People aren't chasing new fighters because they want fresh blood they just hate the Klits and that's my issue.
People want an exciting, explosive heavyweight champion. End of. And they want a single world champion, not a division ruled by two brothers who won't fight each other. You and some other Klitschko fans are the most racist posters on here.
NO, I'm actually anti-racist.
Lennox Lewis was the last Heavyweight undisputed Champion of the world. Lineage broken.

They should make a new one and call it the great black hype. It could star David Haye! :lol1:
Answer this some questions:
What is Wlad career defing fight?
What is vateli career defining fight?
How long has their reign lasted?
What year did Vateli win his belt?
What year did Wlad win his belt?
Lets Look at a list of heavyweight champions and see how long has it been since a black fighter held a belt..
A PERSON AND AFRICAN BACKGROUND HAS NOT GONE LONGER THEN 2-3 YEARS WITHOUT HOLDING A TITLE..!
SO WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT GREAT BLACK HOPE???
BUT CAN WE SAY THAT ABOUT EASTERN EUROPEAN FIGHTERS??

I have a dream...
I dream that some day people will be judged on what they do, and skin color will no longer make any difference. I dream that someday, all racism will come to an end, and we can all live together as brothers and sisters.
Then stop bringing race into every fu.cking converstation. No one has ever said that they don't like the Klitschkos due to their skin colour apart from racist bigots like you. Vitali is actually quite popular, Wlad less so because a lot of people find his style boring and over-cautious.

I dream that someday, all racism will come to an end, and we can all live together as brothers and sisters.yet everything that you say is race related. how about giving it a rest and talk about something a little less boring. or are you just a mindless turd? the whole notion of being 'proud of your race' is effin' retarded which by extension makes you at least mildly retarded.
I don't think I like you very much. :afro:
Who cares about this division anyway???? Hatton is the Great White Hope right now..
How is Hatton a white hope when both white and black people have champions ? There should be no black or white hope.

No one other than some of the Klitschko's supporters give a damn about Haye's skin colour.
No, people want a black heavyweight champion.
If Haye were white, he'd be seen as a joke, and have only a fraction of so many people rooting for him.
That's the truth, but I know people don't want to hear it.
Not unless she's your blood relative.
I mean "brothers and sisters" in the sense that we're all part of the family of human beings.
lol no I'm not that sick.
