I'm not really sure how people say he's blown up. He still retains most of his speed and can still maul people around. He mauled Collazo around with his size and footspeed. He still pressed that size advantage he has at 147.
However, it's Mayweather's and Collazo's style that gave Ricky problems. Collazo was very good on his legs and throwing short hooks. Against Mayweather, Hatton had even more of a problem. He couldn't push Mayweather as much around because he's very slippery and tricky.
That being said, I'd still pick Hatton over at least the bottom welters like Collazo again, Berto, Cintron, Judah, and Quintana. I'd give him a good shot at really being close with Clottey.
I think Cotto, Shane, and even Marg would be to much for him though. What I don't believe is Hatton's "blowing up" at 147 is the reason why he lost against Mayweather and had huge trouble against Collazo at times.
edit: Forgot to say, he's small for a welterweight, but he didn't blow up like the general consensus.
I agree with you. I mean, he fought a guy that gives EVERYBODY trouble in Collazo, than he fought Mayweather. That doesn't mean he's crap at the weight.
I however, wouldn't favor him over all the Welters you would. I think Quintana would definitely beat him. Clottey too. I just don't think Ricky's all that good, regardless of weight. He's a very good professional, I just don't think he's elite.
I agree with everything you said here. No hate.
i can maybe buy all of this ... the differnece being now he is on the back end of prime with lifestyle problems so i think what would be the issue now is chin ... its def not as solid as it once was ...
Hatton doesnt have any skill to trouble anyone at 147, At 140 he uses his physical advantages but at 147 who is he going to maul,Hug,Wrestle etc
Did you watch Collazo-Hatton besides round 12? He still mauled Collazo around when he got close inside. I thought Hatton won the fight 115-112 based off the punches he landed on the inside and how he was able to bully Collazo around. Collazo just gave him major problems in rounds 5, 6, 7, and 12. Collazo also won round 2 on my card due to clean punching. Still, Hatton was able to push Collazo and bang pretty much anywhere he wanted when he got inside.
Hatton could do that for a lot of the welters like Judah, Berto, and the others I listed. Even Cintron, who folds under pressure and would complain about everything Hatton does. The cloest fight might be Quintana, but Quintana can't take it to the body imo. Hatton would KO him.
He cant possibly beat Berto because they're the same height more or less, But i dont see him beating Quintana who is a southpaw and hatton has too much troubles with southpaws.
Because Hatton can't beat someone his own height???? What? That doesn't even make sense. Collazo did a lot better against Berto then he did Hatton. I realize that the triangle theory isn't basis for it, but Hatton would still connect a lot. Berto's defense is terrible.
Also Quintana would give him a close fight, but Quintana would break down after the body pressure like he did Cotto. Hatton's a pretty good body puncher.
He'll beat Berto, as for Quintana not sure...its possible.

I was saying something similar to this the other day, although not as in-depth. 147 wasn't the problem for Hatton. That's bullshit. The opponents were the cause of Hatton's lackluster performances.
Mayweather -- big difference in skill level between him and Hatton.
Collazo -- southpaw.
Both gave Hatton problems. This is why I also think Pacquiao will give Hatton problems. He has superior skills, plus he is a very fast southpaw.

agreed i mean collazo got knocked down in the first round thier was no arguement that it was flush and snapy but hatton fits in at light welter like salt fits to pepper
Hatton's gameplan relies alot on physical advantages he doesnt have at 147. At 147 he less likely to be able to bully guys around and is more likely to get into a boxing match, which is where the problems lie.
