Beibut Shumenov (7-0, 5 KO, age 25) has signed to fight Alejandro Berrio (28-5, 27 KOs, age 32) next.
Berrio was IBF world champion at super middleweight until defeated by Lucian Bute last year.
Shumenov has defeated former world champion Montell Griffin (who has two wins over James Toney and one DQ win over Roy Jones) and former title challenger Epifanio Mendoza (who had a controversial loss to Jeff Lacy last year) in his past two fights.
Shumenov is being matched with good fighters considering his lack of professional experience. Could he be a future champion at light heavyweight?
It's always good to see a little deviation from the norm. Respect to Shumenov for pushing himself from the get go.Even if he takes an L or two along the way he will be very well experienced later in his career.
Berrio is a ridiculous fight for him.
Berrio doesn't go the distance. He acts like he's in prison. It's get or be got.
This will be crazy entertaining.
Props to the Russian, ballsy as hell.
:lol1: at Berrio doesn't go the distance. He acts like he's in prison. It's get or be got.
Shumenov wants to fight for a world title before the end of this year!
At this rate, he's like 2 fights away... jesus.
After Berrio it could be someone like Yusaf Mack (a HUGE test) and then Diaconu or someone like that.
This guy is as badass as they come. Nothing but respect and praise for him.
Shumenov is ****ing insane man...
Him and Povetkin are awesome with their early opposition. Those are the two guys who are taking steps up that make you say, "WOW".
His level of opposition in his first 8 fights is hard to believe.
Shumenov is his own promoter - normally prospects don't go in with dangerous punchers like Mendoza and Berrio until much later.
Interesting that Andre Ward is still fighting weak opposition, despite having a good amateur background AND much more professional experience than Shumenov.

How comes Korobov isn't pushing his career like this guy?
These Eastern European guys with great Amateur experience normally go for good guys from the get-go like Povetkin also.
Very very impressive for an 8th contest. Berrio is a puncher at world level.
