Think of some fights that really make you scratch your head and wonder why more attention is not paid to these fights.
I'll start with one that was on my mind.
I was thinking about how good Ike Quartey was... undefeated for a long time... got a bad decision against ODLH, lost again to Vargas... came back after like 5 years, and made Vernon Forrest look terrible, before Vernon had a really good run, proving that Forrest wasn't just shot. Really, only Wright has made Quartey look terrible.
Quartey had a killer jab that would have given almost anyone trouble in his prime, including someone like Mayweather who has always had trouble against a good jab IMO.
Anyway... I was thinking about how people make claims like, "Vargas lost all of his big fights", and that is complete bullshit. He clearly beat Quartey in a really terrific performance, and yet he gets almost no credit for this fight.
Why is that? A convincing win over a prime Quartey is an absolute thing of beauty IMO.
Any other wins come to mind that can hang with Vargas-Quartey?
That's your opinion.
I thought Marquez clearly won the fight. No need to get into it and argue an argument that will go no where.
why not??
this is why the forums were created.... to have discussions.
but your right, everybody has different opinions for this fight.
see everybody craps on this win...but if your going to say castillo was shot...then you must say oscar was shot against pac, thats false confidence there....castillo was number 1 contender jww, still could probably get good wins against most of teh top 10 a jww at the time....hatton def has an underrated win.
Oscar was shot against Pac. He should never have gotten down to 147, its pretty clear. Yeah he made the weight easy but his blood sugar throughout camp was probably very low. He looked like shit.

Quartey was rusty as hell though. He came back after a year or 2 layoff.
john won the fight.
at worst i would of been a draw.l

Zab Judah over the then undisputed WW champion Cory Spinks.
Co-sign. It was the 1 time he came up big when he needed too, but it gets forgotten in the midst of all his disappointments.
I think Juan Manuel Marquez win over Chris John in underrated........
Marquez was robbed. I don't see how John got the decision in that fight.

Roy Jones vs. Thulane Malinga & Thomas Tate
indeed
shit alot of Roys wins were shitted on
Reggie Johnson
Eric Lucas who went on to become a champ after Roy beat him
You... are right.
I thought he had a lot more wins... damn they stepped him up against Cotto early.
Thanks for the correction.
I think he wanted his shot before his hand problems came back. Also remember this was when Cotto was clearly having problems making 140. Malignaggi even said that in the build up to the fight. They were really banking on a weigh drained Cotto showing up. This was Cotto's last fight at 140, he was supposed to fight there one more time but he struggled so hard for this fight so he decided to move up. He still beat Malignaggi though.
I think Hatton's win against castillo is underrated...castillo still had something left...and was ranked number 1 contender for the jww division....and hatton ko'd him
disagree
subsequent fights for Castillo have shown he has little left of the fighter that made him such a force at 135. Add to that other than him fighting Reyes he did nothing to deserve to fight in an elminator with Ngoudjo.
He was 25-1 (5 KOs) :thinkerg:

Mayweathers wins against Carlos Hernandez and Jesus Chavez. We just seen these two veteran warriors lose on the lightweight lightning card in wars against young fighters. They were both top 130 pounders at one time. Mayweather beat them both back to back when they were in their primes.
Mayweathers second win vs Castillo too. People act like that fight never happened and Floyd just deserved to lose the first fight. Floyd knew something was wrong in the first fight so he gave Castillo an immediate rematch to prove who the better man was.
Miguel Cotto's win over Mohammed Abdullaev is underrated. Abdullaev was an olympic gold medalist who should have been undefeated when he faced Cotto but he had a bs loss because he couldn't understand english when the referee talked to him. Cotto boxes beautifully against him and aveneged his loss from the first round in the Olympics.
Chavez especially was impressive to me. Hernandez is pretty good, but he's pretty one-dimensional/limited... Chavez was kind of a beast. His fight against Morales with one arm was just insane. He is a bonified badass.
The Castillo rematch is possibly his best win... although I think Corrales clearly takes the cake in that category.
Abdullaev was a straight killer. His fight against Holiday was INSANE with how much power and killer instinct he had. Cotto dismantling him was a really good win.
Good post.
I watched Hatton's greatest hits last night, and I think it's pretty clear that Hatton does not get nearly the love that he should for the Malignaggi fight.
I'm definitely of the mind that Castillo was totally shot (I can't believe someone in this thread said the rounds before the KO were close and competitive... it was a wipeout for Hatton), and that he shouldn't get that much credit for it, but...
The Malignaggi fight is a different story. Malignaggi's jab was working great, which was the reason that he was 34-1 before the fight. Hatton solved the jab, and showed that his handspeed was at least on par with slick Paulie.
Really good performance by Ricky Hatton.
