According to Dan's chat. Wouldn't it be awesome if the fight was April 18th? Adamek would be absolutely even more awesome if he kept making defenses with only 1 month off against solid competition.
I think Hopkins beats him easy, but it's an interesting fight to see how Hopkins does against the man in the crusierweight division. I'd like him to fight Dawson, but I'll be happy if Hopkins fights Adamek because it's his chance to be a 3 division champ.
Yeah he was briefly "the man" and champ at LHW after schooling Tarver, but in my opinion he went too long without defending it at 175 so the position of overall champ/"the man" was sort of vacated at 175 and now it is pretty unclear with it looks like Dawson going to eventually be the man there after some more time passes.
With 175 sort of wishy washy, maybe that is why he wants the 190-200 division, as Adamek is pretty much established as the champ/the man at cruiser. He would get more credit beating Adamek than Dawson
Yeah there's a certain validity to that. A win over him has different benefits particularly resume wise, than Dawson.
He seems to like taking on the main Ring champ. There would be a certain amount of emptiness beating Dawson, he'd still be the #1 current LHW and we'd still know he wasn't a matter of weeks ago, as he lost to Joe. He'd depend on Dawson doing a lot of good things in the future which is likely but still.
This one on it's own merit - going to a new division significantly higher in weight, and beating the top man, is plain impressive. I mean it is impressive he was a great champ at 160, 175, and 200 would be fab and further underline his generic class and skill in the game. He has a slightly inferiority complex with RJJ imo too, so becoming a champ in another division may lend itself to a thinking of improving his resume in such a way.
The imperative word there being "was". I don't much dispute anything but the fact the post I was replying to made out like Hopkins went through MW and LHW as the unbeaten top man - and as the best there was at that time. Furthermore it was worded as if even now looking back, he was the man to beat in said divisions. Well he was, beaten. Thus not, the man, I'm afraid.
In terms of achievements hell yeah. But he stopped being the man at MW when Taylor beat him, and at LHW when Calzaghe beat him.
Plus he has only actually fought at LHW twice. Wright and Pavlik were catch weights and if anything closer to SMW than LHW.

It's annoying that he'd fight Adamek and not Dawson.
Dawson would likely decision Hopkins, hes got fast hands and Hops lost to calzaghe and taylor, so likely he would loose a decision to Dawson. He must see something in Adamek that leads him to think he can win.
He meant Bernard Hopkins was the man at 160. Hence the 20 title defenses. He was 100% the man though when he beat Trinidad.
He's won three fights at Light Heavy. He was the man by beating Tarver, who was the best in the division. That made him the man in the division. Or close to, if you consider Erdei the man. Either way he was the best Light Heavyweight in the world until Calzaghe beat him (even though some people, myself included, thought Hopkins won)
Adamek has had 3 quality wins at cruiserweight to make up getting blown out by Dawson. Of course I'd rather him fight Dawson, but it's still a quality win and it's him becoming a champ in a different weight class.
Crusier is also pretty deep imo. They may not be A fighters (Adamek is very close though. Same with Cunningham), but you also have the rest of the guys being B-B+ people who make for an interesting division.

adamek looked like shit til he noticed banks couldt take body shots.....
banks aint that great either and his chin had already been proven shaky........cunningham takes adamek in a rematch i think....bhop would school the shit outta adamek....adamek is timid as shit until he lands something significant.......bitchnard with the track shoes on wont give him that kind of chance.......by the 6th round, adamek would be discouraged as shit and maybe even get TKO'ed late...
its sickening to me to think bhop would get so much credit to beat a fighter who's only immpressive assets are power-chin
Are you kidding me? I like Hopkins and want another good win for him.
But he was beaten at 160 by Taylor meaning he was no longer left as 'the man'. He also can't even get to 160 now.

He won one fight at LHW, and then lost his next so he was not the man there. He's hardly 'the man' now as the real man literally just retired so it's a technicality more than anything, and he's not even beaten the 3rd best LHW.

If he won at 200, it would again be one win over the current top man whom was beaten by Dawson, and the previous man at CW recently unified and left, it's hardly deep.
Sorry to sound so negative as I would respect a win for Hokins at CW massively, but keep it in context.

i think this is a great fight for bhop ... i prob woulda liked to see him fight chad instead, but this fight earns him more points legacy wise imo. to be the man at 160 175 and 200 would be really impressive.

Theres the actual quote from Rafael.
Sancho, Ca: Dan, any bat phone news that you got during your stay in H-town???
Dan Rafael: Well, not on the Bat Phone or Bat Email or Bat Text. But I did spend some time with Bernard Hopkins last night and he told me he wants to fight Adamek if he wins tonight. He likes the idea of winning the Ring title at cruiserweight.
hopkins wins easily if they met at 175, but if he wants another belt it would have to be at 185, and hopkins might be too fatigued and slow at this point and this age. hopkins is still the man if he loses to
It's moreso for Adamek though because he's in one of the least regarded divisions in the sport where paydays like these (and the chance to fight a legend) will never really emerge at all.
Playboy, it's Jim Lampley.
I know you love this fight.
Money makes any fight happen, reason why I said, don't be surprised if Pavlik vs Tito happens

How great would it be to see Bernard absolutely RUIN Valuev? Just completely embarrass him. Especially if he was throwing wind-ups the entire fight.
Hopkins could beat Valuev even, if he were 175lbs.
3 Division Champ, even better! WHY NOT?!
And it really works out for both of them, B-Hop would get his 3rd Division Title and Adamek will get the biggest payday of his career.

I too think he would beat Adamek comfortably. Adamek is not a big CW either.
