who do you think would win if they were both in there prime's at the same time?
I think that it would go all 12 rounds and even though Pavlik is my favorite fighter of all time i believe Calzaghe would take this one.
I'm reading/posting and watching football at the same time, blame it on that. :)
OK. How many goals has Eubank scored tonight?

Eubank got countered lunging in and his gloves touched down, but he wasn't dropped. More a matter of exhaustion showing than anything. The KD in the first-round was Eubank being caught cold, but it looked great.
Yeah, corrected in the other post, MIB.
Right, nah it was more of a touchdown than a knockdown, although he did get the standing 8.

Whoa, your right I almost forgot. One of the ATG Middle-Light Heavy weights in Bernard Hopkins, knocked out two good Welterweights. Also 12 loss Glen Johnson.
Johnson had no losses before Hopkins beat him! To this day, he is the only man to T/KO him.

Hopkins was 43 years, imagine the heat he'd put on him in his prime. Pavlik didn't win one round that is embaressment. Marquez got KO'd against Vazquez in the 2nd fight was he embaressed? What about Cotto against Margarito? Diaz against Marquez?
A one sided 12 round beating is much more embaressing than a KO unless the beating leads to a KO. Pavlik was embaressed, Hopkins stopped Glen Johnson, Tito Trinidad, Oscar guys who never been stopped before and Hopkins did it. At 160 in B-hops prime he would destroy Pavlik worse, he would TKO him so would Calzaghe at 168.
Pavlik has no answers when he's confronted with lateral movement Calzaghe and B-Hop have that in spades. Calzaghe and B-Hop may not even have to drop Pavlik they may just make the ref stop the fight from the beating he's taking.

Anyway, my main point still stands: Calzaghe hit much harder back in the day.

Did he get dropped twice?
lol
Shit! i have the fight obviously havent watched it in a while
I remember the first knockdown in the first round
which looked like a flash knockdown
And yeh im not claiming Eubank was shot or near it cause he put on a great performance against Thompson twice which i also thought he won one of them 2 fights they had...
Yeah, he was down in the first round and I think it was the 10th? I need to watch it again to be sure. Haven't seen that fight (or should I say "war") for a while.

There was two knockdowns, Gully. And sure, Eubank was 31 at the time, but he always had an iron chin and he never lost it even after the Calzaghe fight, he went to Cruiserweight and gave Carl Thompson a good run for his money. He was never knocked down at Cruiser. In fact I had Eubank winning the first Thompson fight. Shame about the second fight being stopped on cuts. Make no mistake, Eubank was one of the toughest mother****ers in the sport!

Lets be fair though sam me breddi Eubank was near the end there
i think the knockdown was a suprise more then anything...

But he slaps the shite outta Pav with ease...
Remember all the threads on here prior to Pav getting skooled by Hopkins?
If joe was batman Pav was the Joker
If joe was superman Pav was lex lugar
He was the one that Joe was scared of etc etc
the man Joe was avoiding etc etc
Then he goes and gets beatdown by Hop
and then guess what?
Pav was overrated or shot thats another good one on here
hehe
Joe would of done damage to Pav maybe permanent Jeff lacy type damage
Naw man... Calzaghe was the one putting iron-chinned Eubank on his ass twice back in the day. Even Benn who fought Eubank twice could never do that and Benn was a monstrous puncher. Eubank himself went on video a few years back to say "People think Joe slaps, but I would say there's steel behind those gloves."

Calzaghe could never match the force of that combo that Taylor hit him with. Ive seen Calzaghe and im a fan of his. To say he doesnt knock out Kelly Pavlik isnt a strech. I agree Calzaghe wins, Calzaghe by a good size UD.

I always thought being embarrassed would mean a knockout. At the very least a knockdown. Calzaghe UD. Joe just cant match the kind of force Taylor put on him in the 2nd round. Even after that Pavlik still got up.
If Hopkins didnt stop him on accumulation over 12 rounds, I dont think Calzaghe could. He wasnt even really close, so it just wont happen.

You're saying Calzaghe never hit as hard as Taylor? Damn. You best believe he did back in the day before the hand injuries plagued him.

Two things that Pavlik carries over nearly all of his opponents are size, strength and power. Calzaghe negates at least two of those three. Quite frankly, Pavlik would look lost in there with him.
Hopkins threw a lot more punches back in 1997. He was a machine dude. He is the only man to ever stop Glen Johnson. In the Pavlik fight Hopkins threw 530 punches. 1997 version was much more relentless.
And I disagree with you on the weight. Hopkins hugely outclasses Pavlik at ANY weight!
Hopkins would have never stopped Pavlik. He threw a ton of punches agaisnt Pavlik when they fought. So that shouldnt have been a problem.
At 160 Pavlik would have had a much better chance agaisnt Hopkins. He wouldnt win but he would be at his best weight and not outsized fighting somebody a full weight class bigger.
I never said Pavlik would beat him. Pavlik is a middleweight. The picked 170 pound Hopkins catch weight was a mistake. He was very outsized. Theirs no doubt in mind Pavlik fights better at middleweight, were he isnt out sized by a full weight class.
