The fight this weekend between Marquez And Diaz was the epitomy of boxing!!! Bloody, Brutal, unforgiving but still an art more beautiful than the Mona Lisa!( in my opinion). And now i just got done watching Holyfield vs. Qawi in '86.... WOW what great fight!!! So my question is what fighters past or present (mix n match) do u think if matched up would create these "Works of Art?" Also tell me which fight was your all time favorite? Mine hmmm..... Gotta go with the first gatti vs. ward.
1947 Ezzard Charles vs. James Toney
1970 Jose Napoles vs. 1980 Roberto Duran (am I the only one who thinks about this one?)
Charles Burley vs. 1950 Ray Robinson
1982 Aaron Pryor vs. 2005 Floyd Mayweather Jr.
have a couple problems choosing the best years for Toney and Burley for different reasons. Toney's best year might be when he did nunn-johnson-mccallum, but he was smaller than Charles, and Burley I don't know enough about him t pick the right year.
Vargas-Quartey was a fight that was fought both skillfully and brutally. Same wit MAB-EM 3. Pac-EM I had a gr8 mix of boxing skill and brutality.
I woulda liked to see Hagler-Bhop at MW. Cotto-Clottey is on the horizon and looks like a sweet fight. SSM-JCC at 135 woulda been wicked to watch.
as far as fights that have already happened...james toney vs michael nunn.
ebb and flow battle, 2 distinctive styles, brutal ending, yet the fight was still fought at such a high skill level till the very end...it never degraded into a sloppy, gatti-ward-like duel.
now for a fantasy matchup, i'll be the first, but i'm sure not the last to mention mosley vs duran @ 135.
Salvador Sanchez vs Manny Pacquiao 126lbs
too many to name..Jose Luis Castillo-Chico Corrales is the first one that popped up..(maybe cuz I recently watched it again!..lol)
