I am on a business trip that happens to land me in Las Vegas for a lay over. I go to place a wager at the Palms and who do I see in front of me Mr. Leonard Ellerbe. I have seen him before numerous times in Vegas for Floyd's fights and in Vegas. He has always been nice to me and a stand up guy. I asked him these questions about Pretty Boy Floyd's career and these are his answers. Remember I of course am not a reporter just a fan talking with him..
Question 1. I heard Floyd is going to come back and fight Marquez at 140 is that true.
Answer. Floyd hasn't fought at 140 in a long time and thats not his weight class anymore. Where did you here that?
My response.. Boxingscene
Question 2. So is he going to fight Marquez at 147 or is there another fight or a tune up fight?
Answer. While laughing Floyd doesn't need any tune up fight. Floyd doesn't need to fight he is retired. What else did you here?
My response.. That he should come out of retirement against the winner of Pac/Hatton or Cotto or Marquez. We all know Floyd is great but how great people need to remember.
His response.. All of these fighters are good fighters that are beating up against each other.
Question 3. So Am I going to see Floyd fight this year?
His response.. Laughter
My conclusion.. Floyd is fighting this year against whoever is the biggest name with the biggest money. Floyd has options his options are in this order
1. Hatton If Hatton beats Pacman there wouldn't be a bigger money fight in the world. Hatton would have immediate respect and a definate top 5 P4P with a win over Pacman. Maybe even Hatton's Golden Boy camp offers Floyd 20 to 25 million to fight in the UK.
2. Marquez. With JMM calling him out and willing to fight at 147 to prove his legacy he must beat Pacman convincingly or beat the unbeatable PBF. Golden Boy wants the fight but can they lure Floyd with 12 million. I don't think so.
3. Pacman. If Pacman beats Hatton. A reach. Pacman is the biggest name in boxing as the active P4P #1 fighter. His fight with Floyd will definately be the best fight within the last 15 years. When was the last time we have seen the top 2 P4P fighters go at it. The biggest problem is not the money its the Arum/Haymon fued. Like Floyd and Pacman these 2 are the the biggest influence in the sport along with Golden Boy.
4. Mosley. If Sugar Shane secures a match with Cotto and beats him. Sugar Shanes stock goes through the roof. An aging fighter beating the best in his division would give Shane the Bernardisque role. This fight can happen if the Cotto fight can get made and Mosley wins. The money will be available and would give us a fight we have waited for 4 the last 8 years.
well, since you stated in your original post that you're not a reporter, you get a pass
all im sayin is that ellerbee probably doesnt differentiate between forum threads and news releases...
as for the title, i thought ellerbee had given you something a little bit more concrete than a laugh to think that marquez vs floyd would happen
VINDICATION:headbang:
I am glad this fight is happening. After JMM gets KTFO we shouldn't hear about him untill he fights Pacman in early 2010 for 2nd place.
Floyd fighting JMM at 147, making him jump two whole weight classes after he just jumped one, is a complete joke. And if Floyd actually goes through with this, so is he.
How in the hell do you give Floyd credit for winning a title at 154 and then make excuses for him not fighting anyone at 147 (only 17 pounds above the weight he turned pro at over 12 years ago,) with a pulse?
Happy retirement Mayweather, you won't be missed.
He is missed allready. Can't you see that every other thread is Mayweather related. And His picture is still on the main page.

140 or no challenge
You guys do realize that JMM was moving up to JrWW, right?
And when he moves up to JrWW, he will be fighting fighters that aren't actually JrWW/140 pound fighters by Fight-Time, right?
Like Pac who weighed in at 147 pounds against Diaz {LW}and is expected to weigh in at 147+ by fight-time against Hatton. And Hatton who weighs in at 149+ by fight-time.
All these guys are just good at pissing out lots of water weight and rehydrating.
And Floyd I guess is just to lazy to take a pill and drain his body of fluids and doesn't care for the I.V. treatment to put those fluids back in. Floyd ducks the I.V. treatment.
How about fighting the fighter and not the scales. What good is it if you have a sick man on the scales and he can't fight by fight-time?
Freddie Roach talked about having a "catch-weight" for Floyd if he were to fight Pac...why? because he wanted to "take something out of him if he could; make him work for it."
Like I said before, maybe it will be easier to find a JrWW that weighs in at 149 by fight-time instead of going through the trouble with JMM. This way, we can skip the bullshit charade of the trying to make weight on the scales and the fighters can just pop on the scales to make weight at 147/WW. Now you have two healthy fighters without the risk of showing up "flat" because they couldn't rehydrate in time.
No I expect the fight wont get made because of the disagreement on weight.
Thats also what I expect to happen here till Floyd learns to comprimise. 4 years ago we would never have dreamed of this fight ever taking place so unlikely fights like JMM vs Floyd sometimes requires a little bit of a comprimise on both parts otherwise the fight just doesn't get made and the only ones who lose are the fans.
Seriously wouldn't you rather see an even match up? It boggles my mind that Boxing fans argue against their own intrest so often it's no wonder the sports popularity is in the crapper.
JMM is not in the position to make demands to the great Floyd Mayweather. As a boxing fan I would rather watch fighters that fight more often. So a Floyd vs JMM fight at 147 is better than a non Floyd/JMM fighting each other.
Manny had the advantage in the De La Hoya:bs2: fight cuz Oscar gave it to him. JMM called Floyd out. If Floyd calls out Kelly Pavlik do you expect Pavlik to come down to 154?

Why should JMM fight at 147 when he has never fought at 140? Why should he give all the advantages to floyd? because he called him out? The weight for the manny-oscar match up was also an clear advantage for manny where the weight advantage in this fight is a clear advantage for floyd.
Fuk that!! JMM is showing balls moving to 140 so he could fight a guy who has fought as high as JR Middle. JMM is doing his part to make the fight happen and so should floyd. It's funny how you floyd fans feel that he should never have to work for anything in his boxing career and everything should just be handed to him. It's not like both fighter have other options in their careers so as far as 'm concerned JMM has already met floyd half way. Anything else and JMM would just be letting floyd take advantage of Juan Manuel's temendous courage.

Why should Floyd come down considiring he has been at 147 since the Gatti fight.

If the fight is at 140 i think it's floyd biggest challange to date but if it's at 147 then floyd is content being a snake oil salesman as usual.
Why should Floyd come down considiring he has been at 147 since the Gatti fight. Manny went up and fought De La Hoya and we all thought Manny will get humiliated. Didn't happen. When JMM tries to go up and fight Floyd we bash on Floyd. After Floyd beats JMM, Pacman, and Cotto or Mosley will you give him credit?
So who would you rather him fight? I would love to see him go at it against Cotto personally but I wish he would stay active. Fighting JMM isn't so bad. I would rather him fight JMM than Luis Collazo but thats just my opinion.

Like I always say Gayweather is scared shitless to fight a real welterweight and never will.

If Floyd fights Manny or JMM at 147 that is bull... Floyd can make 140 for sure.
So Manny coming up to fight De La Hoya at 147 was bull. Why the F@ck does Oscar get that pass. What is a bigger advantage Oscar/Pacman at 147 or JMM/Mayweather at 147. If Floyd goes down in weight and murders the competition at 140 hater will say he ran from 147 if he stays at 147 hater are going to say he is picking on smaller opposition. IF........Floyd fights again enjoy it at any weight. JMM is at the top of his game now and if his mouth calls out Floyd why are we mad that Floyd is going to shut it for him.
So if Hopkins called out Klitschko, Vitali would get credit because Bernard is P4P #3 would he?
People are misinterpreting the P4P rankings. Marquez was rocked by a light-punching Diaz at 135lbs. He's never fought above that weight, yet now it's fair to fight one of the most skilled fighters of our generation because he called him out/ranked #2 on P4P lists.
Mayweather would get credit fighting Pacman at 140 and any of the top welters.
No but why does Bernard get credit for beating Tito, De La Hoya, Wright, Pavlik. They where all good to great fighters close to the top of there game. The risk was there but all of the fighters moved up to fight him. Bhop gets credit for taking on a risk like Adamek more than a victory over Pavlik in my book.
If that is the case JMM should shit his mouth and go after who at 135? He beat Juan Diaz, Cassamayor, lost and drawed to Pacquiao, Nate Cambell is at 140. There is nothing else to prove at 135 for JMM.
What makes anyone think that if Floyd got down to 140 that he couldn't beat Pacman, JMM, Bradley, Holt, Witter?
Floyd is the biggest name in boxing now and he should do what he wants. I just hope its a fight with JMM this year and Pacman at the end of the year.
Id love to see Marquez Mayweather deemed as a warm-up for Floyd or just in general! It could spell either great things for floyd in a great win or a bad lose or a draw! He wil win but either way it sets him up for some good action and somehow i think Mosely cott will fight soon and Floyd would and should settle for Marquez~
