for me its got to be Paul Smith Jnr. this guy should be a serious contendor to pavlik. he really has the talent and the tool. he just isnt dedicated
he comes in the ring with conditioning of a regular pub boozer
another guy who has great potential if could be serious is chris areola. if he lost that fat he would be a serious threat
If you're saying this, then you have to say George Foreman too. From 78' to 88'. Sounds kind of dumb looking at it in that light huh?
No. Foreman also wasted his prime.
Floyd Mayweather Jr., how can it not be?
What type of bs is that? You obviously dont recognize talent and how it is utilized in battle.
I unquestionably have to say Zab Judah. Do I really need to explain why?
My thought exactly. PBF hands down.
/End thread.

Ike Ibeabuchi - if only he was able to conquer his personal demons
Zab Judah - if he was only able to conquer his outpour of emotions and be more disciplined in his fights.
These guys are still young but have the potential to become wasted talents if they don't get things together.
Rey Bautista - the Ponce De Leon match was a killer to his confidence. He's still young so he can still rebound if he can conquer the demons of the loss to Ponce De Leon and the recent one to Ruiz.
Cristian Mijares - got KO'd by Darchinyan then lost a controversial SD to Cermeño. He's been deviating from his bread and butter style and has been slugging to much. He should stick to his slick style.
when did chris lose? Till he loses he is not a waste of potential. And, if he lost weight, he could very well not make the heavy weight division. Which, with his style, needs to be.
I might catch shit but I say Joe Calzaghe.
I think he's a good fighter, but wasted his career fighting Welch fisherman and English butlers.
Not to mention what he could have been if had a real trainer.
I think Calzaghe achieved way too much to be classified as being the biggest waste of potential in boxing. Sure, he may have been able to achieve more given what he had, but I don't think you can say his career represents "the biggest waste". That is, unless you think he pretty much could have been the best fighter ever to live.

Who is Paul Smith? dude from the contender?
I thought he'd lost a shit load of weight?
From those that I've seen consistently, it's gotta be Audley. I don't know what he would've looked like with better technique and an ability to actually throw punches, but he surely had some power behind him that could've made him A-Force to be reckoned with...
(d'oh!)
It amazes me that people can still come into this thread and say Floyd Mayweather, but anyway.
IMO the biggest waste of talent in the history of the sport is Salvador Sanchez. Obviously it was tragic circumstances that resulted in this talent being wasted, but regardless, it was still wasted talent. In my opinion, had Sanchez had fought for a full-length career, he would be regarded as one of the top 10 p4p fighters in the sport's history.
Cotto and Kessler ain't wastes of potential because they don't have that much potential. They're both doing the best they can, it's just that they're best isn't very good.
Biggest waste is Jermain Taylor. He should be so much better than he is.
Kessler and Sturm are wastin away. PBF needs to fight the best WW comp while he's still got some prime time left. Tyson fell way short of his overall potential. Same wit Zab.
