I would say it's worth it. Beating Clottey would be great to add to his resume. Of course the belt would make it better, but I think the opponent is the most important thing, and he's got a legitimate top notch fighter in Joshua Clottey. If he can look good beating Clottey, or perhaps knock him out, he will be right at the top once more.
But my point is Clottey isn't the type of fighter to apply pressure. To have a chance at beating Cotto you have to throw a lot of punches and apply loads of pressure, but even then Cotto still knows how to adjust and land solid shots. Clottey's never been in there with a fighter with the overall skills of Cotto. Clottey has a good shell, but you cant compare him to Winky because Winky's been tested in bigger fights and knows how to go on the offensive when in need. From Clottey's last few fights it seems he holds out and waits for mistakes to happen. You CANNOT fight that way against Cotto who's one of the most patient and accurate punchers in the game today and has dealt with both speed fighters and power punchers.
Though you have to give Clottey the chance, I just believe Cotto and even Mosley are a level or 2 above him, and that's not a diss towards Clottey.
Gothcha, when the fight is over, look for me and we will discuss the results like gentlemen.right here on boxing scene!!
No one is underestimating Cotto,he is 1 of the few ww's that will fight anyone!!What my point is,is simply,u should not say anyone is underestimating him because they pick Clottey,Margarito is a cheater,it seems almost certain he cheated against Cotto in that fight, because before Cintron he was never known as a power puncher!!
I have seen a few of Clottey's fights and I compare him a lot to Winky,in the way that he fights, while there are fighters like Cotto who will destroy overmatched opponents,Clottey would fight down to his opponents level and be content just to win!!But his high guard and yes he does come forward behind it and land counterpunches and his overall strenght, combined with his solid jab and monster chin gives any elite WW who fights him fits, the difference between Cotto and Clottey is Cotto is a boxing superstar, while Clottey is highly avoided, props to Cotto for taking the fight, but I think Clottey will grind out a working mans decision against him!!Clottey is not soft like Quintana and Judah,he is a legite ww and has a chance against any ww elite because he too,is elite!!

All of that shit that you typed and you didnt said how Clottey will beat Cotto.
And Clottey is no elite.
Clotteys deficiencies plays right into Cottos strengths, but Cotto deficiencies doesnt play quite into Clotteys StrengthS!!!!!!!!!!
Ok,Clottey is stronger, has a better defence,a better jab and is more durable, that is why he is going to outlast Cotto and win on points!!Plus he is a better counterpuncher, there, are u happy!!Let me say again,I'm also a fan of Cotto, but in this particular fight,I think Clottey takes him,it's just MY oppinion and in no way am I underestimating Cotto!!
But the thing is how many top quality fighters has Clottey faced to where Cotto is going to have a shitload of trouble? When was the last time Clottey KO'd somebody worth mentioning? The sole reason why people are underestimating Cotto is because of how he lost to Margarito. History has shown (recently) that the triangle theory doesn't work most of the time.
Everyone who's sayin Clottey wins hasn't given any legit factor or reasoning to how Clottey would beat Cotto much less KO him.

Nope, without the belt Clottey is high risk, low reward!!Its amazing how people try to say Cotto is being underestimated because they pick Clottey in this fight,Clottey is a bad matchup for any WW superstar,he has the talent to beat any of them,if they choose to fight him,as a fan of the sport, choosing Clottey is not underestimating Cotto,it's just my belief that Clottey has the tools to pull off the upset,it's 1 thing to be a fan and another to be a biased fan!!

Hell yea it is. **** the belts, this shit is about status. If Cotto beats Clottey, he's faced all the top WW's and only lost once. This is the only fight that made sense for him while he's waitin for a SSM rematch. SSM basically has to fight the winner of this one if it don't go to an immediate rematch.
Jennings was also moving. Not even moving, he was literally running. Margs was standing right in front of him, it's not hard to look good against Margarito in the early rounds, his pressure just wears you down in the later rounds.
True Much harder to hit a moving target but i think he'll be tentative in the opening rounds but fall right in to place , plus Clottey isnt a fast starter.

the PLASTER wears you down, yea. this is the same Cotto that stood against Mosley, and looked marvelous. and cotto moved against mosley and margo. against Judah he was also moving, but not out of the way or jabs, he was just creating angles to punch. same with Gomez, just throw good body shots from different angles. good fighter.. hehehe (yeah i'm a cotto fan, so marg's not one of my favorites)
ok true, but look how he started against Margo and look how he started against Jennings. granted different strategies, but conditioning wise, his punches were fast as hell and crisp, moving well etcetera. but yeah.. that plaster breaks u down i guess..
You can't compare the two Jennings was on his bike and Plasterito was coming foward. Cotto is very patient fighter he went in with Jennings took his time, tracked him down and when it was time took him out.
Anyways I think the title made it a whole lot sweeter for Cotto and it was a step in the way to unifying the titles. The IBF is really ****ing up if they make Clottey vacate the belt. It's time to make those belts be worth something again.

It's no secret that the best fighters show up against other great fighters. Cotto did what he had to do against Jennings. The fight pretty much ended when everyone expected, but in general Cotto is a slow starter. By the 3rd round you can see him starting to open up on Jennings.

exactly. but the big problem is: is Cotto back on the level at which he was when stepping in the ring against Margo? dude was BAD... does he still have it? cuz the dude against Jennings wasn't the same man. Close but not the same...

Iagree people are agian under estimating Cotto .

i say so. to show that he still has it. to show that he is still the man and that he has what it takes. IMO he got this fight either way wheather its by knock out or decision. cotto wins.
