There is no way in hell that he should not have gotten DQ'd against Echols for that loaded up rabbit punch in the rematch...
That's just nuts man, I can't believe Hopkins wasn't worried about accidentally killing him with that shot.
I dont know about him being DQed, since that was a pretty dirty fight to begin with.
but I find it pretty funny that his KO loss to Mills Lane is considered a 'title defence'. if you didnt include that fight, he would only have 19 title defences of the IBF belt.
theres a difference between pushed and ko'd.f** the haters b-hop is a legend!
Literally saying anything bad against a fighter makes me a hater does it?
Okay... that rabbit punch was strategic and Hopkins was robbed of a KO from it.
Better?
Are you serious? You thought that was a push?!? Is this guy ****ing serious?
To everyone who mentioned the body slam (except that cunt Fulcrum, I'll get to him in a second), please keep in mind that the rabbit punch happened rounds before the body slam, so it's hard to use that as a reason why the referee didn't take serious action against Hopkins.
We hear a lot about Joe Calzaghe's title defenses, but many of Hopkin's opponents were no better.
As a lot of people have said, everything that I have heard is that Echols was a really good prospect/contender who was ruined by Hopkins. I've seen his two battles with Echols, and man, he really beat the hell out of him, completely brutalizaed him.
Echols was even dirtier in those fights so what's your point dumb ****?
Eat a dick Fulcrum. Is your argument that the referee looked into the ****ing future and saw the body slam before it happened? If not, then I don't know what you are going for here. It was the first thing that was seriously dirty in the fight and the referee looked over it like it was nothing.
The day a ****ing idiot terrible poster like you talks down to me... this forum is unreal. How is it that the morons who know nothing about the sport talk the hardest and make the boldest claims?

Echols was a top level fighter in his day. He would probably be in Joe's top 5 wins.
Oh and Hopkins defenses are around the same level of Joe's, with Hopkins having the better people. Hopkins also has a WAY better wins in the later part of his career.
pfffffft, I've seen way worse than that and they never get DQ'd. At most a point deduction. Besides, Echols was fighting crazy dirty too. Good performance by bhop regardless, fun fight to watch.
so true....:fing02:

Anyone have a clip of the punch? I know Hop hit Echols while Echols was trying to complain to the ref but that's not what you're talking about right?
The punch wasn't that bad really, I think he intentional fell to the floor to get points taken off or to get a DQ win.
Elchols body slam later in the fight was alot worse imo.

Bernard's resume still shitz on Joe's. I know it hurts you to know that...lol

Yeah except Echols knocked Charles Brewer out in three rounds and that's among Joe's five best wins IMO. Worse 6-7. Echols isn't that high on Hopkins' list.
Furthermore, Antwun Echols wasn't a bad fighter...at least before Hops took a few years off his career. BOTH of those fights are just brilliant and I encourage all boxing fans to watch them. Hopkins boxed so beautifully in the first fight and showed incredible skill. Then in the rematch got down and dirty and straight up out-manned a rugged banger in Echols. So rugged he moved to 168 and damaged Brewer with every punch that landed. I miss those Executioner days.

the fight was a mess.....both dudes were foulin'!
I thought it really wasn't that big of a deal.
Echols picking up and throwing Hopkins through the ropes though... Atleast Hopkins refused to take the DQ win and finished the fight.
