I decided to watch this fight again because there has been a lot of talk about Marquez accomplishments and best win. I have always thought Barerra won the fight but i had no problem with Marquez getting decision because there was so many close rounds. Still i thought Barrera's jab and left hook were vintage Barrera and he controlled the fight with them. he beat marquez to the punch most of the night and everytime marquez landed a nice shot, barrera always countered with a good shot of his own. he just controlled the pace of the fight! the biggest complaint of the fight was what the hell was Nady ****in doing when he didnt score the KD in the 7th??? that was a beautiful right hand by barrera that knocked marquez down!!!! it went from being a 9-9 rd to a 10-8 rd because of the bullshit 1pt deduction aginst barrera. i had the fight 4 rounds to 2 for barrera up to that point. but because of what happened it turned the fight even after 7. if the ref had done his job my final scorecard woould have been 115-112 Barrera. But since you have to follow the deduction and lack of KD counted then my final scorecard was barrera 114-113. what were your scorecards for that fight??? and was this fight really Marquez best win of his career??
Marquez swells easily buddy. Barrera was still able to land punches, especially in the earlier half of the part, but he was overwhelmed. In rounds 8 and 12, he still missed a good majority of the round and Marquez threw combinations.
Barrera might have been "rolling with the punches" like Steward said, but Marquez was still following up with punches that were hitting Barrera.

i watched it twice and gave it both times to barrera, cant remember now my scores or which rounds i gave to who. and i like jmm as much as i like mab, impartial to any.

This is what I had I just watched it again.
Difference I think is 7th round marquez was clearly dominating that round until barreras knockdown that the ref didn’t acknowledge but I scored the knocked down so I gave barrera that round 10-9 usually you get a 10-8 but marquez dominated that round so I only gave barrera a 10-9 but I took away a point because of the illegal blow when marquez was down so I think marquez won barley but I probably would’ve said a draw because without that illegal blow there were pretty even that’s my take so yup.
MAB won in my opinion. Every punch JMM landed, MAB answered in return, MAB controlled the pace PLUS they should have counted the KD
Can you not score JMM fights? Did you have the Pacquiao fights a shutout for Pacquiao? How the hell did you have the fight for John and Barrera? :lol1:
JMM landed multiple punches for every punch MAB landed. Barrera countered in between at times, but he did not win the rounds doing so.

2. If we scored it on knockdowns, Terdsack Jandeng would have beaten Steven Luevano.

However though i gave Marquez the 10-8 round because the one has to follow the refs decision and i still had barrera winning by a point. Barrera was not "missing" his shots in round 8, his short left hooks and right hands to the body were clearly landing including some nice face shots that swelled up Marquez like crazy well combined with earlier damage in the fight. Round 12 Barrera was landing great counter power shots and beating marquez to the punch. Also how was Marquez landing more when basically it was even shots landed according to compubox?? Marquez clearly had more dominant rounds than barrera in the rounds he did win but Barrera controlled the fight with his left and great countering. Barrera won that fight in a close one!

Anyway, now to your points:
1. Barrera was only able to land one or two nice little short left hooks in round 8. The right hands that he landed were not as clean as Marquez's were for that round. Marquez won the round. Barrera's shots came close to landing, but they didn't.
2. Barrera might have been beating Marquez to the punch, which I disagree with because he found openings after Marquez was letting go. It wasn't due to speed, it was Barrera's timing.
That timing however, was not enough to win the round. Marquez lands many shots that rock Barrera's head and Marquez lands great left hooks and right hands. Barrera does not throw and land enough. He just disrupts Marquez sometimes, but Barrera does not win the round nor is it that close. Marquez clearly wins round 12.
3. Overall, Marquez won the fight. And by wide margins too. Barrera was competitive, but he did not do enough nor did he land enough. Marquez's face might look like a train wreck, but Barrera used his head to smear and he hit in the clinch which also caused swelling. This was not enough to win rounds however.

thats how i had it..it was a knockdown but he hit him when he was down so it should of been 1 extra point for barrera...1 knockdown doesn't equal a win..marquez won

Another thing about round 8. You said he was very precise, but a lot of Barrera's shot missed. Not wide lunging misses, but they didn't hit the mark either. Barrera was competitive in this fight where he was still able to hang, but he has no legit argument in beating Marquez. None.

My card and this is what it should be. Maybe round 1 could be scored for Barrera, but anything after round 6 scored for Barrera is VERY stretching. HBO's call on this is the worst I've heard bar none.
