I think this is the only way to stop these unprofessional heavyweight fighters from turning up in bad shape. If they fail the test they don't fight, and therefore don't get paid. I bet they'd train a bit harder then.

Its a good idea... try convincing the athletic commissions to enforce it though...
C'mon guys...there are some serious good fighters amongst those with a "slight" overweight..:burnout:

****en ridiculous. babe ruth wasnt in shape and was the home run king of his time. nightmare isnt always in the best of shape but he knocks muthaphuckas out. dont worry about another mans weight, its really not healthy for you. if you dont want to watch the fight, then dont watch it.
No, you are wrong.
You're talking as if boxers are working for companies and are obliged to be in a fit physical state to do their job properly.
This is not the case.
They are not.
Nobody forces you to watch their fights.
Their fitness is at their own discretion. If they are not at an acceptable level of fitness it will effect their own performance, thus; it is of their own concern, not yours.
Next time you try to be logical. Don't.
When did I say they're required to be at a certain fitness level? In case you hadn't noticed, I made the thread in regards to there being a change, forcing heavyweights to take fitness tests. Nobody is forcing me or anybody else to watch them, but I think it's probably in the best interests of the division and the sport if they took their training more seriously. Unlike somebody working for a company, it's the fans who pay these guys their wages, so we're entitled to voice an opinion on the matter. Try a bit harder next time, or maybe just don't bother at all.
Ok, I'll give it one last shot before I go and beat my head off a brick wall. A professional athlete, which is what we're talking about here, is not doing his job to the best of his ability if he's not 100% fit. Can we establish that, or do you need to phone a friend? I haven't said it's compulsory, which is why I made the thread. What I am saying is, and what you seem to not understand, is that these fighters are not doing their jobs to the best of their ability and therefore shouldn't be doing their job. If you are happy to pay for rubbish then that's your choice.

I don't think it's a good idea, it would bring the HW pool down to about 20 people.
i agree with this thread, most heavyweights nowadays look like fat guys they took off the street and said "here some boxing gloves, NOW GO BE A CHAMPION!"
last night i watched eddie chambers and sam peter, i fell asleep around round 7
you moron boxing has no REQUIREMENT. a janitor's job will have all the criteria and regulations clearly stipulated in the contract, i.e. you have to mop the floor such and such amount of times, you take out the trash such and such amount of times PERIOD. if you can do that then you got the job.
a boxer's only contract stipulates that you must get in the ring and not cheat and that's IT. No where in their job description is any sort of weight/height regulation a compulsory stipulation apart from weight restrictions in individual weight classes so you're just a retard who doesn't know what he's talking about.

Would you pay good money to go and see a band in a concert if they just showed up and didn't even try to sing properly and put on a terrible show? These people are professionals who's job it is to keep their body in good condition as it is their main income. The fact that they're full time pros and can't even stay in shape is an utter embarrassment to themselves and the sport.
why not? Boxing is a PROFESSION should a fat janitor not be allowed to work and pay for his kids food?
Are you ****ing kidding me? Boxing is a profession that requires you to be as fit as you possibly can be. Not being as fit as you can be implies that your're not taking your JOB seriously. If a fat janitor can do his job just as well at 290lbs as he can at 180lbs, then there is no problem. If you're in a job that requires you to be fit, and you don't do your job properly because you're not fit, then you are not doing your job properly.
You've just won the award for the dumbest thing I've ever heard on this forum, and that's saying something.
unfortunately that's counterintuitive to business i.e. $$$ so it wouldn't ever fly.
Well it's up to the fans to boycott the fights involving these fighters. Something needs to be done, that's for sure.
