it may just me but, some boxing fans seem to be "in the closet" per se. i say it as they do not let anyone they are indeed tru boxing fans. unless there is someone else who shares the same love for boxing.
today, i noticed that. first, at work in the office, we have this "spotlight" on a certain employee, who gives their personal prefrence, such as favorite food, favorite holyday. these newsletteres always exclude the identity of the person, but state ther personal references. so i found out last week that a person had put boxing as their favorite sport. so today i found out who that person was, a cute billing girl in accounting. surprised me, but also found it intriguing.
later in class, my professor asked the class if anyone was a sport's buff. one guy, very quietly let out, "im only a boxing fan". again, surprised me. it makes me wonder, if there are indeed many more boxing fans than say pay per views lead on?
has anyone else had an encounter ike this?
I talk to my girlfriend all the time about boxing, I know she doesn't give a shit about it but I don't let that get in the way.
She likes Amir Khan after he appeared on that Beat he Celebrity show. lol.
She bought me Joe Calzaghe's greatest hits DVD for Christmas.
Shes like Wladimir Klitschko and says he is a very impressive looking athlete. To which I agreed. I then told her he has no inside game, and she said 'inside what?'
Likewise. She's the only person I can talk to about it in real life who will at least listen. Plus, she's always talking to me about shit I don't care about, like her favorite TV shows, or good books she's read. So I see it as payback.

Speaks volumes about MT though, even middle school kids know Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali
It also speaks volumes about the lack of true star power in today's boxing, post-DLH and Tyson. If all they remember is Tyson and Ali, then it's a pretty sad state of affairs (although I'm sure that quote has been repeated over and over in different forms lately).
Well being mexican i know a lot of people that like boxing so i dont have that much trouble finding other boxings fans. But when i'm hanging out with my closest friends or people that arent mexican i usually dont even bring up that i'm a boxing fan cause when i talk about it theyjust stay quiet not really interested. Most of my close friends are huge football and basketball fans.
I have friends that come over and watch bouts at my house and they are always laughing cause I watch boxing all the time. Every Friday, I watch it and then Saturday too provided it is on. I have like 250 DVDs, most with full broadcasts on them so there is plenty to watch.
When I talk to my friends, they only know big names which is ok with me because they are interested in watching the fights; they always ask me if boxing is on and if they can come over to watch it. People at school of course usually only know Tyson or Ali or Mayweather and such, but at least they know or remember something from the advertisements they see regarding boxing events.
I think that inside, people naturally like seeing a fight...it just does something-something good!
man i'm the opposite, always chatting about the ins and outs of boxing and obscure happenings that only someone who browses this site daily could possibly know about... mostly with my baffled mates who are bored out of their minds
though i managed to convert one friend
This applies to me as well.
Nobody in my real life inner circle follows it, but I always find myself referencing it anyway.
When I kick my brother's ass in a video game, I'll say something like "I Tarver'd that ass" or "That was the worst mismatch since (insert mismatch fight here)".
They never get it though.
I've never met a hardcore boxing fan who knows the shit very well. Just the average fan who occasionally watches big name fights like Oscar de la Hoya and the only true hardcore fan that I know has too much work and no time to follow boxing.
Almost everybody loves that damn MMA. I run to those SOB on a daily basis.

At my old office I uncovered a few boxing fans. A couple of em seen me postin shit on here everyday and started askin me if I ever seen this or that fight. I made some friends real quick. I find myself able to vibe wit anybody I discover is a boxing fan.
i know, i actually fooled one guy into believing that tyson was gonna fight jorge arce. and he said, "oh man that fight is gonna be awesome!!!"...i just laughed.
wow. Then again if you talk confident you can make ppl believe anything. I've convinced ppl that their are left handed baseball bats.

Often I won't even bother with making myself known as a boxing fan, since the only response I'll get is "Ohhh Tyson, maaaaaaaan".
I mean, what? Seriously. It gets old after a while, and it's different people each time. :angry1:

I've had a few people hear me talking about a fight and then say they are boxing fan. they usually go on to ask me why floyd mayweather won't fight kelly pavlik, then I close my eyes and lay face first in my cheese fries
There's so few "real" boxing fans out there that I don't bother bring it up that I'm a boxing fan. The few times I've brought it up, all people have asked me is about "when Oscar or Tyson" are going to fight again.
